University of California registered nurses walked picket lines Tuesday, May 8, and Wednesday, May 9, in a sympathy strike with other union co-workers at the Universityās five major medical centers and 10 student health centers. This sympathy strike was called in solidarity with members of AFSCME Local 3299, who struck over their collective bargaining contract dispute with the UC administration. A third union, University Professional & Technical Employees/CWA members at UC facilities also participated in the sympathy strike.
This is the first time UC nurses have walked a picket line. A 98% majority vote by RNs authorized this historic sympathy strike.

Fifty union workers committing civil disobedience were arrested outside the NFL Headquarters in Manhattan after thousands of unionized construction workers held a rally on August 22, 2018 to call on the NFL to ask Steve Ross, Related Companies Chairman/Founder and owner of the Miami Dolphins, to step down from the NFLās Social & Racial Justice Committee. IBEW 569 members working for National Electric Works are working on āEast Tower Substation replacementā at Sharp Grossmont Hospital, a 16 month project. Workers on the project are Foreman Travis Krahel, JW Mark Hooper, JW Justin Miller, JW Jason Bowler(not pictured) and Apprentice Jose Nieto Predomo. The project is to renovate and replace an electric room from 1970ās, which provides Normal and Emergency power to the 1970ās East Tower addition to the hospital. Which includes providing power to patient rooms, Operating Rooms, surgical equipment sterilization and much more.
