A marriage in Afghanistan: Mohammed, of 40 years and Ghulam, 11 years. The winning photo of the prize "the photo of the Year", promoted by the German Committee of UNICEF, calls the attention on a world-wide problem: million girls are married or live in pair being still minor.

APAG are printing a catalogue of 60 international artists in conjunction with UNICEF. The brief was to create a piece of work around the theme of childhood and UNICEF's key values... this is my submission!

It's intended to illustrate the potential within all children, in all situations, all of the time, everywhere. Not all children are given the best start in life. UNICEF help ensure those less privileged children are offered the same chance to develop their potential, regardless of their situation.

The numerous columns of text on the buildings describe everything from child poverty and hunger, to childhood diseases, childrens rights and the goals of UNICEF.

:-)

Took a quick de-tour to the UNICEF offices in Copenhagen, just to realise that you need some height to fully capture the 8-arm structure of the building. This is from across Nordhavn. To get a full view of the structure you would need to;

a: buy a drone

b: get onboard the cruising ship to Oslo (starts just behind the office building)

c: get an invitation to "Danish Standard" located in a 10 storey buildings just behind where this shot was taken.

Haven't made my choice yet, stay tuned for more during the summer...

Nyatayin two boys and two girls. One child still missing. Her occupation is farming. When she heard the gunfire, she was holding two kids (one year old daughter Nyakoch Gatdet and 6 year old son Tut Gatdet. Two of them escaped with her while two of them were taken. “If I had four hands, I would have saved all four of my children, she says. “My nine year old daughter has returned while my four year old son hasn’t. I feel sad. I have seen my husband being killed along with a dozen other men. I prayed for my children’s return- prayer was my only weapon.”

“There is no one to go to- everyone in the community is affected so nobody will see my problem as a special case. At first it was a hearsay that some children have returned. But then we were informed through the kebele officials to come and identify the children- I was praying that my children would be part of the returnee. I spotted by daughter among many children standing in a circle and I praise the lord immediately. I also thanked the government for taking action. Now am praying for my son’s return and still living in the presidential guest house for two weeks. I am scared to go back to my village just in case the rebels come back. But I know that the government is doing everything possible to secure our area and I feel relieved. I hope all my children get the proper education and support me when they grow up.” © UNICEF Ethiopia/2016/Meklit Mersha

Tok Bel, equity and quality of education process owner, Bureau of Education, Lare woreda, Gambella Region.

“Parents and children need to understand the value of education. When children receive education, their chance of going into conflict in their community is minimal. Out of school children are more prone to involve in conflict situations. Even in the recent Murle attack, most lives that were saved were those of children who were attending school when the incident happened,” explained Tok Bel.

Tok also explained that the education system needs to address the issue of equality and equity by which all tribes including minority groups get access to education closer to their homes. “Whenever there is the issue of equity, whenever we are not able to fulfill the demands to equally serve all communities, conflict and clashes in these communities is inevitable.” © UNICEF Ethiopia/2016/Meklit Mersha

We decided to do just one Item per Designer as we want as most designers as possible to have all kind of different releases for the customers to raise also the interest for visiting the Mainstore and to keep the stresslevel low for you as we don´t have long time to prepare everything. So please content a actual Landmark from your store in your Item.

~ Commercial pics and NCs will be sended to the Blogger as soon as they are ready and announce every Designer who is willing to help us to support them as well in their Blog.

~ Does it have to be a New designed Item? No it doesn´t need to be as we have just few days to prepare everything but it would be great to have something more ‘new’ of your collection and to hide it in the Store as long the Event is running or to sell it a bit lower in prize then in the mainstore. That we let in your hands as we think you are all very experienced in Charity Events and their organisation.

~ If there is any interest or open questions please contact Falbala Fairey (MissV Germany 2012 & Miss Avatar World 2011) who will manage the Designer and Blogger in this Event.
