In 1987, a Roman thermal baths from the 4th century was discovered during construction work deep beneath the Trier cattle market. This impressive archaeological find has since been surrounded by a protective glass building, planned by the architect Oswald M. Ungers. The building, which presents modern archaeological work and Trier's eventful city history as a showcase, is also used for exhibitions.

Does anybody really know what time it is?

Oswald Mathias Ungers was born in Kaisersesch in the Eifel region. From 1947 to 1950 he studied architecture at the University of Karlsruhe under Egon Eiermann. He set up an architectural practice in Cologne in 1950, and opened offices in Berlin in 1964, Frankfurt in 1974 and Karlsruhe in 1983.

 

He was a professor at the Technical University of Berlin from 1963 to 1967 and served as the dean of the faculty of architecture from 1965 to 1967. In 1968 he moved to the United States, where he became the chair of the department of architecture at Cornell University from 1969 to 1975. In 1971 he became a member of the American Institute of Architects. He was also a visiting professor at Harvard University (1973 and 1978) and the University of California, Los Angeles (1974/75). He returned to Germany in 1976, becoming a visiting professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (1979/80) and a full professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (1986).

Sembla que les esglesies dedicades a Sant Cugat tenen certa vinculació amb el millor del romanic català. Aquesta NO és Sant Cugat del Vallès, pero tot i ser molt més petita, es una de les joies (desconegudes) del romanic a Catalunya.

 

Es tracta de Sant Cugat del Racó, a ponent de Navàs, al Bages. Inicialment coneguda com a Sant Cugat de Castelladrall o Sant Cugat Salou (perquè era un alou o establiment del monestir de Ripoll). No fou coneguda com "del Racó" fins al s. XVII.

 

Tot i estar només envoltada per dues o tres cases, és un temple espectacular, on clarament Ripoll hi invertí força. L'esglesia actual (la 2ª documentada) data del s. XI, en estil romanic llombard. Té planta de creu grega amb tres absides a llevant (un va desapareixer al s. XVII per fer-hi la sagristia), campanar de cadireta i un magnific cimbori cilindric, únic a Catalunya. La porta és d'època gòtica.

This is Sant Cugat del Racó, west of Navàs, in central Catalonia. Initially known as Sant Cugat de Castelladrall or Sant Cugat Salou (because it was an "alou" or establishment of the monastery of Ripoll). It was not known as "del Racó" until the XVII Century.

 

Despite being surrounded by only two or three houses among the countryside, it is a spectacular temple, in which Ripoll clearly invested a lot. The current church (the 2nd documented) dates from the XI Century, in Lombard Romanesque style. It has a Greek cross plan with three apses to the east (one disappeared in the 17th century to make way for the sacristy), a steeple bell tower and a magnificent cylindrical dome, unique in Catalonia (all the others of this era are polygonal. The door is from the Gothic period.

A jogász végzettségű, de egyébként kovácsmester felmenőkkel rendelkező megbízó bérházak építésével szerzett nagy vagyont. A romantikus stílusú, bizánci és mór elemeket is felvonultató épület első emeletén hét kis erkélyt láthatunk, amelyet egyenként két-két griffmadár támaszt alulról. Az átjáróházként használt, hangulatos udvart - az Operaház kocsifeljárójához hasonlóan - fakockák burkolják.

Amb aquests materials vaig provar de fer fotografies de gran format a la manera dels turistes de mitjans del s. XIX: una càmera Unger&Hoffmann de format 18x24 cm. fabricada a Dresden cap a 1920 (però força identica a les de 50 anys enrera), un objectiu Darlot Cone Centralisateur fabricat a Paris el 1863 i diverses plàques de col·lodió sec i calotips, tots de factura propia.

 

Els resultats han estat variats, des de notables a molt mediocres. El Darlot Cone Centralisateur ha mostrat donar força caracter i amplia cobertura (fins a ULF), però alhora molt fosc amb una apertura màxima de aproximadament f22.

The elements to experience and trying to take a really vintage, middle XIX Century style, picture: an Unger&Hoffmann 18x24cm camera (made in Dresden c.1920), a Darlot Cone Centralisateur lens, made in Paris in 1863, and some home-made paper calotypes & dry collodion plates.

 

The results have been highly variable, from great to pathetic. The Darlot CC lens has resulted in a highly characteristic lens capable of covering even ULF format while in the "paysage" option, yet very dark, with a max aperture of f22!

 

Quite a while ago I stumbled on to the Unger Farm Store and was surprised it was out in the country by itself.. Some nice things around it.. No one was in the store so haven't a clue what all he has.. Happy Fence Friday, Everybody!!

„The “Haus ohne Eigenschaften” (house without qualities) is located on the edge of the Cologne district of Müngersdorf, very near the second green belt which embraces the city in the shape of a crescent.

The theme is unrepresentational architecture – it is nothing but the shell, the space, the ground plan in all their purity. The house is thus rather without qualities, only characterised by its dimensions, geometry and proportions, or, as the architect puts it: “Nothing moves, nothing is hidden, concealed or decrypted. There is nothing behind it; all what is meant by it is immediately visible.”

This is a house without any visible details and where nothing was left to chance: a house without base, plinth, jamb and attic (in the classical sense).

Sharply distinct from the green area and rather part of the house, right on the lawn there is a white 18 x 18 metres large, two-step platform made of natural stone, bearing the house cube as if it was put on a tray.

A total of twelve entrances leads to the ground floor in an equal manner. The façades are the same; there is no front or back.

The way inside leads through 1.5 metres thick “walls” which, in conjunction with the two inner walls, accommodate all necessary facilities like cupboards, stairs and lift, closet, toilets and boxrooms (principle of serving rooms). All rooms thus show their full spatiality without the residents having to make do without functionality.”

These are from the distant pass and I guess I should go out and drive the back roads again to see what has changed over the years... If anyone knows the name of the flower it would be nice to note!!!

Built in the 1880s by Col. Unger who was the manager of the South Fork Hunting & Fishing Club and Conemaugh Lake which would have filled the valley in the background. The Dam which created the lake collapsed 5/31/1889 and sent a wall of water downstream which killed 2,209 people. (199054)*

Suria des de la carretera sembla poc interessant, però des del darrera hi ha un parell de punts on sorprèn, com aquí, on es pot veure alhora l'església del Roser, d'origen romanic, i el castell, que data del ségle X però completament refet a partir del ségle XII.

Suria looks as an uninteresting and dull mining town from the road, but from the back there are a couple of surprising spots, like here, where you can see both the Roser church, of Romanesque origin, and the castle, which dates from the 10th century but completely rebuilt from the twelfth century.

Conegut com el Sanatori Antituberculós de Collserola, aquesta edificiació és nomes la seva part de safareig i desinfecció. De fet el sanatori mai fou acabat de construir i es destruí després de la guerra civil. En tot cas aquesta interessant estructura modernista abandonada i oblidada fou obra de Joan Rubió i construida el 1902-1905.

 

Menció apart és que mostra de nou l'absolut despreci pel patrimoni català que tenen els "nostres" governs. Patetic.

Known as the Antituberculosis Sanatorium of Collserola, this building is only its laundry and disinfection part. In fact, the sanatorium was never finished and was destroyed after the civil war. In any case, this interesting abandoned and forgotten modernist structure was the work of Joan Rubió and built in 1902-1905.

 

It also shows once again the absolute contempt for Catalan historical heritage that "our" governments have. Pathetic.

O balet conta uma história onde a fantasia e magia, típicas de um romantismo, contam as aventuras de um quebra-nozes de aparência humana, vestido como um soldado, mas que tem as pernas e a cabeça de tamanho desmensurado. A heroína, Clara, gostava tanto da sua aparência que o pediu como presente de natal ao seu padrinho. Assim o padrinho Herr Dosslmeyer fabricante de relógios disse "Era precisamente para ti", logo em seguida Clara experimenta-o e vê que ele quebra as nozes sempre sem perder o seu sorriso e também com grande eficácia. Seu irmão Fritz, que tinha visto como o quebra-nozes funcionava, também quis usá-lo, mas escolhe as nozes maiores que havia no cesto. Então o quebra-nozes, sendo usado grosseiramente pelo irmão dela, acaba quebrando um de seus braços. Diante das reclamações da pobre Clara, seu pai o juiz Stahlbaun, entrega à filha o seu quebra-nozes como propriedade exclusiva, tendo Fritz que sair para brincar com os seus brinquedos. Logo em seguida Clara pega no chão o braço de quebra-nozes e o consola abraçando-o em seus braços até ele dormir e Clara, também acaba dormindo. Com o adormecimento, Clara sonha... Clara volta ao esconderijo onde havia colocado o seu quebra-nozes, mas encontra o salão cheio de ratazanas enormes que o seu padrinho Dosselmeyer criou. A casa desapareceu e no lugar onde ficavam os móveis estavam árvores gigantescas. Não foi só isso que mudou; o Quebra-Nozes de Clara agora é um soldado de carne e osso e que tem às suas ordens um pelotão de soldados como ele. Começa uma batalha entre as ratazanas e o pelotão do Quebra-Nozes. Jogando enormes sapatos até às ratazanas, os soldados vencem a batalha, e com isso o rei das ratazanas e também as suas ratazanas fogem rapidamente. O bosque se transforma numa linda estufa de inverno. E o Quebra-Nozes transforma-se num lindo príncipe que leva Clara até o Reino das Neves, onde apresenta ao rei a rainha a menina e dançam juntos. Fim do 1º Acto.

 

Acto II

 

- 2º Ato

No início do 2º acto Clara e o príncipe Quebra-Nozes despedem-se e seguem para o Reino dos Doces pelo Caminho da Limonada, onde pastéis de todos os reinos do mundo dançam com os dois. Depois deste sonho tão mágico e fantástico Clara acorda e percebe que havia sonhado,ficando triste por isso. Deste modo, vai se despedir do padrinho mago, que tinha ido para casa na companhia do sobrinho. Então, para surpresa de Clara, o tal sobrinho é na verdade o príncipe Quebra-Nozes. Assim acaba o 2º Acto.

 

A Companhia de Dança Ana Unger apresentará o espetáculo 'Quebra Nozes', no Teatro da Paz, de 2 a 6 de dezembro, às 16h30 e 20h, e dias 16 e 17 de dezembro, no mesmo horário, com participação da Orquestra Sinfônica do Theatro da Paz. Die Alte Bibliothek (ehemals: Königliche Bibliothek, umgangssprachlich: Kommode) ist ein Baudenkmal am Bebelplatz 2 im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte und Teil des Forum Fridericianum. Errichtet 1775 bis 1780 im Auftrag von Friedrich dem Großen nach Plänen von Georg Christian Unger im Stil des Barock, wandelte sie sich 1910 zum Universitätsgebäude. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg ausgebrannt, wurde die Alte Bibliothek 1963 bis 1969 wiederaufgebaut. Seitdem beheimatet sie die Juristische Fakultät der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Burned out during World War II, the Old Library was rebuilt from 1963 to 1969. Since then, it has been home to the Faculty of Law of the Humboldt University of Berlin.

Miravet és un dels pobles més bonics de Catalunya, i una icona de les Terres del Ebre. La seva llarga historia inclou ibers, romans, musulmans, jueus, cavallers templers i fins i tot, la batalla del Ebre, al 1938.

 

En especial la historia militar del poble i el castell és llarga i variada. D'origen islamic en la seva estructura actual, però segur que inicialment iber/ilercavó, després fou ocupat pels templers (on foren assetjats durant mesos quan s'ordenà la persecució de l'ordre pel papa de Roma) i els hospitalers. També s'hi va lluitar a la Guerra dels Segadors i a la de Sucessió (a les carlinades). El darrer combat fou el 25 de juliol de 1938, al inici de la batalla de l'Ebre. Unes poques tropes feixistes hi foren encerclades pels republicans i es rendiren el mateix dia. Tot i aquesta llarga i conflictiva historia, el castell i el poble han sobreviscut notablement sencers, cosa extranya, a Catalunya.

 

Per altra banda, molts pintors han retratat les seves notables edificacións, i a nivell personal, el meu pare en feu diversos quadres.

 

Jo m'he limitat a portar-hi (arrosegar-hi, més aviat) els materials per a fer-ne una fotografia com a mitjans del s. XIX.

Miravet is one of the most beautiful villages in Catalonia, and an icon of the Terres del Ebre, the lands arround the river Ebre. Its long history includes Iberians, Romans, Muslims, Jews, Knights Templar and even the Battle of the Ebro in 1938.

 

In particular, the military history of the village and the castle is long and varied. Of Islamic origin in its current structure, but certainly initially Iberian/Ilercavonian, then it was occupied by the Knights Templar (where they were besieged for months when the persecution of the order was ordered by the Pope of Rome) and the Hospitallers. It was also fought in the War of the Reapers and the War of Succession. The last combat was on July 25, 1938, at the beginning of the Battle of the Ebro. A few fascist troops were surrounded by the republicans and surrendered the same day. Despite this long and conflicting history, the castle and the town have survived remarkably intact, which is strange in Catalonia.

 

On the other hand, many painters (my father among them) have portrayed their remarkable buildings.
