Ferns captured in a garden up in the hills of Berkeley, California. I have often been attracted to the strange shapes of the unfurling new leaves. However, I find it hard to take photos that do them justice. This is yet another attempt :)

This flower's unfurling is interesting and the opened flower surprised me. You can see the different stages in this photo. I am clueless as to its name. Many thanks, Carol for the Milkweed ID!

A few weeks ago. Although in a dark spot at the edge of a sunken trackway, this fern was picking up a little of the dawn glow. Focus stack (60 images).

Watching Nature unfurl, uncurl and emerge from its Winter hibernation is an annual joy, perhaps all the richer this year. This is a male Orange-tip butterfly (Anthocharis cardamines) concealing the orange tip to its upperwings but showing the delicate tracery of its underwings beautifully as it rests briefly on a fern.
