I looked to Jesus in my sin,

My woe and want confessing;

Undone and lost, I came to Him,—

I sought and found a blessing.

I looked to Jesus on the cross;

For me I saw Him dying;

God’s Word believed— that all my sins

Were there upon Him lying.

I looked to Jesus there on high;

From death upraised to glory;

I trusted in His power to save,

Believed the old, old story.

He looked on me— oh, look of love!

My heart by it was broken;

And with that look of love He gave

The Holy Spirit’s token.

Now one with Christ, I find my peace

In Him to be abiding;

And in His love for all my need,

In childlike faith confiding.

I took this photo through the windshield of my husbands truck while he was driving through a tunnel. The overhead lights remind me of a roll of film that it unwinding.

Keep holding on when my brain's ticking like a bomb

Gets the blood clots to come, I can forget me

Sweet bitter words unlike nothing I have heard

Sing along mocking bird, you don't affect me

That's right

Deliver into my heart

Please try

Bring deliverance

Wait

I'm coming undone

I waste

I'm coming undone

Too late

I'm coming undone

What looks so strong, so delicate

Wait

I'm starting to suffocate

And soon I anticipate

I'm coming undone

What looks so strong, so delicate

Choke, choke again

I thought me demons were my friends

They decay, in the end they're out to get me

Since I was young I tasted sorrow on my tongue

And this sweet choking gun does not protect me

That's right

Trigger between my eyes

Please try

Make it quick now

I'm trying to hold it together

And it's like a bed of feather

Looks like I'm not getting better

Not getting better

Sept, 2006

Your undone braids conceal

Desert, forest scents,

In your exotic countenance

Lie secrets unrevealed.

Now and then, your appetite's

Uncontrolled, unassuaged:

Mysteriously enraged,

You kiss me and you bite.

Dark one, I am torn

By your savage ways,

Then, soft as the moon, your gaze

Sees my tortured heart reborn.

You bring my spirit back,

Bringer of the light.

Exploding color in the night

Of my Siberia so black.

Charles Baudelaire. Afternoon Song (l. 9-12, 24-31, 36-39)

“What are you going to do? Everything, is my guess. It will be a little messy, but embrace the mess. It will be complicated, but rejoice in the complications” Nora Ephron

A year later the King took to himself another wife. She was a beautiful woman with elegance in dress and grace in movement, but she was proud and arrogant, and she could not stand it if anyone might surpass her in beauty. She came from a long line of sorceresses, and as such she had in her possession a magic mirror. Every morning she stood before it, looked at her handsome face in its reflection, and said:

“Looking glass, looking glass, in my hand,

Who is the fairest in the land?”

To this the mirror answered:

“I have viewed the world and seen,

Thou art fairest of all, my Queen.”

Only then was her dark and envious heart satisfied, for she knew that the mirror spoke only the truth.

‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 28th of June is "a single minifigure", so how could I not have one of my favourite villainesses in miniature for this theme by selecting one of my Playmobil minifigures? I was a strange child who always loved the villains in the dark old European faerie tales my Grandmother and Nanny used to tell me. I particularly liked the Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because she was aloof, elegant and beautiful. I also liked her because she was clever and tenacious. We all know that Snow White was undone by a poisoned apple, but if you only know the Disney version of this tale, you may not know that in the original, the Queen tried to do away with her stepdaughter four times. Firstly, she tried by way of the huntsman who was to return with Snow White’s lungs and liver as way of proof of her death. When that failed, she resorted to do away with the child herself secondly by lacing her stays so tightly she stopped breathing. When that failed, she resorted to her witch’s arts for her third attempt with a comb which had poisoned teeth, and then finally the apple that was so cleverly contrived that only half was poisoned, so she could convince gullible Snow White that it was safe to eat by taking a bite from the white, untainted half. Now that’s what I call a tenacious villainess! I hope you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile!

Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany. Production began in 1974. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold. The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face. A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line. Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets. New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued. Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors. The Queen in my tableaux is what is known as a “Playmobil Special” which is a limited edition figure with accessories sold in its own box. Released in 2001, she is Playmobil set 4591, known as the “Black Queen” and her face is painted differently to standard Playmobil figures to suggest that perhaps she is wicked, or mischievous at least with her shifty brown eyes with dark eyelashes! For this reason, she is highly sought after by collectors and is quite expensive to acquire. Playmobil also released a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs play set (set 4211) in 2006 with its own different Queen character, but you shall have to wait for another day to see what she looks like!

“We are spinning our own fates, good or evil, and never to be undone. Every smallest stroke of virtue or of vice leaves its never-so-little scar.”

I love that quote to no end, and how if you look closely you can see all of the little lines in this. But zoomed out they all kind of blur together. Isn't that what life's like?

I kind of wish the spinning would slow down sometimes though. Especially lately. Weird things keep happening. We had an insane storm today and were under tornado warning for an hour.. which I believe has only happened one other time in like, forever. And everything's happening crazily fast and it's hard to keep track of it all.

To everyone who saw something like this up the other day for a second, I'm sorry I made you think you were crazy :P. And same goes for last night - I didn't really like that picture and didn't want that writing to stay up forever.

As for how I do these christmas lights shots.. I just drive to the middle of nowhere and then open the door and run an extension cord out.

Here is just one of the dozens of waterfalls at Ricketts Glen State Park in northern Pennsylvania. Autumn colors were moderate at best as I probably missed their peak by less than a week. Quite discouraging traveling for several hours only to see many fallen leaves that are already brown. Hit or miss sometimes, but I tried to make the most of my time...still a wonderful hike.

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. ~Lin Yutang
