On the 16th of April of 1945, the Soviet Union's major offensive into the heart of Germany continued, and resulted in the unconditional surrender of the German forces in the city on the 2nd of May. Although the defeat of Germany was a foregone conclusion by the spring of 1945, both the Soviet and German forces suffered a vast number of casualties in the battles that would end the war on the Eastern Front.
This build depicts a group of Soviet infantry accompanying a T-34/85 medium tank that is advancing through the damaged city of Berlin, while the German forces attempt to hold their positions.
This build consists of approximately 12,000 parts. The tank is about 1:42 scale, and if anyone is interested, I can share the digital file for it.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

One of the most photographed statues in Florida, if not America, is a 26-foot tall statue that calls Sarasota home. It commemorates the famous photo that appeared in LIFE magazine of a young U.S. sailor dipping and kissing a nurse in Times Square on the day World War II ended. The statue, Unconditional Surrender, is part of a series of statues created by American artist Seward Johnson and can today be found in Sarasota's Bayfront Park. This statue pays homage to the "Greatest Generation" and the joyful celebrations at the end of the war.
Fort Pulaski was named after Revolutionary War hero General Casimir Pulaski of Poland, who is considered the "Father of the American Cavalry." Pulaski was mortally wounded a few miles west of here as he rallied troops against the British.
Days before Georgia seceded from the United States and joined the Confederate States, the state militia walked into the federal fortification of Fort Pulaski on Cockspur Island near Savannah and took its watch. In effect, the fort was now theirs as secession was declared, and war broke out. Unfortunately for the Confederacy, it then did not support the surrounding ground because its military command thought the area was too remote, a waste of resources for what it deemed to be an impenetrable fort. The Civil War would quickly test those military assumptions. The United States thought of Fort Pulaski in terms of a bigger picture–Southern supply chain, military logistics, and economic bottleneck. Controlling the traffic of the Southern port city of Savannah was very important to the overall war effort.
The United States military took advantage of the blind eye of the Confederacy's military command. First came the U.S. Navy, blockading the Savannah River for a 112-day siege of the fort. But that was not enough. The U.S. Army built up troops and batteries by night at Tybee Island, hidden, on Fort Pulaski's facing shore of the Savannah River.
On April 10, 1862, U.S. troops struck out. Rolling back their camouflage, they bombarded Confederate-occupied Fort Pulaski and won. The Confederate commander unconditionally surrendered, noting his isolation from any Confederate backup and that a breached wall exposed his entire garrison to the possibility of a catastrophic explosion from the ammunition storage area. He stated:
"We were absolutely isolated beyond any possibility of help from the Confederate authorities, and I did not feel warranted in exposing the garrison to the hazard of the blowing up of our main magazine -- a danger which had just been proved well within the limits of probability."†
The reclaimed fort would remain under U.S. control for the remainder of the Civil War.
The Confederacy did not emphasize the loss of Fort Pulaski because of clearer tactics, strategy, or supply logistics employed by their foe that capitalized on the Confederate military's blindspots but rather because of the Union's state-of-the-art technology that Confederate commanders did not anticipate to be used against their impenetrable fort, i.e. new rifled-bore cannons of the Union shot further and more accurately than traditional smooth-bore cannons. The new cannon fire could now reach the fort from the opposite shore to bring down its walls.
Wikipedia observes the strategic loss for the Confederacy and the strategic gain of Fort Pulaski for the United States: "all shipping into and out of Savannah ceased. The loss of Savannah as a viable Confederate port crippled its war effort."

FLICKR!!!!!!!!! Its been so long! As you can probably tell, I am here in America with senor Nace - and oh my days so much has happened!!!!
I flew in on saturday (6 whole days ago, i am ashamed to say) from manchester to chicago. I met a really really kind guy called Jon at manchester airport, we watched movies before the flight boarded and we helped each other change terminals at Chicago. I took a sleeping pill on the plane but it did jack shit because I WAS TOO EXCITED!!!!! I arrived at Raleigh, NC late saturday evening and met my baby at the airport, we headed home with some fried chicken and fell asleep in bed pronto.
The next day we decorated Aaron's house FULL of paper chains and christmas lights and paper snowflakes - just like in ELF.
We got a christmas tree and went shopping at Jareds! ;)
THEN we headed out to South Carolina for a few days with some friends Joe and Caroline! We forgot to bring internet but rented home alone and this photo was taken on Joe's dock - he has a boat and we went riding in it and it was AWESOME! we saw dolphins and pelicans and i saw my first palm tree!!! it was soooo hot and my hair went so frizzy but we had so much fun!
now we are back home after a great vacation and are going to get back to WORK! that is, we are going to take 365s everyday and not appear to be dead to everyone who doesnt know where we are.
i am just so happy to be here with my aaron. i missed him SO much!

He's too far away to tell for sure, but I think that this is a Frosted White-face Dragonfly (Leucorrhinia frigida), resting on a lily pad and a yellow water lily (Nuphar lutea). I keep trying to shoot the lilies as they are opening, and keep missing them. Most of those that are open now are "deflated" or have gone to seed.

We rescued Charlie in 2019. Even then, he had some gray in his muzzle. When we guessed he was about five years old, he didn't protest.
After many adventures and many years of unconditional companionship, Charlie has died. I will sorely miss my hiking/photography comrade and friend.

The "Unconditional Surrender" statue of a sailor and nurse kissing will be moved from San Diego to New Jersey after Memorial Day, loaned to San Diego in 2007 by the Sculpture Foundation, where it will undergo maintenance before the roughly 6,000-pound sculpture and its 24,000-pound base will be shipped to New Jersey according to the Port of San Diego. "This is kind of a bittersweet day for Americas Finest City"
