I cannot visit the lakeshore without taking time to share my joys and sorrows, my prayers and my praise, and I find myself unburdened again!

Whenever I am sad or happy this song never fails me... <3
“My prayers, my tears, my wishes, fears, and lamentations, were witnessed by myself and heaven alone. When we are harassed by sorrows or anxieties, or long oppressed by any powerful feelings which we must keep to ourselves, for which we can obtain and seek no sympathy from any living creature, and which yet we cannot, or will not wholly crush, we often naturally seek relief in poetry—and often find it, too—whether in the effusions of others, which seem to harmonize with our existing case, or in our own attempts to give utterance to those thoughts and feelings in strains less musical, perchance, but more appropriate, and therefore more penetrating and sympathetic, and, for the time, more soothing, or more powerful to rouse and to unburden the oppressed and swollen heart.”
― Anne Brontë, Agnes Grey
Once the river Kamnitz was flowing unburdened and fast at this point through the valley of the Edmundsklamm. But the years had erode the scarps. One day, many years ego, a large rock detached from the walls causing an avalanche. When the tons of sandstone rocks came to rest, they blocked a big part of the river bed. Since then a barrier laying here and the water had to build its way around. Over many years nature reshaped that place to a piece of art what is here shining in the light of the morning sun.

♫♫Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper - Shallow♫♫
Immersed in the enchanting world of sincerity, she experienced a newfound sense of lightness and freedom as never before. Unburdened by judgments and preconceived notions, she embraced life with an unfettered spirit Love, dreams, and creativity flowed naturally, guided solely by her innermost desires. Every moment held the promise of boundless joy, particularly those filled with novel and profound connections.
Like a gentle caress, the encounter with this beautiful stranger gave her a profound sense of an inexplicable warmth and care. This gentle embrace, akin to a first kiss, penetrated into the very depths of her being, as if conveying something profound and intimate. The desire to conform or present a false facade vanished, replaced by an inexpressible peace and tranquility. Tenderness permeated her being, spreading like a soft breeze through the labyrinthine corridors of her mind.
In this extraordinary space, the distinction between the physical and ethereal blurred. Bright starry light, melodic sounds, and the cosmic currents intertwined seamlessly, transcending all boundaries. Distance from mundane distractions dissolved, leaving only the comforting warmth of a stranger's touch — an embrace that enveloped her like a protective cocoon, shielding her from the storms of the world and in her mind was playing a wonderful tune… We are far from the Shallow now…

I drove past this scene on Saturday, it caught my eye but I kept driving. After another two miles on a fairly rough road, I couldn't get the shot out of my mind. So I found a place to turn around and made my way back.
I spent maybe 15 minutes here. It was right before lunch, and those noodles weren't going to make themselves.
Seeing that this lovely bed of wildflowers was a bit more sparse than I'd like it to be, I shot low. I wanted a bit of a breeze and a long exposure so that the colors of the swaying flowers could take up a bit more space.
With a 6-stop ND filter, I was able to achieve a 4-second exposure. f/12 on this lens can be pretty dreamy, and I was counting on that as well.
This idea that the camera doesn't matter is a lie. The camera, the lens, the film - it all matters. And yes, you can get a photo you end up liking with any camera/lens/film, but this is the photo I envisioned, and it was only achievable through this specific lens and emulsion (and developer, thanks).
I got what I wanted because I knew and understood the tools at my disposal. Maybe I would have loved whatever photo I might have gotten with a random camera and lens (from simple 35mm to some big 8x10 tintype), but here I got the photo I saw in my head.

Standing before a boundless vast-it sheds everything an individual can
retain and thus being unburdened of everything- it wins all.
The wind coming from over the infinite ocean touches it!
in the midst of chaos...

by duplicity...
breathe.
just breathe.
tomorrow i will awaken...
unburdened.

living in questions, rather than answers.
choosing survival over healing.

so uncertain, so difficult to control.

exploring this nondualistic universe.
surrounded by mystery.

In quiet corners, where thoughts unwind,
A tapestry of silence, for the soul to find,
Reflections dance, on the still lake's face,
A solitary journey, in this peaceful space.
The whispering wind, a gentle serenade,
As shadows lengthen, in the forest's shade,
A lone star's glimmer, in the velvet night,
A moment of clarity, a beacon of light.
The echoes of laughter, from memories past,
A bittersweet longing, that can't seem to last,
But in this solitude, a truth is revealed,
The strength within, that can never be concealed.
Like petals falling, from a wilting rose,
The heart unburdens, as the spirit grows,
A canvas of introspection, painted with care,
The beauty of solitude, a treasure to share.
So let the world fade, with its clamoring sound,
In the embrace of stillness, true peace is found,
For in the quiet moments, the soul takes flight,
A reflection of solitude, bathed in pure light.
Now it's time to let the curtains unfold and
Tell all the stories that I didn't want told
I let it out so I unburden my soul
I won't stop
'Cause I don't know
The perfect road to go down
But I know
I'm trying my best
I'm trying my best to be okay
I'm trying my best but every day
It's so hard

As the autumn winds swept through the golden fields, the lighthouse stood tall against the backdrop of a painted sky. Shades of crimson, amber, and rust blanketed the landscape, while horses grazed peacefully, their breaths forming soft clouds in the crisp air. It was as if the season itself was sewing the earth, stitching the summer's warmth into the fabric of the approaching winter.
Standing near the lighthouse, I watched the waves crash against the shore, reflecting on the rhythm of life, how it ebbs and flows like the sea. The horses, so free and untamed, reminded me of all the things I wished I could change within myself. They had no fear of the future, only the present moment to savor. In this quiet space, I realized the wisdom of nature... to live simply, to embrace the passing seasons with grace.
Like the leaves, we must shed the things that no longer serve us in order to grow anew. With every stitch, the world prepares for rest, reminding me to nurture my heart, be kind to myself, and find beauty in the ever-changing moments.
The lighthouse, unwavering and constant, whispered a truth in its stillness: "You are always enough, as you are, even as you change. Be gentle with yourself, for growth comes not from perfection but from patience."
And with that, I felt a quiet peace settle within me, as the horses galloped through the autumn fields, free and unburdened by time.

**My heart, my words. Please respect them.**
Dear reader,
These words you are reading right now, whether it's a poem, a short story, or a thought is a piece of my soul. I write with passion, each word flowing from my heart, deeply connected to me. My poems are not just words, they are alive, carrying my emotions and essence within them.
If you plan to take them without my permission, know this: you are also taking a piece of my soul. And with every stolen word, I will always be present within the lines you use.
So be mindful… You never know what lies hidden between the lines, for words hold a power that goes far beyond the visible.💫
Can we speak of our lives with intimacy
Let the stories and the pain unfold
A retelling of cries amid the lies
Or is it like trying to keep the memories inside
Like building the levee up further
To stop the incoming tide
We walk around with our heartbreaks
So many apparent on our sleeves
Often we just grin and bear it
We never learnt to say please
The silence becomes another person
We become adept at introductions
Passing the conversation over
Hoping they will take the lead
The hurt is carried like an old suitcase
One you keep under the bed
You only take it out on rare occasions
Like that leech left over in the jar
One you use when you need to be bled
To speak of your life with intimacy
Is to leave nothing unsaid
To unburden your litany of regrets
Is to flay the skin from your bones
Feel again those metaphoric thrown stones
And wish you were completely alone
Literally better off dead
You may be the only one left standing
But at least you can recognise who you are
The mirrors have shattered
And even your ghost cannot hide
It has been waiting forever
Until your shade showed another side
*****
This image was taken in St.Mary’s churchyard, Eastbourne, East Sussex, in the UK. When I looked at it later, this poem came out, written in a continuous stream, as a response to it.
The only thing I can do is to leave it here and perhaps that is all there is to say, all that is needed to be said, while we find our courage to live well.
I have paired this work with the song “Ghosts That I Knew” by Mumford and Sons, as it is a song about coming to terms with loss and haunting regrets, which is what I felt when I took the image that accompanies this poem.

Excerpt from the plaque:
Paradise: After descending to Inferno where he saw the roots of evil and death, Dante climbs the mountain of Purgatory freeing himself from the restraints of his thoughts. Now he has to cross a forest shrouded in an all-encompassing light: Paradise. This final step reminds humans that they are not doomed to darkness, but devoted to light.
By making this final crossing, Dante, on behalf of all, goes beyond human limits. He rejects the idea of a human shackled by his own being and longs for that of a human freed and unburdened from unnecessary weight. While Inferno shows a diminished humanity and Purgatory presents it struggling with itself, Paradise reveals what a fulfilled humanity is.
It shows that beyond the dark horizons lies a love so great that it can teach anyone to love. Therefore, Dante in Paradise is the one who rid himself of everything that kept him from reaching knowledge. Vision and culture are given back to him, allowing him to reveal himself. With Dante, Paradise is a sort of legacy to lost times. All the dimensions of humans are given to them like a challenge: that each one be a response to the misfortunes of his time.
unburden myself stone by stone, and I will look at them in the light and perhaps they will no longer weigh so heavily.

'The Brack' is another unfortunate anglicization & probably stems from 'Beinn Bhreac' (Speckled Hill).
I'm happy to give some context to the unassuming Luss Hills here (far left), an area which helped maintain my sanity during the past 15 months. You can make out that, in their own right, they present a fairly impressive & distinct skyline. Located at the virtual gateway to the Highlands renders them something of an afterthought to most, however, & they quietly go about their business unburdened by the excessive footfall suffered by the nearby Arrochar Hills or Ben Lomond.
Loch Long's arrow-straight characteristics allow the U.K.'s ministry of defence the convenience of having the ideal conditions for testing submarine missiles up its length. Isn't the human race just wonderful! (!).

Oodgeroo Noonuccal’s All One Race is a passionate call for unity, a poetic rejection of the divisions that have long defined human history. With clarity and emotional strength, she strips away the superficial barriers of skin color and origin, urging readers to see beyond the surface. The poem moves with simplicity but lands with force—it reminds us that difference does not mean distance. Her voice speaks not just for Indigenous Australians, but for anyone who has felt the sting of exclusion. In her world, humanity isn’t fractured—it’s one vast, interconnected family, equal in worth and spirit.
At its heart, All One Race is not just a protest—it’s a vision. Oodgeroo invites us to imagine a future unburdened by prejudice, where love and understanding replace fear and hate. The poem doesn’t ask for assimilation; it demands acceptance without erasure. She celebrates diversity while championing common ground, recognizing that peace begins not with uniformity, but with empathy. In just a few verses, she builds a powerful bridge between cultures, offering a message as urgent today as when it was first written: we belong to one another, and we are all, ultimately, one race.
The morning light drapes across his skin, catching on the curves and contours like water flowing over smooth stone.
He stands there, silent and still, as if he were carved from some ancient dream, summoned only in the early hush before the world stirs.
The air is thick with a quiet warmth, laced with salt and sunlight, mingling with the faint whispers of the sea beyond.
Here, he is unguarded, just a breath away from the past, a step away from the future. In this brief, perfect stillness, he is simply himself—a blend of strength and softness, light and shadow.
A vision of beauty unburdened, as if he has stepped outside of time, just to be.

...in Coire Fionnaraich, Scottish Western Highlands.
This is a picture of the Bothy on the Coulags to Coire Fionnaraich trail, near Achnashellach in the Scottish Highlands. It's a beautiful walk and one i have done a few times, on occasion to climb a munro, other times just to take landscape photographs. On this particular November morning in 2013, i was heading in to take pictures, it was a very cold morning with hail showers, so i was especially glad to reach this familiar and wonderful Bothy , unburden myself from my heavy photography equipment, tripod etc and have a cup of coffee and sandwich before heading further into the beautiful Corrie. It wasn't a great day for photography, but , as always, i thouroughly enjoyed myself in these magnificent surroundings and it seemed i had it all to myself, having not seen a soul all day. On the way back, i stopped at the Bothy again for a wee rest, then walked back to Coulags...a wonderful day !
On a distant shore, where whispers dwell,
I journey through the sands of time,
To meet the self I knew so well,
And ponder thoughts, deep in mind.
The waves, they sing a haunting tune,
Of dreams once bright, now shadows cast,
In twilight's glow, beneath the moon,
I seek the echoes of my past.
I find the child with eyes so wide,
Unburdened by the weight of years,
His laughter, like the rising tide,
A balm to soothe my deepest fears.
The youth who dared to chase the stars,
With passion fierce and heart so true,
His spirit, free of earthly bars,
A beacon in the endless blue.
I stand before these shades of me,
And question all that I have been,
To find the path that sets me free,
And reconcile the now and then.
With every step, a choice is made,
To honor who I was before,
Or change the course, let go, and trade,
For someone better, something more.
The distant shore, a place of peace,
Where past and present intertwine,
In its embrace, I find release,
And forge a future, that is mine.

A Place to Put Your Things by Sandra Brewster
A Place to Put Your Things is the first interactive public artwork by Toronto-based artist Sandra Brewster, commissioned as part of By Way of Communion, her 2022 solo exhibition at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery.
Taking the form of a swing in the shape of two people kissing, the work is part of an ongoing series titled Smith, which Brewster began in 2004. Referring to the common surname comprising the largest section of many printed telephone books, the series features various “Smith” pages collaged and transformed into abstract profiles through drawing, animation, and painting. These works point to the absurd assumptions underpinning stereotypes and systems of classification, including those endured by many members of the Black community. While a shared surname may unite, it also offers a veil of anonymity. As individuals have differing behaviours, beliefs, and experiences, this common naming raises questions around identity and implied expectations when bonds are not constructed through familial ties alone.
Overlooking the shifting waters of Lake Ontario, A Place to Put Your Things asks us to set aside the stereotypes and assumptions evoked by these simplified figures and sit for a while in playful togetherness. In Brewster’s words, it provides “a place to rest and be at peace, to unburden oneself, and simply sway at one’s own pace and rhythm. Play being a central element of the work, the sculpture connects to an inner child and can be engaged by children and adults alike.”
