Saint Fotini, Mantineia / Greece
one of the strangest churches in the world.
Next to the ancient Greek theater of Mantineia is located Saint Fotini, built by the Arcadian architect Kostas Papatheodorou. It is a building that combines ancient Greek and Christian influences, which built stone-by-stone, painted and decorated on its own from 1970-75, with the help of a few unskilled workers. The stones and marbles were collected from the demolished buildings, barrows and sheets of the Arcadian plateau and were processed one by one with almost primitive tools. He then built an ancient Heron outside the temple, in honor of the Arcadians who fought for their homeland and a Jacobite Freer, symbolizing Jesus' meeting with Samaritan. He painted the interior of the church giving the saints modern human figures and made mosaics on the floors with representations of ancient Greek mythology that are adorned with Christian doctrines. Many great names in art were flattered about his work, but many also strongly disputed it. The official Orthodox Church accepted it, but without objection. The architect as a true faithful Christian has so far defended his work modestly. Although he studied at major universities in Vienna and Berlin next to world-class teachers, he remains a very gentle and modest personality. Saint Fotini owes its existence not only to him, but also to the enlightened minds of the Mantinian League, who commissioned it to build and support to the end his revolutionary architectural innovations.

Περίπου στα 12χλμ. βόρεια της Τρίπολης βρίσκεται μια από της πιο παράξενες εκκλησίες στον κόσμο, ακριβώς απέναντι από τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Μαντίνειας.
Άρχισε να κτίζεται το 1970 από τον αρχιτέκτονα Κωνσταντίνο Παπαθεοδώρου μετά από πρόταση που του έγινε από τον Μαντινειακό Σύνδεσμο, του οποίου ο χώρος αυτός είναι ιδιοκτησία.
Ο ίδιος ο κ. Παπαθεοδώρου εξηγεί: «Η εκκλησία είναι φτιαγμένη σε επίπεδα που το ένα φαίνεται να πατάει επάνω στο άλλο. Άλλωστε, η κίνηση διαδραματίζει σημαντικό ρόλο στο σύνολο της εκκλησίας. Το άνω τελείωμα του ναού μοιάζει με αέτωμα, αλλά βουλιάζει όπως τα φτωχά καλυβάκια του κάμπου της Μαντινείας. Συγχρόνως ο ναός κάμπτεται ψηλά από το βάρος των πολλών Αγίων. Ορισμένα τμήματα του ναού, όπως οι κίονες, έχουν σμιλευτεί με τρόπο που δημιουργεί την ψευδαίσθηση ότι κάποτε ήταν φτιαγμένοι από ξύλο και στη συνέχεια αντικαταστάθηκαν από μάρμαρο, όπως ακριβώς συνέβη με τους ναούς κατά την αρχαιότητα.

Πριν κάποια χρόνια περνώντας τυχαία (μαλλον πήρα λάθος στροφή ) διπλα από το χωριο Βυτινεικα, λίγα χιλιόμετρα πριν την πόλη του Κατακολου στον νόμο Ηλείας, είδα στα δεξιά μου να δεσπόζει πάνω σε έναν μικρό λόφο αυτό το έτοιμορροπο οίκημα. Έκοψα λίγο ταχύτητα γιατί μου τράβηξε την προσοχή έντονα , αλλά δεν σταμάτησα. Όταν επέστρεψα στο σπίτι μου κάτι με έτρωγε και είπα να το ψάξω λίγο.
Και τελικά ανακάλυψα την ιστορία αυτής της Οικίας που είναι γνωστή ως "Βίλα Λεονταρίτη "
Η ιστορία του ξεκινά κάπου στα τέλη του 19ου αιώνα. Πρόκειται για το εξοχικό σπίτι που έχτισε ο γιατρός Βασίλειος Λεονταρίτης σε σχέδια του Βαυαρού αρχιτέκτονα Ερνέστου Τσίλλερ ο οποίος είχε πλούσια αρχιτεκτονική δράση στην χώρα μας.
Είναι χτισμένο σε στρατηγικό σημείο από άποψη θεας.
Η ιστορία της Οικογένειας Λεονταρίτη χάνεται κάπου στα χρόνια του εμφυλίου και από τότε το σπίτι δεν ξαναβρήκε πραγματικό ιδιοκτήτη. Στα επόμενα χρόνια έμεναν στο σπίτι κάποιοι αγρότες της περιοχής μεχρι και την δεκαετία του 70 όπου και άρχισε να εγκαταλείπεται τελείως.
Some years ago passing by chance (probably I took a wrong turn) next to the village of Vytineika, a few kilometers before the town of Katakolo in the prefecture of Ilia, I saw on my right dominating a small hill this ready-made house. I slowed down a bit because it caught my attention strongly, but I didn't stop. When I got back to my house something was eating at me and I said to look it up a bit.
And finally I discovered the history of this House known as "Leondaritis Villa"
Its history begins somewhere at the end of the 19th century. This is the country house built by the doctor Vassilios Leontaritis according to the plans of the Bavarian architect Ernestos Ziller, who had a rich architectural activity in our country.
It is built at a strategic point from the point of view of the goddess.
The history of the Leontaritis Family is lost somewhere in the years of the civil war and since then the house never found a real owner again. In the following years, some local farmers lived in the house until the 70s, when it began to be completely abandoned.

I had to wait over half an hour to be able to photograph the tram alone without cars in front and behind. The photograph was taken in the afternoon on the road "calcada de Sao Francisco. The best time to achieve this is early in the morning when the sun is just starting to rise, when there are very few cars.
Έπρεπε να περιμένω πάνω από μισή ώρα για να μπορέσω να φωτογραφίσω το τραμ μόνο του χωρίς αυτοκίνητα μπροστά και πίσω. Η φωτογραφία τραβήχτηκε το απόγευμα στον δρόμο "calcada de Sao Francisco". Η καλύτερη ώρα για να το πετύχετε αυτό είναι νωρίς το πρωί, όταν ο ήλιος μόλις αρχίζει να ανατέλλει, όταν υπάρχουν πολύ λίγα αυτοκίνητα.
I really like the static nature of the buildings combined with the fluidity of the environment around them. And I also like how the light at certain times of the day changes the textures of the buildings and emphasizes their geometry. These are elements that fascinate me in the urban landscape and I think this is a photograph that combines these.
Μου αρέσει πολύ όταν η στατικότητα των κτηρίων συνδιάζεται με την ρευστότητα του περιβάλλοντος γύρω από αυτά. Και επίσης μου αρέσει πως το φως κάποιες ώρες αλλάζει της υφές των κτηρίων και τονίζει την γεωμετρία τους. Αυτά είναι στοιχεία που με γοητεύουν στο αστικό τοπίο και αυτή νομίζω πως είναι μια φωτογραφία που τα συνδιάζει αυτά.
Δυστυχώςο καιρός δεν ήταν σύμμαχος μου στο ταξίδι μου στην όμορφη Βουδαπέστη. εντάξει, δεν έβρεχε όλη μέρα αλλά έβρεχε κυρίως της ώρες που θα βγαλω της πιο καλές μου φωτογραφίες. Και αυτές δυστηχως δεν ήταν πολλές, δεν μπόρεσα να φωτογραφισω ακριβώς όπως ήθελα κάποια θέματα. Στης λίγες που μπόρεσα θέλω να πιστεύω πως κάτι κατάφερα. Αυτό που κατάλαβα πάντως σίγουρα είναι πως ο Μάης δεν είναι τελικά η καλύτερη εποχή για ταξίδι στην κεντρική Ευρώπη, μιας και ο καιρός αυτόν τον μήνα είναι αρκετά απρόβλεπτος.
unfortunately the weather was not my ally on my trip to beautiful Budapest. ok, it didn't rain all day but it rained mainly during the hours when I will take my best photos. And unfortunately there weren't many of them, I couldn't photograph some subjects exactly as I wanted. in the few that I could, I want to believe that I accomplished something. What I definitely understood, however, is that May is ultimately not the best time to travel to central Europe, since the weather in this month is quite unpredictable.

I was running uphill to catch the blue hour, but I didn't make it and I barely missed it. It came out a little brighter, which is not something I prefer.

This picturesque alley, with its small, colourful houses, is steeped in legends and myths that have also attracted numerous writers and artists, including the renowned Franz Kafka, who once resided here. Currently, several houses host an exhibition showcasing life in the lane over its 500-year history.
The modest dwellings that arose with the new castle fortifications represent the last remnants of Prague Castle’s smaller habitations. These houses were once home to castle marksmen, families, and goldsmiths, and they remained inhabited all the way up until the Second World War. During the First Republic, care was taken to ensure that the street’s picturesque character was preserved through careful renovations. White Crab Spider
This species has a wide, flat body that is short and crab-like. It can walk sideways in addition to being able to move forward and backward. Of its eight legs, the first two pairs are the longest. These sets of legs are usually held open, as the spider uses them to capture its prey. Misumena vatia is harmless to humans, as its fangs are not powerful enough to penetrate human skin and its venom is too weak to harm larger animals.

8 sec exposure deleted two girls walking on the left, away from me. This shot was just a test, what would happen when someone passes by.
This shot I haven't planned to include in any sort of upload. But, it turned out, among cca 20 shots, this was the best.
I purposely tilted sea horizon a bit, to get more drama to the boat position, and it's blurriness.
I noticed that this crane was also moving a bit , which also can be seen and pined down.
Medium wind was actually moving a Little Jacob a lot, and I haven't noticed that it is blurry in my preview shots.
But as I've learned it at home, I accepted it. The original idea was to see clearly that this is Little Jacob, and I have a few shots where it can be seen, i.e. where boat was fully sharp
But I really liked this, dramatic one, so here it is.

When I took this shot, I said (and without knowing how it turned out) : it already paid off to carry a tripod with me. If I take nothing more on this walk, it was worth the hassle of cca 300 grams extra on my back.

Χαίρομαι που επιτέλους κατάφερα και επισκέφτηκα την συγκεκριμένη εκκλησία. Πολλοί θα την χαρακτηρίσουν αριστούργημα, άλλοι θα την πουν έκτρωμα, αλλά ας συμφωνήσουμε τουλάχιστον στον όρο ιδιαίτερη.
Προσωπικά ετσι χαριτολογώντας, αυτό που μου ήρθε στην σκέψη κοιτώντας την είναι οτι κάποιος πήρε κοματια από διάφορες εκκλησίες και ναούς και απλά τα συναρμολογησε. Αν βρεθείτε στην περιοχή αξίζει οπωσδήποτε να βρεθείτε εκεί.
Δυστηχως από απροσεξία δικιά μου ο φακός δεν εστίασε καλά (μαλον κουνήθηκε το τριποδο ) με αποτέλεσμα να είναι λίγο soft η εικονα αλλα θα πρεπει να κανει καποιος ζουμ για να το δει. Μικρο το κακο, αλλα πιστεψτε με δεν θα θελατε να εισασταν διπλα μου οταν την ανοιξα στον υπολογιστη μου και την ειδα.

St. Nicholas Church, the most famous baroque church in Prague, stands together with the former Jesuit Professed House in the middle of Malostranské náměstí (Lesser Town Square).
Consecrated by the Prague bishop Tobiáš in 1283, a medieval parish church stood in its place until 1743 and in the neighborhood a Romanesque rotunda of St. Wenceslas. The present church of St. Nicholas belongs to the most valuable Baroque buildings north of the Alps. Three related generations of great Baroque architects – father, son and son-in-law – took part in this work, which took approximately one hundred years to complete: Kryštof Dientzenhofer, Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer and Anselmo Lurago.
Η εκκλησία του Αγίου Νικολάου, η πιο διάσημη μπαρόκ εκκλησία της Πράγας, βρίσκεται μαζί με το πρώην σπίτι των Ιησουιτών στη μέση της Malostranské náměstí (πλατεία της Μικρής Πόλης).
Καθαγιασμένος από τον επίσκοπο της Πράγας Tobiáš το 1283, μια μεσαιωνική ενοριακή εκκλησία βρισκόταν στη θέση της μέχρι το 1743 και στη γειτονιά μια ρομανική ροτόντα του Αγίου Βέντσελα. Larinioides Spider
Larinioides is a genus of orb-weaver spiders commonly known as flying spiders and first described by Lodovico di Caporiacco in 1934.[2] They mostly occur in temperate climates around the northern hemisphere. The name is derived from the related araneid spider genus Larinia, with the meaning "like Larinia".

Vintage earrings. I love the concentric intricacy of these earrings - these go back to the 1970's. I saw the challenge this week to also construct a setup that emphasised the title of the challenge - achieved using shallow light and a soft background. The earrings were photographed on a micro fibre cloth (hardly vintage though!) - you can just see part of the weave in focus.
Underexposed by two stops - a technique I often use to protect those valuable highlights and bokeh. Two flashlights and a defused RGB video Ulanzi light cube was used.

I've been meaning to shoot these steel posts at Newhaven for a while now. Although on this particular day the only lens I had with me was a new 100-400mm which I was using to scout out some new compositions along the south coast.
I had my phone mount with me so thought I should at least have a go...so into the shallows I went. These posts are not easy to compose without crossover. You also need a low tide so you can get onto the posts at an angle. The conditions were however perfect for LE, very calm, very overcast and very moody.
My apologies for being quiet of late with faves and comments. I've had Covid for the last 8 days and what with the recent heat wave, my energy levels have been non-existent...
