With a forecast for calm winds and clear skies on Sunday night, I ventured out to the Capitol Reflecting Pool to see if a clear reflection in the water was possible. The wind was never perfectly calm, but the reflection still turned out pretty good. It's actually nice that the reflection is mostly clear and still has a little movement in it.
A view of the U.S. Capitol Building from the southeast, and a COLD ONE at that.
Twas a cold and windy night…
Basically no wind to create an almost glass like reflection on the pond in front of the Capitol Building at dawn
This was almost a year ago in February, about a month before Covid stopped all fun day trips (and everything else). Little could we see what the next year had in store, and certainly not what is going on today. I am heartbroken, mad, sad, embarrassed, infuriated and confused. (a not so happy) HWW
Life as we know it seems to have faded away. However, I have faith that we will band together to fight this pandemic. It will take time, but I believe things will become clear again! Happy Slider Sunday! The columns were moved from the US Capitol, put in storage, and then installed here.

This is my entry for Flickr's "Your Best Shot 2020".

Saturday's sunrise on the National Mall of the Washington Monument and US Capitol from the Lincoln Memorial. The forecast was for clear skies so I was there to take an equinox sunrise with the sun intersecting the Capitol dome. This very slow moving bank of clouds prevented that shot but presented me with great dawn color behind the Capitol.
Notice that the flag at the Capitol was already half-mast in respect of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I was informed that the flags at the Washington Monument were lowered later that morning after the official proclamation by the White House.
Before sunrise Saturday morning at the US Capitol. I took this a couple of minutes before they turned the tree lights off. I tend to take at least one holiday photo of the Capitol each year. Such a great scene to capture.
Last Tuesday night's just-past full Harvest Moon rising over the U.S. Capitol. Bonus detail: the Session Light in the Tholos was lit since congress was still in session. It's a small detail that I've hoped to capture that with a moon for a long time!
Moon details: Since I was standing over three miles from the Capitol, the moon appeared to be over 150 feet in diameter. For comparison purposes, the Capitol is 288 feet tall to the top of the Statue of Freedom.

Yesterday morning's 8% waning crescent moon rising behind the United States Capitol and the Statue of Freedom.
New camera and old tricks - I'm still doing the moon alignment thing. It's pretty cool when you can setup before moonrise using your plot and then the moon rises to the position you envisioned it would.

Fortunately the rioters have been pushed back, the Capitol is safe and Congress has resumed their responsibility for counting the electoral votes.
This is an HDR merge of a few shots taken from the Washington Monument on Easter morning. In spite of the complete dysfunction inside the structure, it's still quite majestic. I'm hoping for a change in leadership in 2018.
This was during preparations of US Capitol a few days before the Inauguration. And yes, that is ice on top of the water in the reflecting pool! Loved being on work assignment there!
A beautiful Sunset at US Capitol, on a very cold and windy afternoon.
The US Capitol is the home of the United States Congress, and the seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government. It sits atop Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
As always, thanks for stopping by and looking, I appreciate your comments and visits.
