Here is the contents of my computer bits bag. I carry these things to and from work each day as i may well need them. either at home or at work.
I've been searching for a card reader for a while and couldn't find one that I like. They're either too bulky, too flimsy, or too expensive. After the thanksgiving shopping season, I went to Fry's Electronics and picked up this new Humingbird Memory Card Reader for only $20.
This little guy is basically a normal 15-in-one card reader with a cradle that functions also as 3 port USB hub with 4 rubber feet. It's even got a neat LED inside that lights up the unit when it's plugged in. To top it off, it's got a nice coat of powder coated red all over...
And so I went over to my ghetto product shooting table, and thought I'd try something new... and here's the result. I think it glamorizes the card reader pretty well.

Well, I hesitate to admit it (mainly because it makes me feel like a geek of Dilbert-ian proportions), but I have finally "maxed out" my original Belkin 7-port USB hub. Granted, I "cheated" by plugging in the USB-powered desk fan someone got me for our 2007 office Christmas lunch, but I figured I could do with a second hub for those USB devices I haven't got yet (or even one or two which I have)...
It wasn't exactly a life-or-death matter, though, so I left it until one day when I visited our local PC World, and found one of Belkin's other design of USB hub, with two of the seven ports facing upwards (very useful for plugging in a USB flash drive when you don't want to go trying to find a free port round the back of the hub). Something made me go to the customer service desk and ask how much this hub cost (no price tag), and I got the amazing answer of £10 (these originally cost nearly £30). I can only assume they were trying to shift the last units of this design, as Belkin have just brought out a redesigned model.
So, now it's here, working together with the other hub. We're hoping to buy a new desktop computer soon (to replace 'tenchi', which is getting a bit long in the tooth), and I know I'll need a couple more USB ports for devices we'd like to go with it. But more of that in due course...

Use your top drawer as an electronics charging station. With a USB hub, all your small electronics (cameras, iphone, ipod) can be kept safely out of the way while they charge. By lining the drawer with felt, you can avoid nicks and scratches.

also a neat trick. use a shelf or other platform to hold the scanner, printer and the monitor, behind the table, and then you have the entire table are for the feet and chocolates and other crap.
(not forgetting the keyboard, it's in the lap across the legs when ur feet are up)
(not forgetting the mouse, since real computer users don't need to use such crude and slow input device)

Our top drawer in the Vika Furusund unit is converted into a charging station. By not installing the rear panel on the unit, you can run the wires through the space in the back. We lined the bottom with felt so our electronics are kept scratch free.

the frame is a slightly modified IKEA MIKAEL computer table with the keyboard tray lowered to fit stacked items and allow for ventilation.
