May 27, 2019 - For Memorial Day after work, I visited the Field of Honor at Castaways Park in Newport Beach, CA to see and photograph the display of 1,776 U.S. Flags to honor and remember our fallen Heroes on Memorial Day. What a special and meaningful way to spend my Memorial Day evening. God bless America and our Heroes!

Rock Legends Cruise VI ~ w/ Molly Hatchet

Patriotic Southern Rock and Blues Band

Vet-signed US Flag given as a gift by US Veterans

Main deck-stage ~ Day Four ~ 12:15 PM

*[The back-story: Molly Hatchet is a very patriotic band

with strong ties to the USA Military. They always mention

the sacrifices of our men. Two Veterans came on stage

and presented this flag to the band as a form of thanks]

*[On a personal note: I thanked this lead singer while waiting

on the customs-line, getting off the ship. A very firm handshake,

kind smile, and a warm, lovely man! All of the Legends were

patriotic! Many wore US flags during their shows. I must say the expression this band uses with Veteran Respect; "Hell Yeah!"]

*[All proceeds from Rock Legends Cruises go to the Native

American Heritage Association, a non-profit organization

dedicated to fighting hunger and providing basic life necessities

to families living on Reservations in South Dakota, U.S.A.]

For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved

all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.

A portion of the New York Post Office James A. Farley building is being transformed into an extension of Penn Station to be the new home for Amtrak Service.

The 8th Avenue facade with its massive columns was built in 1912.

The project is named after Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the senator who, in the early 1990s, proposed transforming the post office, which sits across Eighth Avenue from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.

Mr. Moynihan, who died in 2003, also viewed the station project as an act of civic redemption, for the demolition in 1963 of the original Beaux-Arts Penn Station.

The American Flag on the walkway to the Golden Gate Bridge, taken in an early morning heavy fog. Seen in Outd oor Photographer Magazine (Unofficial) .

The Circle Line boat tour around Manhattan included a drive-by of Ellis Island.

From Wikipedia:

Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the United States as the nation's busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 until 1954.

The island was greatly expanded with land reclamation between 1892 and 1934. Before that, the much smaller original island was the site of Fort Gibson and later a naval magazine.

The island was made part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1965, and has hosted a museum of immigration since 1990.

Long considered part of New York state, a 1998 United States Supreme Court decision found that most of the island is in New Jersey. The south side of the island, home to the Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital, is closed to the general public and the object of restoration efforts spearheaded by Save Ellis Island.

Deborah Copenhaver’s 1984 bronze Vietnam Veteran's Memorial sculpture in Riverfront Park contains the names of all deceased Vietnam veterans from the Spokane area engraved in the sculpture's pedestal.

The bronze soldier gazing across the park weights 400 pounds and sits atop a 3,400 pound granite base.

Spokane dedicated the piece on November 11, 1985.

From 1955 to 1975, more than 3 million Americans fought in Vietnam. Almost 60,000 U.S. soldiers were killed, and more than 150,000 wounded in combat. 300 casualties were from the Spokane area.

The Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation was created by veterans and community members who wanted to honor veterans with a Veterans Memorial of a quality that would draw visitors from outside the city to see it and remember the service of those in San Luis Obispo County who gave their lives for their country. The Memorial was ready for Dedication on November 8, 2008.

The Memorial has several parts. In the center is a sculpture created by Mark Greenaway. The figure shown at the right is a frontal view of a figure representing a contemporary soldier. He appears on the right end of the statue.

From the left to the right of the front of the statue we see representations soldiers from previous wars with the American Flag as a backdrop. Mark Greenaway, Scuptor. From paso-robles-daily-photos.blogspot.com/2015/05/f-is-for-fa...

941 BOYLSTON:

Built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, this firehouse at 941 Boylston St. opened in February 1888 with Engine 33 and Ladder 15 there from the beginning.

Ladder 15 and Engine 33 sit behind two Romanesque-style archway doors in a classic brownstone and brick building originally built for horse-drawn apparatus.

Ladder 15 was the first horse-drawn tillered ladder truck in the city and also had the first aerial ladder with a turntable.

The Boston Fire Department was founded in 1678 and Engine 33, Ladder 15 is their oldest of 35 active firehouses.

955 BOYLSTON

The police station, 955 Boylston, was home to Boston Police Department Division 16 until 1976.

From 1976 to 2007, the police station was home to the Institute of Contemporary Art; in 2007 it was acquired by Boston Architectural College for $7.22 million.
