With its elegant profile and striking coloration, the American Avocet is unique among North American birds. In summer it can be found in temporary and unpredictable wetlands across western North America where it swings its long upturned bill through the shallow water to catch small invertebrates.
My first visit to the Gibson Steps on the Great Ocean Road was timed to the very last minute for that perfect shot. The tide was in favour and the weather was supposed to be fantastic...supposed to be !! The rain came down in bucket loads. We couldn't see beyond the windscreen and we learned much about the unpredictability of the Melbourne weather! The second trip to GOR was sort of unplanned and just happened and the weatherman decided to smile on us :)
This had been sitting on my bucket list, for a long while. I was thrilled to be able to capture this sunstar, behind Wizard Island. The weather was very unpredictable, with a clouds and snow forecast every day. My first luck was to be able to find a room at the Crater Lake Lodge, which had recently opened after winter closure. Being a light sleeper, I kept looking out the window, every time I woke up during the night, in the hope of seeing some clearing, to have some sun for my sunrise. I also had the bonus luck of capturing some moonlit night images, which I'll post at a later time.

As always, thanks for stopping by and looking, I appreciate your comments and visits.
This was the happiest Hippo that I saw in this bloat/herd 😊. These animals are very sociable and have been known to live in groups of over 100. Best to keep a safe distance from them as they are unpredictable creatures, and will attack with little provocation.
Given its unpredictable temper, the African buffalo is particularly difficult to tame and has never been domesticated like its relative, the Asian water buffalo. Additionally, these animals are considered to be extremely dangerous. They fiercely protect themselves and each other against predators and are known to move in to support another buffalo that is under attack by a lion or other predator. They are very courageous animals.
On a very blustery day in Antarctica, with stormy weather beginning to dominate and with fog on the horizon, the turquoise beauty of an iceberg would be the last such sight for a couple of days. The unpredictability and fierceness of weather in Antartica meant that we would be denied the opportunity to see Neko Harbor and the Lemaire Channel.
Granddaughters Isabel and Matilda among the sunflowers.
A photo-shoot with a 4 year old and 2 year old is very unpredictable. Without a word they both turned and walked off together. I caught the moment and is my favorite photo of the few I managed to get 😍

Her day starts with a coffee
And ends with a wine
Takes forever gettin' ready
So she's never on time for anything
When she gets that come-get-me look in her eyes
Well, it kinda scares me
The way that she drives me wild
And she drives me wild
Beautiful, crazy
She can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances
Ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah, she's crazy
But her crazy's beautiful to me
She makes plans for the weekend
Can't wait to go out
Till she changes her mind
And says, "Let's stay on the couch and watch TV"
And she falls asleep
Beautiful, crazy
She can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances
Ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah, she's crazy
But her crazy's beautiful to me
She's unpredictable, unforgettable
It's unusual, unbelievable
How I'm such a fool
Yeah, I'm such a fool for her
Beautiful, crazy
She can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances
Ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah, she's crazy
She's crazy
She's crazy
But her crazy's beautiful to me
Her crazy's beautiful to me
One of the images that I thought was lost. Rannoch Moor is a magical place: the light and the weather are both totally unpredictable. This was taken on the last day of a 3 day shoot. The other 2 days were washouts! I love this shot with the grasses in the lochan and the reflection of the tough old bush. The misty veils were rising ahead of the sun, which came up behind me. Thanks to Ian Cameron.

We made it here on a kayak and a canoe. It was a tough paddle for 4.5 hours, so we started with the sunrise to bit the unpredictable winds on Lake Maligne, with only one stop for 15 minutes. Do I have big muscles? Nope! You can make it too! We met a few canoeists on the way there, and they were singing “Yellow Submarine” to add to the rhythm of paddling. What a treat and motivational tool to keep paddling!!! We started singing too. I guess, it helps to be determined to get to your destination. It just gets easier!!! Enjoy it!

You plan, you walk the lines the day before when the light is harsh. You book a place to stay that is as near as possible, but still about a 40-minute drive, and is an unheated tepee when the overnight temperatures get down to about 20°F in early June. You wake at 0330 and try to quietly depart the campsite so as not to disturb all the other sane travelers. You drive to the location and find a tour group also arriving at the same time.... but, they are setting up for the straight on shot, which you have seen a thousand times.
You know it's been dark, with few stars, but there are breaks in the clouds as you drive to the location. But, as you set up your gear, you watch in horror as the clouds thicken, a periodic drizzle is an annoyance, because you are already freezing, the winds are gusty, and the updrafts from the mountains stop the clouds in their tracks...right above the scene. The ephemeris data says this is first light...but, there is no sun, there is no horizon to the east, only heavy cloud cover.
Spring in Wyoming. Unpredictable. Frustrating. Exhilarating. Worth it.

Yes it did. We made it there on a kayak and a canoe. You can make it too! We met a few canoeists on the way there, and they were singing “Yellow Submarine” to add to the rhythm of paddling. What a treat and motivational tool to keep paddling!!! That is a typical place where we can find them. The birds are so adept at camouflage that they seamlessly merge with the dry branches. A few times, the bird was close, but I missed it and shot another bird only to realize its presence while reviewing the shots at home.
This is a migrant from Western Europe and a favorite of birders. Unlike birds which are often seen at the same habitat, this bird is unpredictable here and sightings are more luck by chance. One thing we know is that they prefer the dry trees and branches where they forage on looking for insects, termites and spiders.
Thanks in advance for your views and kind feedback.
You can have a plan, but you have to be flexible. Every day is unpredictable, and you just have to go with the flow

I went to check out the local beechwood for fungi with no intention to stay late, the weather was dull and unpredictable. But then decided to stay for a little bit longer at one of my favourite location… Cotswold Way, Lansdown Hill, near Bath. BANES, England, UK.
A most unusual multipletaled deep pink-orange petaled flower that has streaks of yellow. then throughout the year, the flower may show a most unusual yellow solid coloration in the petals contrasting with the pink-orange petals, but most appealing to me is the colors of this.

This was our cruise ship, about 110 passengers and 100 crew members. On that day we had gone out on the Zodiacs to see penguins in one of the islands. Suddenly, the guides panicked because ice started to come in and if we didn't get back to the ship quickly the Zodiacs would not be able to make it through the ice. The weather is very unpredictable, but the guides are on top of it.

The sea enchants, the sea kills, moves, frightens, even makes you laugh, sometimes, it disappears, every now and then, it disguises itself as a lake, or it builds storms, devours ships, gives riches, does not give answers, it is wise, it is sweet, it is powerful, it is unpredictable.
Loughareema (also Loughaveema, Vanishing lake, in Irish loch in Mhadhma) in the north-east of Northern Ireland is a small lake, periodically, but unpredictable drained.
The phenomenon is valid as for Europe incredibly. The lake unconventional in certain manner lies directly with road close Ballycastle. Sometimes becomes the road for the quiet waters floods, because astonishing-wise the street leads to Ballycastle briefly directly through the lake.
The inhabitants of the area „whisper with a wink“ that even once the foreign road construction engineers could be "tricked" by the lake.
Reason for the unusual phenomenon is that the lake is on a "leaking" chalk bed. If the drain holes with for example peat are blocked, the water cannot run off in the subsoil and gathers again to a lake.
This passes with strong rainfall how these seem in Ireland not seldom, quite quickly – and as abruptly the lake disappears again, as soon as one the described peat to "stoppers" is not thick any more.
The mallard seems to think I'm getting too close so I did move off for sure. While they do take food from humans they are in the wild and unpredictable. Near St.John's, NL, Canada.

Palácio da Pena is a castle in Sintra, built in mid-XIX c. on the ruins of a medieval convent. It is one of the most important examples of Romanticism style in architecture. The pronounced and unpredictable eclecticism of the castle and exaggerated ornamentation makes is a very memorable place to visit.
The as yet slightly unknown factor of Smudge Air adds a spice of unpredictability ... you know he'll get there, extremely fast and in some kind of fashion and style :)

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a blue day at Color my World Daily we celebrate Spirals at Looking Close on Friday. I had a hard time to find a concept for this theme… I had many ideas but not enough time … So I decided on this one: a blue paper spiral and my tiny blue pencil. Very simple in theory but rather time consuming to set up. Who knew that paper spirals are so stubborn and difficult to work with ?? I hope you will like it.
I’m on vacation with my two sons, my days are very much like this spiral (very unpredictable and fast !!) and my schedule is very hectic. I apologize in advance for being on and off for the next few days…. I will try to publish every day but I might not being able to answer all of your comments. Stay well and safe !!
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! Have a beautiful day my friends !! See you later!!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !!
when lighting...wonderful!

Finally got a flight pose I was satisfied with yesterday evening. Figured I'd post one since I hadn't. These owls have such a long wingspan you hope you don't clip their wings on the take off.I did get a nice take off from the perch as well. So glad he finally came out in the best light. He is very unpredictable when he decides to come out nowadays.
As the weather has changed for the worst here in Berlin, and I am guessing the Summer that never really was is now over, I have been stuck indoors, so trawling through the historical photos I remembered I took this one not long ago, I am actually a bit stuck for new material as getting out is difficult with the constant unpredictable rain here, as well as the fact, I hate the cold! So here is some pink things, much pink as there was.
I hope everyone is well and so as always thank you! :)

«The seeming nothingness of fog speaks to the mystery in all things. » (John Burnside)
____________
A sea of fog* covered the immense valley in a few minutes, in a strange silence...
A deafening silence that amplified the incessant cries of a flight of migrating Canada geese, passing by, in the early morning.
An unpredictable fog, coming from nowhere, cold, imperious and sovereign.
It seemed to me that there was much more to say and feel about this scene than what the reason and science can tell us about the water molecules gliding rapidly ahead of me…
In fact, I felt in my place, at home, admiring the mysterious beauty of this sovereign nature.

On this beautiful sunny day in the Bay Area, a bank of thick low clouds suddenly developed and created some interesting light.
Sorry I've been quite busy and distracted lately, and when I had time for Flickr, it often froze or slowed to a crawl, making it very difficult to view photos! Not sure what's happening with their systems lately...
Thank you for your visit; please stay cool and hydrated, dear Flickr friends!😘😘😘
This is a small colorful bird and a winter migrant from Central Asia to India. They along with the Black-Headed Buntings arrive in 100's of 1000's to India to the countryside and make up for some very beautiful morning views.
The birds are drawn to the Paddy fields in the countryside and their peak arrival times often coincide with the harvest season where the grains are dried up openly before they are sent off to the rice mills. This year the numbers are still low in my view due to some heavy unpredictable rains during the migration period. So the birds arrival was a bit too early for the second sowing which happens in January. So far, I sighted maybe around 50-70 of them in various places, compared to a much larger number around this time. As always, the birds were happily enjoying the abundant food they have at their disposal - grain that is impossible to pick up strewn on the dirt roads next to the fields.
Thanks in advance for your kind views and feedback. Much appreciated.
Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, aka Peggy's Point Lighthouse (built in 1915), is one of Nova Scotia’s most well-known and photographed lighthouses in Canada. It's located in the quaint fishing village of Peggy’s Cove along the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
Visitors were reminded to exercise caution at all times, as the ocean water around Peggy’s cove was dangerous. Rogue waves (unpredictable & rough) commonly splash up over the rocks, even on calm, sunny days. Must avoid the wet (slipery) rocks, no swimming and only walk on dry rocks.
With all these precautions in mind, it was a bit nervous wrecking walking on the rocks to search for interesting shooting angles because as the sun faded, the rocks looked darker.
Dark rocks meant wet, white rocks meant dry, but how could you tell once it got dark?!? 🤔🤔🤔
Wishing you a fun-filled weekend, dear photography friends!!! 💕😘
Cook Strait is a strait that separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand. It connects the Tasman Sea on the northwest with the South Pacific Ocean on the southeast, and runs next to the capital city, Wellington. It is 22 kilometres wide at its narrowest point, and is considered one of the most dangerous and unpredictable waters in the world. The strait is named after James Cook, the first European commander to sail through it, in 1770.

For a long time I thought that swallows are too fast and unpredictable for me to shoot in flight. Then I realized that they often hover around their nests. That makes them a little easier to capture. I'm still learning.
