Spring Soliloquy

Upper Snoqualmie River, North Bend, Washington

I have more Hawai'i photos still to post, but I thought I would intersperse the sunrises and sunsets with something taken closer to home on a hike this weekend.

Spring hiking for me is primarily lower elevation forests, rivers, and waterfalls, as the high mountains are still buried under snow and avalanche conditions are frequently unpredictable. So it is a season for my eyes to revel in the vibrant shades of green everywhere, and for my ears to remember how beautiful the sounds of rushing water can be.

On Saturday I hiked the Twin Falls trail, which follows the Snoqualmie River for much of the way and has some side trails to scramble down for access to the river bank. This time of year the water flow is usually low enough that there are rocks and sandy areas exposed where one can sit in solitude to let the mind flow with the river and listen as it sings its soliloquy.
