Returning after visiting the Shrine. WE had to climb over 1000 steps to reach the Shrine situate in mountain top. The steps are cut and formed on glaciers. Very slippery and slide due to heavy human traffic. Fortunately we took our helpers along with us right upto the shrine. they gave a helping hand and when need arise gave a push from the back.. Yet it was most demanding and tiring climb. Totally exhausted we wanted to make the journey by Helicopter, Could not get seats. So used the same method for return journey too.

Good Friday, also called Holy Friday, Black Friday, Great Friday, is a holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, his death at Calvary, and his Resurrection from the grave [he is risen]. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and often coincides with the Jewish observance of Passover.

Based on the scriptural details[citation needed] of the Sanhedrin Trial of Jesus, the Crucifixion of Jesus was most probably on a Friday. The estimated year of Good Friday is AD 33, by two different groups, and originally as AD 34 by Isaac Newton via the differences between the Biblical and Julian calendars and the crescent of the moon.[1][2][3][4][5][6] A third method, using a completely different astronomical approach based on a lunar Crucifixion darkness and eclipse model (consistent with Apostle Peter's reference to a "moon of blood" in Acts 2:20) arrives at the same date, namely Friday April 3, AD 33.[7][8]

There is a talk that cracks appear in the super structure of the magnificent and majestic tower. Opinion from experts differs. It is not too late, let concerned people show some urgency and do something about it.

MAY THIS VALENTINE'S DAY MEMORIES LINGER SWEETLY FOR EVER.

For above all things Love means friendship and truth, loyalty to the loved one and to your word. And because of this I dare not meddle with so high a matter.

In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of warmthness which derives pleasure. In the dew of many little things the hearts will find their moorings refreshed and bouncing with Joy. Work Hard to Let the Joy remain for ever.

The most famous is/was the "BOLT" castle.

A genuine castle that was 3/4 complete including a miniature castle with a stage and auditorium for the daughter to "play"..on stage etc.

Mrs. Bolt died suddenly anf the castle was abandoned. It was a huge draw for the tourist industry. I have not been back there since 1963 and am tokd it was funded and completed some 20 years after.

In any event it is worth the money and time to visit while there at Thousand Islands tourist center.

At 3.A.M. when the world sleeps, on a wet, chill, dark night, a group of pilgrims commence their arduous journey from Baltaal Camp towards Amarnath cave situate in an altitude of over 14,000 feet on an ice peaked and packed mountain in Himalayas. Most of them walk, some of them ride pony, and many sit on a dangling chair carried by four men. We preferred the last one.

See the tiny toddler on the lap of his father, preferred the second choice.

FOUR SIDES OF TOWER IS ADORNED WITH SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSANDS OF FIGURINES, TELLING STORIES FROM LEGENDS, MYTH AND HINDU SCRIPTURES.

An ancient temple at the sea coast of Tiruchendur, in the eastern coast of south India.

This one annual pilgrimage we never miss. A massive and sprawling structure built with several centuries ago and pounded continuously by strong waves is a favorite pilgrimage place for all those believe in Hindu faith. For us, visiting this place is like home coming, closer to our native place and frequented during childhood days and thus have special attachment with this Holy place.

Photography inside the temple is prohibited.

There are several hundred thousand statutues and figurines and built in the four sided of the temple tower.

With Greetings on this auspicious night of 'SHIV RATRI'

I am Paul, the overworked octopus, too many predictions, all guess work and gas work. I am tired, removed my hat and resting in the attic. I was a busy bee pridicting foot ball winners.

"It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business."

~ Mohandas K. Gandhi

A simple difference in the way we lead our life, our religion and our society should not bring in a big difference in the way we love our country or the way we treat humanity. For humanity is one undivided and indivisible family.

'Be the difference' for people and don't create the difference among people! Happy Republic day!

The Lotus Temple, located in New Delhi, India, is a Bahá'í House of Worship completed in 1986. Notable for its flowerlike shape, it serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent and has become a prominent attraction in the city. The Bahá'í laws emphasize that the spirit of the House of Worship be that it is a gathering place where people of all religions may worship God without denominational restrictions.

Inspired by the lotus flower, the design for the House of Worship in New Delhi is composed of 27 free-standing marble clad "petals" arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides. The nine doors of the Lotus Temple open onto a central hall slightly more than 40 meters tall that is capable of holding up to 2,500 people. The surface of the House of Worship is made of white marble from Penteli mountain in Greece, the very same from which many ancient monuments and other Bahá'í Houses of Worship are built. Along with its nine surrounding ponds and the gardens, the Lotus Temple property comprises of about 26 acres. ~~ Wikipedia

A blooming beauty, at home

These refugee camps once housed millions of Afghans who fled after the Soviet invasion in 1979. The camps are massive and houses hundreds and thousands if not millions of people.

Some of the Afghans started returning after 2002, when the Taliban government fell.

The War on Terror was a reponse to the attack on the Twin Towers in New York on September 11, 2001. It changed the global scenario completely. George Bush Junior and his team wanted revenge and they got that by toppling the Taliban government in late 2001.

It did not end there. The Taliban started a guerilla warfare and many of them were pushed into the autonomous tribal belt of Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan. The tribes spoke the same language as the majority of the Taliban so they fit in well.

America and its puppet government led by Hamid Karzai complained that militants were crossing from Pakistan and attacking, then going back.

The Pakistani government led by Musharaf at the time did not take full action against the militants. They eventually became stronger and challenged the writ of the state in a number of north-western areas.

Public opinion against the Taliban in Pakistan was also turning. Pakistani intelligence organisations supported right-wing Islamic groups in Afghanistan as they were generally more pro-Pakistan. The current Afghan government is considered pro-India, Pakistan's arch rival.

The Taliban in Pakistan made some deals with the government but it began go back on its word and committed many human rights abuses.

Eventually it was not long before the Taliban tried to spread to other areas where most people did not accept them. This prompted the government and the army to take action against them and take control of the areas which had been taken over by the Taliban. Army action in the districts of Buner, Swat, Malakand, Dir and Bajaur led to millions of people fleeing their homes to other parts of the country. Most settled in nearby districts but some have travelled very far to be with relations.

These Internally Displaced People have a long road a head of them. In the short term most are not having their basic needs fulfilled. In the long-term the people will suffer because their properties will have been damaged, their livelihoods will have been disturbed and within the camps they will be exposed to all sorts of diseases.

Most of these people just wanted peace and being from poor backgrounds they want a decent income just to be able to feed their families. They are the real, silent victims of the War on Terror. They have been the ones to suffer the most because of the constant interference in this region by outside superpowers and lesser regional powers.

I hope people can donate some money to this very needy cause. We need to show them that they are not forgotten about and that one of them is just as equal a person to a life lost in 9/11.

This image was taken at Boombana in a magnificent rainforest. The ferns here were just beautfiul and some were massive, maybe 20 feet across the span of the branches.

Boombana is in the D'Aguilier range. .

Prior to European occupation (read invasion), this and every part of the land we now call Australia was occupied by what we now call Aboriginal people (See profile for an overview of this history).

INDIGENOUS HISTORY

Nature is not always “awesome” to look at, but I felt a strong sense of awe at the majesty of this rainforest, the history and the respect the Indigenous people showed this land before white “settlers” came along and chopped the place up in the name of the modernist project and the endless needs of “civilised people”. The Indigenous population was reduced to 143 people on Mount Nebo in a 1900s census. Today there is an Indigenous Art Gallery and a few residents. Boombana is a section of Mount Nebo, a mountain approximately 28km north of the Brisbane suburb of The Gap in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the D'Aguilar Range.

Sacred country

D’Aguilar Range is important to a number of Indigenous Aboriginal groups and contains significant cultural values. Sites recorded to date include artefact scatters, bora rings, dreaming trails and walking tracks. The bora rings situated around the foothills of the D’Aguilar Range suggest that the mountains were and still are of spiritual significance to the traditional owners of the land.

A changing land

The first Europeans to enter the D’Aguilar Range area were timber-getters and gold prospectors in the 1860s. Much of the valley country either side of D’Aguilar Range was then cleared and farmed. The gold mines produced very little gold and were of little significance in the overall Queensland gold production. Remains of gold mine shafts can still be seen in the park today.

Protecting heritage

The earliest timber reserves were gazetted in 1918 and extensive logging of hardwoods took place after World War II. In 1930, Maiala National Park was declared – the first national park in the Mt Glorious area. Declaration of other national parks followed, including Jolly’s Lookout (1938), Manorina (1949) and Boombana (1950). McAfee’s and Camp Mountain lookouts were constructed in the 1970s.

Of course the experiences of Indigenous – European interactions were not homogenous nor were the attitudes each Indigenous group took towards European ‘settlers’ and visa versa. The overall story was not good for Indigenous people, but simplistic accounts of adversarial conflict and a will to wipe out the Indigenous community are simply false. I recommend reading The Australian People (edited by James Jupp). This account gives a reasonably balanced view from a historians perspective. See the link below to order this book.
