Disappeared Quipu is a poem in space-a time-based work in dialogue with historical quipus ("knot"in Quechua).

For millennia ancient people's of the Andes created quipus:complex record- keeping devices that served as an essential medium for reading and writing,registering and remembering,through an intricate system of knot making.In a career spanning five decades the artist, poet,and filmmaker Cecelia Vicuña has transformed the rich cultural legacies of the Andean region,reimagining the historical within jet contemporary practice.With feminism as a unifying theme and her ongoing series of work called Precarious (Precario) as a conceptual precursor,she explores the shifting nature of language and memory;the resilience of native people in the face of repression;and her own experiences,living in exile from her native Chile,following the military coup of 1973.

Vicuña has devoted a significant part of her artistic practice studying,interpreting,and reactivating the multidimensional potential of the quipu and it's ritual aspect,banned by the Spanish during their colonization of South America.Drawing from her indigenous heritage she creates installations and transformative ritual performances address issues of homogenization,ecological disasters,and human rights.Disappeared Quipu is part of decades-long explorations that often includes activation by the artist,in which she moves,alone or with others,among the fibers and knotted strands of the work,linking movement,sound and material to enact a physical relationship with the legacy embodied by the quipu.For Vicuña each knot of her "quipus for the future"bears witness to the connection and collective and expressive capacities of a language largely lost to history.

Created specially for this project calls attention to the disappearance of knowledge through the loss of a complex,ancient textile tradition.Vicuña's work links people of the past,present,and future in a collective art of resistance and remembrance celebrating the centuries long cultural legacy of the Andean people.

I woke up this morning to the news that Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) had directed workers to prepare for a revolt.

The consitution is due (again) on 28 May and basically Prachanda has said that if the right wing parties continue blocking the process and that the Seven Point plan is not seen through, then revolution will be the result.

Events in North Africa are no doubt helping fuel this thinking but since the end of the People's War in 2006, Nepal has stalled, corruption has increased, the country is in a bad way...

I sit here slightly incredulous at the situation. As western tourists tread along the trekking trails, blissfully unaware of the real situation...and the local people deal with a fragmented "government", electricity cuts get longer, tensions are rising...

There is a saying here "What to do?"

"In the 1840s, New York City's elite established Washington Square, far from the increasingly commercial environment of Lower Manhattan, as the address of choice. Anchored by the mansion of William C. Rhinelander at the center of Washington Square North, "the Row" of Greek Revival town houses on either side of Fifth Avenue presented the unified and dignified appearance of privilege. When the center of New York City society moved north after the American Civil War, the houses on the square came to represent the gentility of a bygone age. Henry James, whose grandmother lived at 18 Washington Square North, depicted this nostalgic view in his 1880 tragicomedic novel, Washington Square. Today, the buildings all belong to New York University.

The 1830s row house at 1–3 Washington Square North may be the house in the city most closely associated with a single artist. From 1913 until his death in May 1967, the artist Edward Hopper and his wife, Josephine, lived in a studio on the building's top floor. Chosen for its low rent and the artist's belief that his hero, the American artist Thomas Eakins had painted there, Hopper and his wife leased rooms that lacked central heat or private baths. They decorated their rooms simply, with pieces of early American furniture.

Greenwich Village (/ˈɡrɛnɪtʃ/ GREN-itch, /ˈɡrɪn-/ GRIN-, /-ɪdʒ/ -ij) is a neighborhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan in New York City, bounded by 14th Street to the north, Broadway to the east, Houston Street to the south, and the Hudson River to the west. Greenwich Village also contains several subsections, including the West Village west of Seventh Avenue and the Meatpacking District in the northwest corner of Greenwich Village.

Its name comes from Groenwijck, Dutch for "Green District". The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.
