The national holiday of Romania, the Union Day (also called Unification Day) occurring on December 1, celebrate the assembly of the delegates of ethnic Romanians held in Alba Iulia, which declared the Union of Transilvania with Romania.
This holiday, set after the 1989 Romanian Revolution, marks the unification not only of Transilvania, but also of the provinces of Banat, Basarabia and Bucovina with the Romanian Kingdom, in 1918, the Union of Transilvania with Romania being the last event, sealing the unification of the country.
Országház, Budapest, Hungary
After the unification of Budapest into a single city in 1873, the diet sought to establish a symbolic parliament building in order to celebrate the Hungarian nation. The result was the Országház, or the ‘House of the Nation’, which was eventually finished in 1904. Sadly, the architect, Imre Steindl, never got to see his work; he lost his sight before its construction. This photograph was taken on a clear winter’s eve in November 2016, from the opposite bank of the Danube.
Berlin's Reichstag building. Looking down from the dome through the glass-panelled roof of the government chambers - the Bundestag - where the elected representatives are visible to all .Apparently this design feature was a deliberate architectural metaphor for a visible and accountable government in a new Germany after unification.
"...unification is approached by inviting the eye to travel over the complicated surface exhaustively, rather than inviting it to settle on the whole first and then explore certain details."

Texas. The “Lone Star State”. The nickname was made notable by the single star on the state flag. And, the flag of Texas is a resounding symbol of the history of Texas. It is a symbol of how hard they had to fight for their land. That they would make the great sacrifice like at the Alamo. It makes sense that Texas is the only state whose flag once belonged to a sovereign country.
The flag of Texas also has an incredible history...a history quite unlike any other state. Over the years Texas has been under the rule of six different countries. Over the years of fighting and hardship, Texas has come to have an identity of its own and that can be seen in the colors of the Flag. In 1839, the Congress of Texas voted to change the colors of the flag from a yellow star in the middle of a dark blue background to what we see today. Today's flag has a single white star on the left-hand side in the middle of a blue bar. There are two horizontal bars on the right the top being white and bottom being red. While these colors do match that of the United States, it is said that the blue stands for loyalty, the red for bravery, and the white for purity.
When one first hears the word Texas, their minds automatically go to the flag and the 'lone star', but what does it mean exactly? As everyone knows, Texans are very proud people. Given the history of Texas it is not hard to recognize why they are so proud. Just like the U.S. flag, the stars stand for all the states standing together under one country, and the lone star stands for the unification and the solidarity of the people of Texas under “God, state, and country”.
The creation of the “Lone Star” flag of Texas is shrouded in mystery. The most common theory is that the flag design was suggested by Texas Republic interim president David Burnet and designed by Austin artist Peter Krag for $10. The design was approved on January 25, 1839, and signed by Mirabeau Lamar, President of the Republic of Texas.

The arched stone bridge at frame right is the Arlington Memorial Bridge, originally constructed in 1932. Connecting the Lincoln Memorial with the Arlington House (General Robert E. Lee's historical home), the Arlington Memorial Bridge was intentionally designed and located to be representative of the unification between the North and the South following the Civil War.
As of 2015 the bridge has been facing a number of problems, with lane closures and newly dictated weight limits the result of multiple inspections finding badly corroded steel within portions of the structure. The repairs will take hundreds of millions and span the course of several years.

The Whirling Rainbow – Prophecy
There will come a day when people of all races, colors, and creeds will put aside their differences. They will come together in love, joining hands in unification, to heal the Earth and all Her children. They will move over the Earth like a great Whirling Rainbow, bringing peace, understanding and healing everywhere they go. Many creatures thought to be extinct or mythical will resurface at this time; the great trees that perished will return almost overnight. All living things will flourish, drawing sustenance from the breast of our Mother, the Earth.
The great spiritual Teachers who walked the Earth and taught the basics of the truths of the Whirling Rainbow Prophecy will return and walk amongst us once more, sharing their power and understanding with all. We will learn how to see and hear in a sacred manner. Men and women will be equals in the way Creator intended them to be; all children will be safe anywhere they want to go. Elders will be respected and valued for their contributions to life. Their wisdom will be sought out. The whole Human race will be called The People and there will be no more war, sickness or hunger forever.

Before the unification of the Netherlands, Oudewater (or Old Water) was situated right on the border of historic Holland and Utrecht. The origins of the town and its name are largely unknown, but records show that the town gained city rights in 1265, given by the bishop of Utrecht, Hendrik van Vianden. Its location on the confluence of the Linschoten river and the Hollandse IJssel allowed Oudewater to develop as an important industrial center in the 16th and 17th century, with the production of rope being the main economic activity.
Haraldshaugen is a national monument in Haugesund, Norway. The monument was erected during the millennial celebration of Norway's unification into one kingdom under the rule of King Harald I of Norway (Norwegian: Harald Hårfagre).
Haraldshaugen commemorates the Battle of Hafrsfjord which commonly dates to the year 872. The Battle of Hafrsfjord has traditionally been regarded as the point in which western Norway was for the first time unified under one monarch. Haraldshaugen has been stated to be the burial site of King Harald I, who died circa 933 at Avaldsnes on nearby Karmøy, south of Haugesund.
Haraldshaugen was unveiled on July 18, 1872 by Crown Prince Oscar (later King Oscar II of Sweden) in connection with the one thousand year anniversary of the Battle of Hafrsfjord. The monument is designed by Norwegian architect Christian Christie. Norwegian national poet, Ivar Aasen, wrote a poem entitled Haraldshaugen to commemorate the event.
Haraldshaugen is located in the northern suburbs of Haugesund. The monument consists of a large mound surrounded by a granite memorial stones with 29 smaller stones, one from each of the historic counties of Norway. At the top of the mound stands a 17m high granite main obelisk, with four bronze panels around the base. Each panel depicts important scenes from the life of King Harald I.

"In Rome we are and here we will stay." Vittorio Emanuele II.
In 1815 it would begin in Italy the long process of unification of the Transalpine country, known in Italian as "Il Risorgimento". At that time, what we now know as Italy, was a territory divided into numerous states, some of which were controlled by foreign powers such as the Austrian Empire. However, many Italians clung to the nationalist ideas of the time to develop a social and political movement that would lead to the creation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1871, when Rome finally became the capital of unified Italy.
To commemorate the figure of Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of that unified Italy, it was decided to build a monument in Rome reminiscent of the grandeur of the buildings of the ancient Roman Empire. The imposing structure, with its characteristic white marble, is located next to the Capitoline Hill and dominates one of the sides of the central Piazza Venezia. Despite having been criticized by part of the population of the city, receiving nicknames such as "typewriter" or "wedding cake", it is today one of the most famous monuments in Rome and its visit is interesting, as it houses the Museum of the Risorgimento and from its upper terrace there is a spectacular 360 degree view of the eternal city.
My favorite view of the monument is precisely from Piazza Venezia, adding the Italian flag of flowers and bush, and the lights of the intense Roman traffic. All this with the extra beauty of artificial lighting and the magical balance with the ambient light that is achieved at the blue hour.

"En Roma estamos y aquí nos quedaremos." Vittorio Emanuele II.

Castello di Montalto Dora , Chiaverano (To), Piemonte, Italia
The Montalto Dora Castle gazed at centuries of history, from the Savoy to the Spanish, the French to the Germans, suffering numerous attacks by invaders, living the troubled Napoleonic period and savoring the long-awaited peace through the unification of Italy.
Its construction is attributed to the first half of the XII century , as evidenced by a document dated 1140, in which it is mentioned as “Castrum Montisalti”, belonging to the jurisdiction of Ivrea City’s Bishop.
The manor has been owned by multiple lineages.
In the XIV century it became part of the possessions of Savoy, who in 1403 sold it to De Jordanis of Bard family, who carried on with the construction.
Among the various attacks, we must remember the one that occurred during the siege of Ivrea in 1641, by the French troops of the Marquis d’ Harcourt, in the war against the Duchy of Savoy.
On that occasion the interior of the manor was dismantled, while external structures remained almost intact.
At the beginning of the XVIII century the castle passed to the Vallesa family, who owned it until the early XIX century, when the lineage ended.
It later belonged to the Count Severino of the Barons of Casana, who began to restore and enhance it.
In the early1900 an important study on the castle’s restoration was accomplished by Dr. Carlo Nigra, an engineer, together with the portoguese architect Alfredo d’Andrade, creator of the Turin “Borgo Medievale” (an accurate reconstruction of a medieval village in the city centre).
In 1963 the Castle became property of the Allioni of Brondello family. From 1965 to 1985 they proceeded to restore the buildings inside the walls, and to enhance the park.

Osaka Castle is a Japanese castle in Osaka, Japan. The castle is one of Japan's most famous landmarks. It played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century of the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
The castle was built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It was in use from 1583 till 1868. It was destroyed in 1868 and restored in 1928. Again it was destroyed in 1945 and restored from 1995 till 1997.
The main tower of Osaka Castle is situated on a plot of land (roughly one square kilometer).
It is built on two raised platforms of landfill supported by sheer walls of cut rock, using a technique called Burdock piling, each overlooking a moat.
The central castle building is five stories on the outside and eight stories on the inside, and built atop a tall stone foundation to protect its occupants from attackers.
The castles grounds cover approximately 60,000 square meters (15 acres). It contain thirteen structures that have been designated as important cultural assets by the Japanese government.

This is a scene of the Italian unification which lasted from 1815-1871. In the struggle to unite the Italian peninsula the Italians fought many enemies such as the Austrian empire (seen here) and the Papal states of the catholic church. The unification was pushed by Sardinia and nationalism spread throughout the peninsula. In 1861 after much success the kingdom of Italy was founded. Soon the Austrians would be pushed out. By 1870 they had captured the city of Rome from the Papal States which left the Pope infuriated. By 1871 the nation of Italy was born.
The scene here is from the Third War of Italian independence. Shows Italian militia forces fighting the Austrians.
The figure holding the flag is supposed to be a more Italian version of me and the figure in the dark green is Tobias.

Great Union Day (Romanian: Ziua Marii Uniri, also called Unification Day) occurring on December 1, is the national holiday of Romania. It commemorates the assembly of the delegates of ethnic Romanians held in Alba Iulia, which declared the Union of Transylvania with Romania.
This holiday was set after the Romanian Revolution (1989) and it marks the unification of Transylvania, but also of the provinces of Bessarabia and Bukovina with the Romanian Kingdom, in 1918.
Prior to 1948 (Communist era), the national holiday of Romania was set to be on May 10, which had a double meaning: it was the day on which Carol I set foot on the Romanian soil (in 1866), and it was the day on which the prince ratified the Declaration of Independence (from the Ottoman Empire) in 1877.
