Launched in 1824 HMS Unicorn is the oldest ship in Scotland and one of the six oldest ships in the world. It was originally constructed as a 46 gun frigate at Chatham Royal Dockyard in England and arrived in Dundee in 1873 as a training ship for the Royal Naval Reserves, a role she carried out until the 1960s.
The Unicorn was handed over to the Unicorn Preservation Society in 1968 and opened to the public in 1975.
There are plans to move the ship to dry dock for necessary restoration and preservation after £1.11m in funding was very recently secured.
It would be nice if this work could be completed in time for HMS Unicorn's 200th birthday in 2024.
This unusual cloud looks very much like a Unicorn, that mythical animal typically represented as a horse with a single straight horn projecting from its forehead.
This scene is north of Wilpena pound in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia and was captured some 20 hours before a dust storm visited the area. The forecast was for a severe dust storm and the next day there were more unusual cloud formations which were swirling about as they constantly rose and fell - I had never seen anything like it before.
As my daughter was flying into Port Augusta to join me for a few days, I drove from Wilpena Pound and by the time I arrived at Port Augusta visibility was down to about four kilometres with very strong gusting wind.
There were concerns her plane might have to return to Adelaide but fortunately it landed and within 30 minutes visibility had decreased to two kilometres. It was an extremely unpleasant day - hot, windy and dusty. . . . . .Sigma 18 -200mm f3.5 -6.3 DC OS HSM

I really enjoyed writing this poem, because even if they aren't, I feel that Amish horses don't look happy. Hope you like the poem.
Elsie knew the routine of work,
the rhythm of the reins;
the reverent silence of Sunday mornings
and the scent of sun-warmed leather.
But at dusk, as the lanterns flickered,
Elsie dreamed.
Of a place where hooves pounded opal clouds,
and fences melted into the mist;
where her tail glittered with stardust ✨
and her bridle had no bit. She felt so free.
She galloped alongside unicorns
whose horns sang songs to the starry sky,
whose gait knew no bounds of field or faith, only freedom, wild and bright.
At dawn, she awoke to a breeze,
and in it, a whisper:
"Not all dreams are destined to go astray"
and Elsie knew there was hope.
