This is one of my favourite places to walk in Newcastle and links the park trails to the Quayside, a place where magnificent engineering is exposed to some of our less than creative urban artists. HSS!

The Antwerp Central Station, also known as Middenstatie (Middle station) or Spoorwegkathedraal (Railroad Cathedral), was first used in 1905. The structure is made up from a steel platform covering and a stone station building in an eclectic style. Recently, the station was completely renovated and in 2007 a tunnel underneath the station and a part of Antwerp was opened, reverting the station’s status as a terminus where are all trains have to turn back. In 2009, the American magazine Newsweek chose the Antwerp Central Station as the fourth most beautiful train station in the world.
A kind of funny story....I had my CPL filter and 10 stop filter on my lens when I took this shot. They are both made by Breakthrough Photography, so fit together well. Too well, apparently. When I tried to unscrew them and take them apart, they came off together. Nothing I did could get them apart. Finally, I went to my local camera store, and they couldn't get them apart either. I asked if they had a filter wrench, and no, they did not. They recommended I take the filters to a camera repair store about 30 minutes away. I thanked them, took the filters back, and immediately, they just slid apart. We all had to laugh, and the camera store guy said, "That will be $75!" :) Go figure!
Do any of you have a special technique for when filters get stuck to each other?
It just so happens that Chicago fogginess on a quiet midnight walk reveals a certain kind of clarity.

Underneath, where the dark things dwell. Amongst the pilings and the murky water they lurk, waiting for those who have the courage to seek them out. It is our courage that renders them harmless, and gives them beauty.

Lots of bunny tracks around here this morning. They seem to know when there is no dog around. I'm always amazed by the abundance of wildlife outside my door. Too bad it wasn't wearing a white winter coat but it still cheered me up, nonetheless. I had a bad morning getting stuck in a swamp with my skidoo, the new snow and ice disguised the water underneath. I swear I have a permanent black cloud over my head.
It was as if this bunny was saying "Listen Up, don't think you are eating me for Easter" It sure got fat off all the oats my horses left behind this winter. I do eat bunnies this time of year but it is the white chocolate ones ;-)
Just after the sunset, the eastern sky was taking on the glow (the belt of Venus) with the dark band (Earth's shadow) underneath. The silhouetted tree on the right was Cerasus leveilleana (‘Kasumi-zakura’ in Japanese), which was about to shed its autumn leaves.

Did anyone tell you
that in each subway train
there is one special seat
with a small hole in it
and underneath the seat
is a tank of piranha-fish
which have not been fed
for quite some time.
The fish become quite agitated
by the shoogling of the train
and jump up through the seat.
The resulting skeletons
of unlucky passengers
turn an honest penny
for the transport executive,
hanging far and wide
in medical schools.

A shadowy waterfall on the Wallkill River, New York. Many streams in the area have a name ending in kill which comes from the early Dutch settlers. Their word "kille" referred to a water channel or riverbed.
Looking north across the Parramatta River to Meadowbank, in western Sydney. Photographed at sunset from amid the mangroves at John Whitton Reserve (Mill Park) Rhodes. The bridge above (on the right) is the John Whitton Bridge built in 1886.
The other bridge (on the left) is the more modern railway crossing of the Parramatta River. They both allow the T9 Main Northern Railway Line to cross the river.
