Author: Griffin, Gerald
Title: Suil Dhuv, the Coiner
Publisher: George Newnes Limited
Publication Date: 1896-1899
URL: catalog.library.ucla.edu/vwebv/search?searchArg=newnes+pe...
Notes:
Newnes' Penny Library of Famous Books were published weekly between 1896 and 1899. The series mostly consisted of reprints of works by important nineteenth-century authors and served as a sort of cultural counterbalance to the authors and content of the "penny dreadfuls." Most of the paperbacks include cover images; however, these images are not colorful like the majority of hardcover yellowbacks. Sadleir included this series of books in his collection largely because of titles that it includes which reflects nineteenth-century literary canon formation and the survival power of certain novels (Sadleir 61).
