Whilst there, I had the chance to take quite a few pictures, some of them which I liked more than the others, and uploaded here, into my flickr account.

A few weeks back today, when I was working on post-process for one of those, I decided to have a further reading about the bridge in oder to figure out some ideas for the picture title: it's history, architecture and appeal as an iconic landmark from the lovely city of San Francisco... I ended up calling it "The Golden Gate Bridge". What else?

In my investigation, I've learned some trivia which I wasn't aware of... and, definitely, the fact that touched myself the most was to find out that «the Golden Gate Bridge is the most popular place to commit suicide in the entire world» - which really came as a surprise for me.

But then I decided to go further and found there was already a 2006 documentary film which brought the attention around this fact into the spotlight, based on an article by Tad Friend from the New Yorker magazine, published in 2003. I wasn't aware of none of these.

Then, a few days back from now, I saw the movie and found it quite interesting... perhaps shocking would be the right word; I really can't tell you how it touched myself.

Now I'm aware of something which I wasn't aware of in the past and wanted to share it with you, my dear reader, hoping you don't find it disturbing but enlightening, as I do. Or "a positive influence", as former jumper Kevin Hines found it when the film was premiered.

(Fortunately there are currently a few initiatives to save the lifes of those 'jumpers' from the bridge and other trying to make the Golden Gate a safer place, for all.)

El pasado 26 de Agosto de 2010 tuve la ocasión de caminar a lo largo de toda la extensión del Puente Golden Gate, por primera vez en mi vida. Y me encantó =)

Allí tuve la oportunidad de hacer unas cuantas fotografías, algunas de ellas me gustaron más que otras y he subido aquí, en mi cuenta de flickr.

Hace unas semanas, cuando estaba trabajando en el procesado de una de ellas, decidí buscar un poco más acerca del puente buscando algúna idea para el título que pondría a la fotografía; me interesé por su historia, su encanto arquitectónico como monumento emblemático de la hermosa ciudad de San Francisco... y terminé llamandola "The Golden Gate Bridge". ¿Qué otra cosa?

Durante esta investigación me encontré con algunas curiosidades de las que no estaba al tanto... y, sin lugar a dudas, el hecho que más me impresionó fue enterarme que «el Puente Golden Gate es el lugar más popular para cometer el acto del suicidio en todo el mundo» - para mí, una verdadera sorpresa.

Entonces decidí ir un poco más allá y me eonctré con que incluso ya se había rodado un documental, de 2006, llamando la atención sobre este asunto y que, a su vez, se basa en un artículo de Tad Friend en la revista New Yorker, que fue publicado en 2003. No sabía nada de esto.

Luego, hace tan sólo unos días, tuve la oportunidad de ver la película y me pareció muy interesante... quizás aterradora sería la palabra correcta; en realidad no podría decir cuánto me impresionó.

Hoy se algo que no sabía en el pasado y quería compartir con usted, querido lector, esperando que no le resulte perturbador pero si revelador, como me ocurrió a mí. Ó "una influencia positiva", como sucedió a Kevin Hines, sobreviviente de uno de los saltos, cuando vió la película en su lanzamiento.

(Afortunadamente ahora mismo hay algunas iniciativas para salvar las vidas de aquellos que saltan desde el puente y algunas otras que tratan de hacer al Golden Gate un lugar más seguro, para todos.)
