R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Within the last half hour news of Michael Jackson's death has been flying all over Twitter and Facebook..

This is really something how quickly news travels around these days with the Web 2.0 sites.. We almost don't need T.V. anymore (I no longer own one either).

Get more Flickr views from Twitter

Here's a tiny tip that's proved really powerful to me to get more views and mentions on Twitter. I went from having about one mention a month on Twitter, to daily referrals to my pictures.

Its so simple, but I'm amazed so few people have adopted it.

All you need to do is add the '@' symbol to your Flickr name. So, for example, I'm @doug88888.

With that one simple change, I hugely accelerated my number of views on mentions via Twitter.

Try it, and let me know how you get on.

Looks like CNN has a Twitter account and is integrating @replies into the news - sometimes.

Built a display for Twitter messages using a used VFD cashier display, an Arduino board and Flash.

The arduino-side code is very basic:

#include

#define rxPin 2

#define txPin 3

// set up a new serial port

SoftwareSerial mySerial = SoftwareSerial(rxPin, txPin);

void setup() {

// define pin modes for tx, rx, led pins:

pinMode(rxPin, INPUT);

pinMode(txPin, OUTPUT);

// set the data rate for the SoftwareSerial port

Serial.begin(4800);

mySerial.begin(9600);

mySerial.print(0x10,BYTE);

mySerial.print(0x14,BYTE);

mySerial.print(0x0c,BYTE);

}

void loop() {

if ( Serial.available() > 0 ) mySerial.print(Serial.read(), BYTE);

}
