October, russet matron of the year,—
Waving adieu to Autumn's golden train—
Spreading abroad thy banner red and sere
To welcome Winter from the north again...
Of all the pacing months thou'rt dearly mine...
Round thy sober brows red berries twine,
Half hid in Holly smooth, and scented sprigs of Pine.

Nature and Technology: On a hike here on the Italian Riviera, I saw a creeper twisting around a steel cable.
Because he believes in miracles, miracles begin to happen. Because he is sure that his thoughts can change his life, his life begins to change. Because he is certain that he will find love, love appears.

This handle on our Hoosier cabinet has unlatched the door countless times since it was built in the 1930's. A part of our family for only 30 of those years, it is a reminder of the endurance and timelessness of well built things. Happy Macro Monday.
some things just sit at the right spot, you know?

The Willmar east local winds around the curve in Darwin, kicking up plenty of snow in the process. Darwin's tallest structure is visible in the image, no twine ball unfortunately.

November was feeling decidedly like the low point of the year until a tiny gem of a bird, the Wren, (weighing less then half an ounce) popped up right on my doorstep. With well camouflaged spindle-like legs, slimmer than the twisty twine of the now bare creeper which it gripped tightly with curled feet and claws, it was a marvel of deft movement in its search for insects and spiders amongst the tangled masses.
Thank you all for your kind responses.
We're in the midst of a snowy, white wonderland here once again, today. Any hopes for seeing anything green are purely in our dreams! Happy 'Dreaming of Green' Fence Friday, my friends, have a wonderful weekend! :)

The sweet, heady scent of Honeysuckle, carried on a warm summer breeze, is one of the most delightful experiences of the season. Strongest at night, in order to attract pollinating moths, this scent is a happy addition to any garden. Honeysuckle is a climbing plant, common in hedgerows, scrub and woodlands, where it twines itself around other shrubs and trees. Whorls of trumpet-shaped flowers appear from June to August and clusters of red berries ripen in the autumn.
I enjoy visiting Darwin, Minnesota, home of the World's Largest Twine Ball Rolled by One Man. It's quirky roadside Americana at its quirkiest. Amonst the attractions is the BNSF Wayzata Subdivision where a westbound manifest is seen here speeding through town. I bet if a crew member cranked their head while crossing 1st Street they'd get a brief look at that twine ball. Gotta love a good twine ball.
Rain, rain and more rain to come by the looks of it and my building work is on hold again. Rather than upload a shot of our new drainage system surrounded by water, I captured this which arrived in the post today. I thought I'd ordered some festive florist twine but instead I received Gift Wrapping Twine. Useful photo prop if nothing else.
