Not so long ago, I went through a rather difficult patch in my life where everything fell apart in a matter of weeks. During that time, Flickr, and the support of some good friends really helped to boost my emotions up and keep me going when things were at their hardest. One of those friends gave me a small white box, and wrapped up in tissue paper inside were twenty-four small envelopes (each one is only three inches by two inches in size), each one containing a very big good wish for me. My friend knows how much I love Japanese design and Japanese papers, so she went and bought the papers and made these envelopes for me. She also gave me the hand printed Japanese paper that I have used as a backdrop. The simple gift of these twenty-four envelopes filled with positive and good wishes brought me to tears, and meant so much to me at the time. I still look at them even now, as the sentiments expressed still are so precious to me.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 30th of August is "paper design;, which just to be clear does not mean origami, but rather the designs made on the paper itself. It is a pleasure to share these twenty-four magical little paper envelopes with you, and if you get even a fraction of the joy that I did from them, I shall be glad of it! I hope you like my choice for the theme this week, and that it makes you smile!

24 Arches - An ultrawide view of the 24 arches of Ribblehead viaduct at golden hour under a crystal clear cloud free blue sky, reveals the long sweeping curve of the viaduct. Yorkshire Dales National Park.
A golden end to a glorious winter's day in the Yorkshire Dales with a snow topped Ingleborough majestic on the skyline across a golden Batty Moss together with Pen-y-Ghent appearing above Ribblehead Viaduct. The golden warm tones of the late afternoon January sunshine, only minutes before the sun sets just to the right of Ingleborough, fill Ribblesdale with gold and igniting the stonework of the viaduct.

The golden warm tones of the late afternoon January sunshine, only minutes before sunset, fill Ribblesdale with gold igniting both the stonework of Batty Moss viaduct and the freshly fallen snow on Pen-y-Ghent and adjoining Plover Hill.

Addiction - A summer sunset across Batty Moss feeding my addiction of capturing Ribblehead Viaduct under a variety of different conditions.
This wonderful historical structure built by the Midland Railway in 1875 sits in an impressive amphitheatre between Ingleborough, Whernside and Blea Moor, deep in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. As those that follow me have discovered, I've developed an addiction to studying this magnificent subject over the past few years.
Capturing a summer's sunset across Batty Moss with the viaduct as a backdrop is a shot I've been working on over the past couple of summers. Not an easy one to execute as the summer sun makes an early departure from the scene as it disappears behind Whernside (Yorkshire's tallest peak), more than an hour before sunset, so it becomes a compromise of angles, colour, light and composition. Unfinished business this one, I will return.
Many thanks to MarkWaidson for the inspiration for the title with his own addiction.

Wishing all my Flickr friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A massive thank you to all of you and to the countless visitors to have stopped by my stream during the year, leaving faves and really thoughtful comments with a wonderful insight into your perception of my imagery. It's not only really appreciated, but provided me with superb motivation and valuable critique to drive my photography forward this year. White Christmas - OK, so no white Christmas this year at Ribblehead, or for that matter, Yorkshire, the North of England or the UK as a whole, so will improvise with this snowy scene from earlier this year...
Early morning light falls on Batty Moss with the mighty 24 arches of Ribblehead Viaduct standing firm in front of a rather cold looking snow clad Ingleborough, whilst the warm rays of the dawn sunshine, start to pick out the lower slopes of Whernside.

Arches of dusk - Moments after sunset at Ribblehead, the central arches of the viaduct are filled with the rich, warm colours of dusk. The central double width pier is distinctive in this silhouette.
Completed by the Midland Railway in 1875, every 6th pier was built of double width as a precaution in order to provide a margin of protection to the whole viaduct should some of the arches ever collapse.

We awoke this morning, to double yellow lines being painted on the corners of the streets. As if parking around here wasn't bad enough! (It only looks clear on the photo because all the naughty cars were told to move, or towed this morning!)
This photo is inspired by Vindaloo, Clodders, Lumpy Golightly, Aspidistra and other glass ball users! Thanks for your inspiration :)

Our neighbour, underthecoversbassmasta, www.flickr.com/photos/36666349@N00/, found twenty-four tiny wood frogs in the well of his window. He had them in a plastic cup and he gave them to us. After I photographed them, the cup tipped over. I think the frogs all leaned to one side, plus the rock was uneven. Eighteen quickly hopped away. Two were left for Ontario Wanderer to record and release...

Love Is A One Way Street
Daniel Lindstroem
I'm sorry to wake you up,
in the middle of the night,
just wanted to say to you
that I'll hope you'll join the ride.
Just stop and think for a while,
that's why I've lived by your side.
Started thinking by my self,
these words came to my mind:
Mama said love is a one way street,
all you do is follow your feet.
When you really love someone, there's no way to run!(just)
Listen to your heart and you'll be alright
Its a feeling you can't fight.
This is what she said to me,
this is how it's got to be!
Our love is a one way street...
Ever since i first met you,
from the moment you crossed my way,
I've had you in my head,
talking twentyfour hours a day.
I feel how strong it's got me,
that's why I had to close the door!
Now I'm sitting here missing you
so much more than ever before...
So hey, don't you worry
Hey, don't be sad and don't be sorry
Soon we'll be together
I need you more than ever!
I need you, more than ever...
Mama said love is a one way street,
all you do is follow your feet.
When you really love someone, there's no way to run!
(just)
Listen to your heart and you'll be alright
It's a feeling you can't fight.

i have resolved that one night when it's warmish and dryish i will go to campus when nobody is around and photograph the beautiful buildings our school is full of.
ps my favorite part about this is the orange orbs.

Today I was given the pleasure of taking pictures of two of the many beautiful people in my life. Stephen and Emily are both amazing dancers as well as awesome friends. It was great hanging out with them and I'm sure I'll put several pictures from today's shoot up... soon.
The wonderful part is that it was supposed to storm all day. This morning the only thing I could think was "WHAT WOULD BARBRA STREISAND DO?!" It was wonderful weather the entire afternoon :)
These are pictures after the shoot. They decided to teach me things. I'm a horrible dancer most of the times.
Fact: Last summer I spent at least a month of late nights watching Funny Girl at 2am and crying. It happens to the best of us sometimes?
