Given dull skies and thick sea haze, I felt an "aggressive editing interpretation" was my only option for this once in a lifetime visit to this iconic landscape.

They say life is a journey and not a destination and if there’s any truth in that statement then our day trip to the Twelve Apostles can be thought of in the same way. Our driver and tour guide Alex picked us up from our hotel at 7am in the midst of a torrential downpour. We made numerous stops to pick up other travellers before heading out of the city, still in the pouring rain. My initial thoughts didn’t bode well for a classic shot of this honeypot destination.
We covered over 500+ kms in a round trip lasting 12 hours… god only knows the hours and distance Alex must have covered with all the pickups and drop-offs that day before going home. Like all arranged tours the enemy is time and having reached our destination of the Twelve Apostles we only had 30 mins at the location. This included getting out of the minibus, rushing off to find the underpass that leads to the clifftop pathways (several hundred metres) to the viewing points, setting up, take the god damn shot (little James Bond quote for you there!) and getting back to the minibus.
I managed 24 shots in that time, but I dare say I’ve come away with the most dramatic images taken that hour compared to the hundreds of smartphone, selfie-shooting tourists around me. I say that because I was the only one daft enough to lump a tripod and big heavy camera with filters and stoppers around with me all day. So, here’s one of those 24 shots… taken with a 10 stopper for 20 seconds.
In hindsight, I’m glad I went and visited the Twelve Apostles and got my token shots, but the real highlight of the day was the journey and all the little stop-offs. The conversations and banter with Alex between the long stretches. The Great Ocean Road is peppered with great little communities that are self-sufficient and worthy of a couple of hours stop-overs. Oh… I must mention the chocolate factory stop-off… we were still eating it in Sydney!
An easily recognized and beautiful dragonfly (well, they're all beautiful in my book!) photographed in Brice Prairie, La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

'Angelic Waves of Light' kicks off a second mini-series on the 'Great Ocean Road', due to more recent work trips in Autumn 2023 to Melbourne (the capital of the State of Victoria, Australia). The first mini-series was in late 2019, while on holidays.
The Great Ocean Road is 240-kilometres (150 miles) long. Starting just west of Melbourne, it runs along the south-western coast of Australia. Thus, highly accessible to Melbourne and easy to undertake weekend trips.
Now a prime Aussie tourist attraction, it has extensive Pacific and Southern Ocean views; also of beaches, limestone and sandstone cliffs, and rainforests. Its landmarks include the renamed 'Twelve Apostles' stack formations, and many more (see this gallery on the end of p.3 & p.4 re earlier trip).
The road also passes the 'Surf Coast' (really good surfing) and, later, the 'Shipwreck Coast'; with approx. 638 known shipwrecks due to gales, human error and, in some cases, foul play (Wikipedia), mainly during the sailing ship era.
It was built through tough terrains by returned WW1 soldiers, from 1919-1932 and dedicated to Aussie soldiers killed in the fighting. It's the world's largest war memorial. Perhaps this was why some stacks were renamed the 'Twelve Apostles', with my photo inadvertently called 'Angelic Waves of Light' perhaps also relevant; and of course to the festive season!
All the best and good luck for 2025, have a great one! :-) 🎉

[Also pls note, this mini-series, like others, is bound to be interspersed with other unrelated shots, as determined by the photographic gaze and processes].
What a delight to see dragonflies visit our gardens! When I researched to find the proper name for this guy, it was quite confusing. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent answer as to why it is called “ four spotted” when there are clearly many spots! Let’s just say it is a beautiful dragonfly.
Thanks to my Flickr friends for identifying this guy as the Twelve Spotter. It makes more sense to me.
Inzwischen ist es schon eine kleine Serie über einen der schönsten Orte den ich je besucht habe :-)

Vacation impressions Tenerife 🇪🇸
* La Orotava
La Orotava, located in the north of the island of Tenerife, is one of the oldest towns in the Canary Islands. It was founded after the conquest of the island by the Spanish crown at the beginning of the 16th century. The town still preserves a rich architectural, scenic and cultural heritage today. The name La Orotava is derived from the large valley that the town shares with the towns of Los Realejos and Puerto de la Cruz. La Orotava is one of the access routes to the Teide National Park.
Throughout its long history, La Orotava has accumulated a large number of historical buildings with a religious and social background. You can visit the church Iglesia de la Concepción from the 17th century, various manor houses of ancient family lines, as well as the manor house Casa de los Balcones, which was built in 1632 and is famous for its wooden balconies and its Canarian courtyard.
