My boyfriend tripped when we had just began our walk in the woods. It sounded like he had kicked a rock. Turns out, he accidentally kicked this little dude! All was well with the turtle and he "ran" away perfectly well soon after this photo.

Another Big Turtle by Kala King

There are several different kinds of aquatic turtles at White Rock. This one was as big as yesterday's softshell turtle but not as round. This one is a river cooter. Apparently it stayed too long in one place within reach of a bird, as shown by the white on its back. The egrets and herons walk up that cement slope and shoot that stuff out for a distance of a few feet. See the white stripes on the concrete under the turtle foot? That is not paint.
