We encountered this turtle several times during the dive. She was quite shy and stayed away. But she could be easily identified by the sea acorns growing on her back.
In 1991, Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga was formed. The idea was to give the responsibility for the turtle’s survival to the very people whose economy had depended on harvesting the turtles.
This is my colleague's turtle that he brought with him to the work place. Most of the time he is just sleeping :)

I almost ran over it on my bike. Rather large specimen - at least 15" long.
Most exciting thing I saw all morning- a turtle in the parking lot.
I believe it is a painted turtle. (Chrysemys picta)

We found this spotted turtle (Clemmys guttata) trying to cross the street at my Uncle's house in Mattapoisett, MA - USA. He was making typical "turtle progress" so we helped him to the other side of the street. These guys like wetlands, bogs or shallow ponds, or even just moist forest floors.
