This turtle was standing very, very still. So focusing was trivial, and I got to make sure that no annoying leaves were in the way. Completely unlike with that bird a while ago, the last time we were there.

A rare sight in the waters of southern California, a green turtle forages amongst the algae in the shallow waters of La Jolla Shores.
Our first dive today was Salt Pier. It was the best dive we had on the trip, which we affectionately called the turtle dive. There were turtles at each turn, and it was fantastic! We probably saw at least 4 turtles all at the same time. They were having breakfast of sea grass. We managed to observe them eating breakfast -- using their front flippers, they'd brush the sand to reveal the sea grass underneath and take a big chomp. After a few minutes, they would ascend to exhale and inhale (sometimes they'd pop their heads up twice for both operations). It was awesome to just watch them, and they didn't seem to mind.
On August 9th, Charity and I went to the Southwick Zoo in Mendon. It was a pleasent day. Closer to the end of the day, the big animals started to wake up and move around, especilly the tigers.
After not seeing one of these in the wild since I was a kid, and then only once, this year I've now seen four or five. Cute scaly turtles! This one was on the side of the road leading to the Mason Neck State Park Visitor's Center. Another was there on the way out! At least, I think it was a different one.
The ranger at the visitor's center said the turtles like to lay their eggs right up next to the road because it's warm. What a place to enter the world! Good luck, little turtles!

Turtles are just fun to watch. When I was a child, living in England, I had three for 3 1/2 years as pets. True, they can't fetch, roll over, or beg - but they were amusing little fellows. When I moved back to the US I could not bring them back, I gave then to a friend in Huntington.
Most mornings I see a rabbit in the front yard but today there was a turtle. Guess he won the race today.
