The Blue Mosque's historical and architectural significance, as well as its cultural and religious importance, make it a central attraction in Istanbul. The inclusion of the mosque in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list underscores its value in preserving and showcasing the rich history of Istanbul.
The mosque's distinctive features, such as the central dome, semi-domes, courtyard, and minarets, reflect the classical Ottoman architectural style. The interior adorned with Iznik tiles and floral motifs in shades of blue adds a unique and visually stunning aspect to the mosque, earning it the popular name "Blue Mosque."
The strategic location of the Blue Mosque, situated across from the Hagia Sophia and near the former Hippodrome, creates a historical and cultural ensemble, making this area a focal point for tourists and visitors interested in exploring the rich heritage of Istanbul.
The inclusion of Ahmed I's tomb, a madrasa, and other structures within the mosque's kĂĽlliye further contributes to its significance as a religious complex, showcasing the multifaceted aspects of Ottoman architecture and cultural practices.
Overall, the Blue Mosque stands as a testament to the grandeur and artistry of the Ottoman Empire, inviting both worshippers and tourists to appreciate its architectural magnificence and historical importance.
Since I am in Turkey, I unfortunately did not have a lot of availability to share pictures on my page with you my Flickr friends. Today I wanted to share with you a picture caught in the area of Kapadokia (Cappadocia) showing one of the numerous villages built in rocks in the valley near Gömere. I love this picture for the subject but also for the sunlight crossing the clouds and lighting one village in the valley and the top of this snowy mountain far away. I know it does not look like this but I can tell you when I took this picture the temperature was a little 0C (32F) and I was totally frozen after having staid outside for 4 hours... just taking small Turkish teas to warm my body...

For the last picture of this series (do not worry more pictures of Turkish cats will come later...), I choose a special picture. This was on the boardwalk, along the sea, in Izmir, Turkey. Around 10:00pm. No lights. This was raining. I had to guess the path where I was going. I heard cats who were RRRRROARING. I used my flash and have time to take one single picture before they get out. The result is pretty surprising I have to say with the reflections of the two cats on the sidewalk. The kind of picture, even this is not perfect, is always interesting to catch, having the feelings to be at the good place at the good moment to catch it. I love this kind of picture that makes me loving "photography".
