In all my years of playing, I have never found a more potent joy than that of playing a freshly tuned piano. There's something about it, how the keys live inside each other, harmonizing perfectly. And it's all thanks to these little pegs.
If only they'd sit tight!
(edit: truth is, these pegs never twist on their own. It's the humidity in the air that warps the piano wood [along with pounding jazz chords], causing the piano wires to tighten or slacken.The pegs are merely the means by which the tuner returns the wires to their proper tautness)
