When I first took this shot of three Lesser Goldfinches on Mt. Diablo 11 years ago, I immediately thought, "Do you hear what I hear?" Now, over a decade later, it is a perennial favorite on Flickr. So, once again... Merry Christmas to all, and to all...

Now, I'm off to continue a tuneup with my minions.

She ran a strong race and finished 2nd overall (women). It was an early season tuneup race, so none of the top girls was going full out. A tuneup for me as well, as I didnt have the camera settings in the proper mode. ugh - very frustrating - lack of clear focus due to not having auto-focus on constant or continuous mode; bad f-stop choice; wrong white balance setting; yuck...

I chose Mount Si as my first hike of the year because it was on my list and the Washington Trails Association said it was great for all ages, bring the kids, dogs, grandma, whatever.... This, at least for me, is not a tuneup hike. Four miles up gaining 3150 feet in the trees. You can't tell from this, but that is a layer of ice on the trail for the last mile, I didn't expect that, I assumed snow and that wouldn't have bothered me, but ice.... the last mile took an hour and my legs were screaming at me. I got there before dawn and had three people pass me on their way down, I must have passed fifty, all of them wearing this wonderful invention called spikes, think chains for your shoes.... now I know.

It's time to stop making everything about you. Look for opportunities to give to others.

Today, seek out opportunities to give your energy, your kindness, your patience. Maybe you'll let someone talk to you a little longer than usual about their problems, if that's something that makes you uncomfortable.

Take actions that you know will make other people feel good, with no attachment to the results, no expectations. You're not doing it because you need to look good or be validated. You're not going to change someone's life with these actions. Forget about all that. That's ego. Do it because you need to step out of your world of comfort.

Today's image was taken late this afternoon in the City Centre of Coventry. The view is of the original Bablake School. The Grade I listed 14th century building was originally constructed to house priests from the adjacent St John the Baptist Church. As with most of the buildings in this area, the priests quarters were built as a result of the land being donated by Queen Isabella. The property was rebuilt in 1560 and at that time it was remodelled as a Boys School. It remained as a fully functioning School until the 1890's. After this time the newer much larger Bablake School was built about a mile away.

Today's photo was taken this afternoon in the Walsgrave area of Coventry. The image is of the Grade II* listed Church of St Mary the Virgin. A Church dates back on this site to about 1300 however there is no trace of the original Church visible. It is estimated that the Church was completely rebuilt during in the late 13th or early 14th century. There was also major restorations in the 19th and 20th centuries. One of the most important interior features of the Church is the early Font. This probably dates back to the early 12th century. Another fixture of special interest is the Medieval glass (approx 14th century) in the east window of the south aisle.
