Today we drove out to Chilliwack to their tulip festival. It was sunny but it had been raining over the weekend and the fields were very wet and muddy. The lady at the entrance booth warned us, but we were both wearing shitkickers, so we weren't worried, unlike some others who were shod most unsuitably. The mud was slippery, quite treacherous actually. We saw one kid howling, holding his muddy hands in front of him, his mother shushing him. The tulips were beautiful of course and I took lots of the usual photos one takes at tulip fields, saw some guys with their tripods and the instagram crowd doing selfies. So we made it through unscathed, didn't slip in the mud, and as we returned to the parking lot we saw a couple approaching us with a large fluffy white dog wearing tiny red booties on his paws, they had no idea of the muddy mayhem that was further afield ... :)
Interesting to find two scenes with strong similarities in two places you would never expect to find such things. I like looking for spots like this.
The Canadian Tulip Festival 2023 hasn't quite begun yet, but already many tulips are in bloom...

TULIP :
The tulip is a Eurasian and North African genus of perennial, bulbous plants in the lily family.[1] It is a herbaceous herb with showy flowers, of which around 75 wild species are currently accepted.[2]
The genus's native range extends west to the Iberian Peninsula, through North Africa to Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, throughout the Levant (Syria, Israel, Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Jordan) and Iran, north to Ukraine, southern Siberia and Mongolia, and east to the Northwest of China.[1][2] The tulip's centre of diversity is in the Pamir, Hindu Kush, and Tien Shan mountains. It is a common element of steppe and winter-rain Mediterranean vegetation.
A number of species and many hybrid cultivars are grown in gardens or as potted plants.
