Nordraak (1842-66) was a composer, best known for writing the Norwegian national anthem "Ja, vi elsker dette landet." He died in Germany of tuberculosis at the age of 23, was originally buried there, then reinterred here in Oslo.
Var Frelsers Gravlund is one of the prettier cemeteries I've seen. Located in downtown Oslo, it was opened in 1808 (as the result of a cholera epidemic and famine). The cemetery is full and has been closed to new graves since 1952. (Exceptions for those who are added to previously existing family graves.). This basically became the upper class cemetery for Oslo.
It has five sections: northern, eastern, southern, western, and Aereslunden. The latter is Norway's main honorary burial ground -- that is to say, famous Norwegians are buried here. (Among them, you'll find artists -- Thomas Fearnley, Christian Krohg, Edvard Munch -- and writers Olaf Bull, Henrik Wergeland, Henrik Ibsen and Bjornsterne Bjornson. A few prime ministers are here, along with quite a few other notable folks (at least to Norwegians).
All of this being said, what's interesting to me is what's next door to this cemetery: directly adjacent to the cemetery, you can find the Old Aker Cemetery (with Old Aker Church in the middle). That's an awfully small cemetery -- especially in comparison -- but a lot older.
If you take the five minutes to head over to this spot, you'll be standing in front of the oldest building in Oslo. The church is thought to have been originally built by King Olav Kirre in 1080 A.D. (The church grounds as you see them are from the 12th century.). The building was pillaged and damaged by fires many times. The exterior was restored in 1861 and the interior from 1950-55. It's an active congregation.
The other fun fact (maybe a fact) is that this is probably the location of the regional thing in Norway. (A "thing," in this sense, is a tribal council, assembly, etc. presided over by a lawspeaker. These were typical in Germanic history and in Scandinavian history. If ever you're in Iceland, you may pass a place called Thingvellir, which they say is the original Parliament in the world from 930 A.D. But, I digress.)
The spot of Old Aker Church is historically old/important. Even before the church, this was the location of a silver mine used during the Viking Age.
This is definitely worth your while if you're someone who's interested in the history of cemeteries (or history in general).

Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly contagious bacterial infection primarily affecting the lungs, but it can spread to other organs like the kidneys, spine, and brain. Caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it spreads through airborne droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Radiology, particularly chest X-rays, is crucial for detecting lung involvement and diagnosing TB early. For individuals in Jaipur, visiting the Best Radiology/X-ray Hospital in Jaipur ensures accurate diagnostic imaging, which is essential for effective treatment. Early detection, along with a strict antibiotic regimen, significantly improves outcomes and helps prevent TB transmission.
