Sanctuary of Truth (Thai: ปราสาทสัจธรรม, also called Wang Boran and Prasat Mai[1]) is a temple construction in Pattaya, Thailand.[2] The sanctuary is an all-wood building filled with sculptures based on traditional Buddhist and Hindu motifs. The top of the building is 105 meters high, and the building covers an area of more than two rai. It features contemporary Visionary art based on traditional religious themes. The project was initiated as an idea of Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981, and is scheduled to be complete in 2050.

The style of the sanctuary evokes Khmer architecture, displaying hand-carved wooden sculptures indicative of the imperial setting at Angkor. It has four gopura, respectively representing images from the Buddhist and Hindu religions and mythologies of Cambodia, China, India and Thailand.[1] According to the official website, its purpose is to use art and culture as "a reflection of the Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. Within this complex, visitors will understand Ancient Life, Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and Common Goal of Life toward Utopia".[2]

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.

Just what I do 😛

In recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day, my painting created in 2023 for one of two shows at the Art Gallery Of Bancroft that year; the first one with indigenous artists; and the second one with "settlers" artists.

'Truth and Reconciliation-View from Eagle's Nest'

(with indigenous figure paddling a birchbark canoe lower centre)

This is a painting (24" x 36", acrylic on canvas) that I created as a submission to one of two juried theme shows on the topic of Truth and Reconciliation (with indigenous populations in the area) scheduled for the Art Gallery of Bancroft (Ontario, Canada) in the fall. As a "settler" in the area (for 71 of my 75 years) I was directed by the call for participation to create a work of art representing the "Reconciliation" dynamic of the theme. After a thorough reading of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action document published by the Government of Canada, I settled on this idea of illustrating the view from the Eagle's Nest (an iconic and revered geographic spot on the north side of town) as how it would look without the present day "settler" incursions of a Tim Horton's restaurant, business buildings and homes and a golf course--but just the hallowed vision of the curling York River and the simple rolling hills ablaze with fall colour--a view that local indigenous populations have marveled at and honoured for millennia; and that has been a shared sacred spot for me, as well, in my time living here.

Here is the story that has prompted me to post this photo, though any of you guys who know me know I don’t do this kind of shot, as a rule, but this time . . . yeah, I’m doing it. This is going to be a diatribe for justice, so skip right over this if you want. It’s probably boring to anyone who’d never had to deal with this kind of thing.

This photo was taken back in December of 2002, in Decatur, AL, with a little Sony Mavika, so it's pretty poor quality. This particular branch actually had key lights out on their sign, which prompted us to drive back by for a second disbelieving look and a shot!

Many of you know that Ken & I have been working day and night with our home remodel, trying to get a refinance for the last year – roll some loans together, do a payoff and have money to finish work on the house, since I have not worked since Jamie passed away, and things are tight. We’ve done almost ALL of the work ourselves- like tiling. (HA! in spite of a broken arm AND sitting in grout!) We have persevered; we have worked hard. We finally finished work on the kitchen and on the small bathroom that we totally gutted. FINALLY met the details demanded by the appraiser and the bank. (3rd time’s a charm, right?)

SO! Here’s the deal- almost a year later and we closed on our refinance loan last week. We expected we would be taking a check with us at closing, or at least a deposit slip - instead, we were told No, the bank (“ass Bank”- aka “Compass Bank”) would not release the funds for several days- yes, AFTER Christmas – well how nice . . . SO . . . We requested a direct deposit. Ken checked our account online again yesterday- a deposit had been made but the amount was short by almost $4000!! WTF??!

They have held up our money already, and now the amount is wrong?! Our funds and loans are insignificant to them; they are monumental to us.

Ken emailed and called our bank representative to tell her that the payoff amount was incorrect, which made the deposit to us incorrect. She agreed that it seemed like a large difference and we should check with the closing attorney’s office. Yes, we DID! The closing attorney said the amount deposited was what the bank had sent through them due to a change in one of the figures- that our loan payoffs were more than what was shown, so the deposit amount to us was less. HUH? Our loan payoff amount had NOT changed!!

Are you sensing further scuffling? We were advised to call another lady in another part of the bank. She said she had no idea where the lawyer’s office had gotten the figure. Hmmmm- they got it from the bank! Of course! (Read “ass bank” here!)

Ken checked our account again- checked what the payoff for our loan consolidations showed there- yet a different number appeared as the payoff amount! NO JOKE!

Making a further call to the payoff departmen, Ken was advised that yes, that appeared to be some error “somewhere,” and probably with the attorney’s office . . . Are you getting this? and then this guy gave Ken a 4th and different amount!!

We try to be careful with our money, try to be aware of what goes where and how much it was. Aren’t banks PAID for that sort of thing? Numbers, amounts?

Now, I don’t know about you guys, but if I shorted the bank by $4000, you can bet they would have their money back, collect interest AND double interest in the quickest manner possible! If you were a teller or window clerk at the bank and made a mistake of that size, your job would be in jeopardy. But if they short you, you will have to battle for money that was already YOURS! You will NOT pass GO- you will NOT Collect $100 (or $4000) until the “ass Bank” says you will!

OH! And yes, a correction “of some sort” will be made by the “ass Bank.” Yes, they will cut a check this time and mail it- no direct deposit for errors- even of $4000 worth. And Oh Yeah- it should get to us within three weeks, or please let us know . . . !! You have got to be kidding me! I am sure there will be no "I'm really sorry we don't have our act together" message. No shame in doing a shoddy crappy job at what they are paid to do! Just amazing!

Do you know how much money financial institutions must be making in interest from money they withhold from costumers EVERY day, for a day, a week, 3 weeks? If they are doing it to us, they are doing it to many more people, and though we’re a drop in the bucket, drops add up to streams and rivers and FLOODS, and that adds up to millions of dollars they are stealing from us all!

Know the figures in your accounts, know what documents you sign, what you owe, what you pay, because the “ass Banks” of the world will not hesitate to make the mistake in their favor EVERY time! Be aware, be wary, and be SURE.

I mean, I’m just saying . . . 

I love the rain, snow, and nature. The ocean and rivers are beautiful and inspiring! If given the chance, I never miss a snow day. I didn't miss them as a kid or a teenager, so why should I now? And by the way… the feeling of crossing the East River by ferry is out of this world!!! The best experience & cheap, too!

A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. It is Athena who descends to call Telemachus to Adventure in the first book of Homer's Odyssey--to man up, find news of his true father Odysseus, and rid his home of the false suitors, and too, it is Athena who descends in the first book of Homer's Iliad, to calm the Rage of Achilles who is about to draw his sword so as to slay his commander who just seized Achilles' prize, thusly robbing Achilles of his Honor--the higher prize Achilles fought for. And now Athena descends once again, assuming the form of a Gold 45 Goddess, to inspire you along your epic journey of heroic endeavour.

The other day I was with a woman I look up to. She told me that I should celebrate who I am, and although at first I found humor in the comment, I started to understand what she meant. We must celebrate all those things that have worked to bring us down, for those are the things that have built us up to be strong individuals.

To be honest, I think we all wear our clothes to hide our scars. Those things that have happened in our lives that slowly began to cut us down - those people who willingly became a part of it. But there's something wrong with a world that hides from their past; denial is only the first step on a path one chooses to slowly forget how they became who they are. I believe we should celebrate misfortunes, mistakes, tragedies and those who you find you will never forgive. These are the things that make you wise, brave, strong; they are, as scary as it seems to sometimes admit, the beautiful person you are today.

"But who is that Ruth, darling?"

Nowadays it is helpful to have a pair of truth glasses nearby. The world of mankind is afflicted with falsehoods, misguidance and illusions. We will find peace in the depths of our hearts.

In respect,

This is the second one of these old signs that I've run across over the years. One has to wonder how effective the message is. It seems to suggest there might already be suspicion about the health effects of tobacco smoke. As it turns out using this product could cost one a pile of gold in health care cost.

Love, love, love the new Truth Hair!

This is from the same photoshoot as the previous lion photo. I was changing things around and experimenting with the lighting, as it was very difficult to expose properly.

The awesome thing is that as I was processing this image in Photoshop, I discovered that there was a distinct face of Jesus in my painting. The painting is abstract, and although I had the book of Revelation in my mind as I painted, I did not deliberately paint a face. I've added the lens flare to light the face up a bit, used a blending layer to enhance the overall photo, cropped slightly, and heightened the gold tones with a photo filter.

At the gas station of truth...

South San Francisco, California, December 2018

“The moment of truth, the sudden emergence of a new insight, is an act of intuition. Such intuitions give the appearance of miraculous flushes, or short-circuits of reasoning. In fact they may be likened to an immersed chain, of which only the beginning and the end are visible above the surface of consciousness. The diver vanishes at one end of the chain and comes up at the other end, guided by invisible links.” (Arthur Koestler)

"Ain't I a Woman?," is the name given to a speech May 29, 1851

Sojourner Truth ( born Isabella ("Bell") Baumfree; c. 1797 – Nov 26, 1883) was an African-American abolitionist and women's rights activist. Truth was born into slavery in Swartekill, Ulster County, New York, but escaped with her infant daughter to freedom in 1826. After going to court to recover her son, in 1828 she became the first black woman to win such a case against a white man.

She gave herself the name Sojourner Truth in 1843 after she became convinced that God has called her to leave the city and go into the countryside "testifying the hope that was in her." Her best-known speech was delivered extemporaneously, in 1851, at the Ohio Women's Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio. The speech became widely known during the Civil War by the title "Ain't I a Woman?," a variation of the original speech re-written by someone else using a stereotypical Southern dialect; whereas Sojourner Truth was from New York and grew up speaking Dutch as her first language. During the Civil War, Truth helped recruit black troops for the Union Army; after the war, she tried unsuccessfully to secure land grants from the federal government for former slaves.

In 2014, Truth was included in Smithsonian magazine's list of the "100 Most Significant Americans of All Time".

Truth was one of the ten or twelve children born to James and Elizabeth Baumfree (or Bomefree). Colonel Hardenbergh bought James and Elizabeth Baumfree from slave traders and kept their family at his estate in a big hilly area called by the Dutch name Swartekill (just north of present-day Rifton), in the town of Esopus, New York, 95 miles (153 km) north of New York City. Charles Hardenbergh inherited his father's estate and continued to enslave people as a part of that estate's property.

When Charles Hardenbergh died in 1806, nine-year-old Truth (known as Belle), was sold at an auction with a flock of sheep for $100 to John Neely, near Kingston, New York. Until that time, Truth spoke only Dutch. She later described Neely as cruel and harsh, relating how he beat her daily and once even with a bundle of rods. Neely sold her in 1808, for $105, to Martinus Schryver of Port Ewen, a tavern keeper, who owned her for eighteen months. Schryver sold her in 1810 to John Dumont of West Park, New York. Although this fourth owner was kindly disposed toward her, considerable tension existed between Truth and Dumont's second wife, Elizabeth Waring Dumont, who harassed her and made her life more difficult. (John Dumont's first wife, Sarah "Sally" Waring Dumont (Elizabeth's sister), died around 1805, five years before he bought Truth.)

Around 1815, Truth met and fell in love with a slave named Robert from a neighboring farm. Robert's owner (Charles Catton, Jr., a landscape painter) forbade their relationship; he did not want the people he enslaved to have children with people he was not enslaving, because he would not own the children. One day Robert sneaked over to see Truth. When Catton and his son found him, they savagely beat Robert until Dumont finally intervened, and Truth never saw Robert again. He later died as a result of the injuries, and the experience haunted Truth throughout her life. Truth eventually married an older slave named Thomas. She bore five children: James, her firstborn, who died in childhood, Diana (1815), fathered by either Robert or John Dumont, and Peter (1821), Elizabeth (1825), and Sophia (ca. 1826), all born after she and Thomas united.
