Back in 2010/2011 I was working on a project called TRUTHS (www.jocelyncatterson.com/TRUTHS). I will be starting up this project once again this spring and focusing on documenting the every day parts of my life instead of just the adventures. A personal documentary. A truthful collection and recollection of moments.

Four self-portraits I created at Aradale Mental Hospital this past weekend will be included in the Picture This 08 Prize opening at Brunswick Street Gallery at 6pm on Friday 12th September.

Also, there is now a People's Choice Award within the Photography.Book.Now competition that I have entered my book "darkness & light" into. You are only able to vote for one book in the competition so registration is required, however if you've already bought a copy or have created your own book you'll have already registered on Blurb.com, and if you are going to buy a copy then you'll need to register, so it's not too big a deal ;o) Voting is open until September 10, so get to it!

Seems like everything in Truth or Consequences is as unique as the town's name. The town was originally called Hot Springs but changed it's name to Truth or Consequences in 1950. Ralph Edwards, the host of a popular radio quiz show announced that he would air the program from the first town that renamed itself after the show. Hot Springs won. It's name is usually shortened to T or C. Just 30 miles away is the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport Virgin Galactic plans to provide sub-orbital spaceflights to the paying public. Let's hope they don't rename the town again to Virgin or Branson, I like T or C better :)

Truth #2, Bunnies do not lay eggs. We have bunnies. I think the butterflies bring them, but don't quote me on that.
Truth #3, pink Easter grass is not candy nor is it real grass. It's plastic so keep it out of your mouth and out of the trash. It's best to leave it out for me to use next year.

The Mouth of Truth or Bocca della verita, is a marble mask in Rome, Italy, which stands against the left wall of the portico of the Santa Maria in the Cosmedin church.
The reason for its unshakeable fame is a rather macabre legend associated with the mask since ancient times. If a liar puts their hand inside its mouth, they will lose it. The Mouth of Truth is now known mostly from its appearance in the 1953 film Roman Holiday.
When we visited there was a long line of folks waiting to place their hands inside and posing while pretending to be afraid.
We did not get in line nor take our picture with it. We found it much more worthwhile to spend our time inside this amazing church which was built atop of an ancient temple in the 8th century.
However, I did snap this image between folks posing because of its notoriety.

Shiny Singapore is not a place where second-hand goods do a good trade - people here prefer to buy new. Whether it’s used musical instruments or old furniture, it’s a low profile marketplace that survives on CraigsList and other online classifieds.
In Chinatown, this shop has been bucking that trend from way back in the day. It’s a treasure trove of nostalgia that draws tourists looking for something iconically Asian to bring home as well as production companies looking for era-authentic items when shooting a film or an ad that needs to be spot-on for authenticity.
They're ultra old-school: no website, no online shopping and zero sign of a barcode system for inventory. What they DO have is a very cheeky yet truthful banner outside that sums up their trade in the most honest way possible hanging in the street, yet the curious and foolish still come in droves every day.
