Plumeria.

Plumeria, also called frangipani, are fast growing, tropical trees with vibrant blooms and the most extraordinary fragrance. The scent of plumeria wafting on a summer evening breeze is early proof of Heaven!

Plumeria have naturalized so well in Hawaii, many visitors assume it must be native to the isles. Plumeria is native to the Caribbean islands and the mainland of Central America, and grows widely throughout Asia and India.

The picturesque Janjehli is placed at an elevation of 2150 Mtr. A beautiful lush green valley having agricultural fields on its gentle slopes, apple orchards, hills covered with pine and deodar trees. A must visit when in Janjehli is ShikariDevi temple. This small path leading to the temple was a nature lovers delight. Mist surrounds the place with rays finding their way through the mist and trees to give some light to the area, covered also with green vegetation on the side of the path going uphill, was so soul stirring and peaceful.

A smaller and lesser known beach but popular with those in the know is this one near to Naithon. It isn't the easiest to get to and there are few facilities but these are part of the attraction!

Unusual, intriguing, memorable! The Cannonball tree is one of my favorite tropical trees with sea-anemone-like flowers whose sweet enticing fragrance can be enjoyed a field away. It has large hard brown fruit that clang like Cannonballs in the tropical forest at night. The flowers don't erupt on the upper branches either but on root-like branches around the base of the trunk! At night the flowers are particularly aromatic to attract swift-flying pollinators including bats. This particular Cannonball tree was collected in 1913 at Jamaica’s Hope Gardens and has flourished here at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden since it was planted in 1938.

According to textual records, Couroupita guianensis trees have been growing in India for at least 3,000 years, where it is so revered that it is often found growing at religious temples. It's possible that it is native to India as well. Part of the Lecythidaceae family, it grows up to 25m (82ft) in height. The majority of Cannonball trees that grow outside their natural environment were planted as botanical curiosities. Their large orange, scarlet and pink flowers form bunches that measure up to 3m in length. The large spherical, woody fruits, which range from 15 to 24cm in diameter, each contain up to 300 seeds.

It is a large tree, growing around 20–25 meters, with a rectangular trunk. The bright yellow flowers are in corollas. Trees flower in the summer and at the beginning of autumn. These are tropical trees, but can grow to quite large specimens in temperate climates.

Cassia javanica, also known as Java cassia, pink shower, apple blossom tree and rainbow shower tree, is a species of tree in the family Fabaceae. Its origin is Southeast Asia, but it has been extensively grown as a garden tree in tropical areas worldwide because of its beautiful crimson and pink flower bunches.

The rambutan is native to the Indonesian region, and other regions of tropical Southeast Asia. The fruit is related to the lychee and longan fruits and has a similar appearance when peeled. Its translucent white flesh has a sweet yet creamy taste and contains a seed in its middle.

The Himalayas are full of beautiful sights and views that one can enjoy for hours. The mountain ranges around Janjehli have many such spectaculars natural unexplored places. This shot has most pretty meadows and pine trees on the mountains enveloped by a sheet of the dramatic sky as though protecting it to preserve the breathtaking beauty of the place!

As we hurtle towards the end of term I thought that it was timely to remind everyone that I do, in fact, live in Phuket rather than all the other far flung places that I've been showing you pictures of. This reservoir is a regular haunt for me as I both hike and cycle there regularly. This was a rare sunny day in the midst of the rainy season

This island with a curious-sounding name is just a mere 5-minute boat ride away from the Zambales mainland.

Phnom Penh’s only formal night market, Psar Reatrey overlooks the riverside from the central reservation that separates downtown and northern Phnom Penh — it’s easiest to enter by the gate at the north end of riverside to avoid scrambling between lines of parked scooters. As with Orussey, the Night Market is chiefly oriented towards the local market, but is definitely worth a dip to pick up some very reasonably priced clothes — there’s not a huge lot else really aside from some tacky and generic souvenirs.

Chrysophyllum cainito is a tropical tree of the family Sapotaceae. It is native to the Isthmus of Panama, where it was domesticated. It has spread to the Greater Antilles and the West Indies and is now grown throughout the tropics, including Southeast Asia. It grows rapidly and reaches 20 meters in height.

The common names cainito and caimito likely come from the Mayan words cab (juice), im (breast), and vitis (sap), via Spanish.[5] Star apple is a common name

Kailasagiri is a hilltop park in the city of Vizakhapatnam. It is covered with flora and tropical trees and the hill at 360 feet overlooks beaches, forests and the city of Vizag. A perfect time at dusk when the sun was about to set and the city still covered in light of the sun. The clouds in the blue sky reflecting the colors of the rays of the setting sun. The tranquil and quiet surroundings were magically soothing and refreshing!

The bark marpissa (Marpissa muscosa) is a common spider in the Netherlands, belonging to the jumping spiders that can regularly be found indoors. The male grows to 6 to 8 mm, while the female reaches 8 to 13 mm. She prefers to stay on sunny vertical surfaces such as trees or poles, provided there is a hole nearby where she can quickly crawl away in case of danger. The prey is stalked and then pounced on. Like all jumping spiders, the bark marpissa has extremely well-developed eyesight. Of the eight spider eyes, two, the anterior middle eyes, are much larger than the others. The posterior side eyes are set far back, they are visible on the image on the cephalothorax between the implants of legs I and II. The bark marpissa is the type species of the genus Marpissa.

This offshoot of the Bogor Botanical Gardens was founded in 1862 to study mountain flora. The cinchona (a tropical tree belonging to the madder family) was first brought from South America in 1854 and later cultivated here.

The collection now showcases 5,000 montane plants acquired from around the world. At an altitude of 1,200 meters, the serene pastures stretch more than 80 hectares and see cool temperatures averaging 18 degrees Celsius. The charming mountainside panorama adds to the tranquility. This is a gateway to the Gede-Pangrango National Park, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango.

Plumeria with rain drops in Tustin, California.

Plumerias are tropical trees famous for their gorgeous flowers which are used to make leis. In regions with cold winters, plumerias can be grown in containers and brought indoors when the weather cools in autumn. Other common names are frangipani and Hawaiian lei flower.

A Fern leaf that thinks it is a (Christmas?) tree... lol.

It came in a mixed flower-bouquet, I loved the way it looked so much that I put it in a separate vase, lovely... and sprayed it gold!

There are four particular types of habitats that ferns are found in: moist, shady forests; crevices in rock faces, especially when sheltered from the full sun; acid wetlands including bogs and swamps; and tropical trees.

I often see them on roofs, walls, places where NOTHING else grows.

Ferns have been studied and found to be useful in the removal of heavy metals, especially arsenic, from the soil.

Thank you for your time and visit, (*_*)

The curry tree (Murraya koenigii) or curry leaf tree is a tropical to sub-tropical tree in the family Rutaceae (the rue family, which includes rue, citrus, and satinwood), and is native to India. Its leaves are used in many dishes in the Indian subcontinent. Often used in curries, the leaves are generally called by the name curry leaves although they are also actually sweet neem leaves in most Indian languages. It is a small tree, growing 4–6 m tall, with a trunk up to 40 cm diameter. The aromatic leaves are pinnate, with 11–21 leaflets, each leaflet 2–4 cm long and 1–2 cm broad. The plant produces small white flowers which can self-pollinate to produce small shiny-black drupes containing a single, large viable seed. The berry pulp is edible, with a sweet flavor. 46420

Plumeria is a group of small deciduous trees or shrubs and is famous for highly scented, exotic, showy flowers. Associated with the Pacific islands such as Hawaii, plumeria flowers are shaped like a star and come in shades of white, yellow, pink, red, and multi-colors. Plumeria trees are also known for their large, leathery leaves that decorate the attractive ornamental tree from spring until fall. Plumeria trees are also called frangipani. The tropical trees are a member of the dogbane family Apocynaceae. Plumeria plants are classed as deciduous or semi-evergreen trees or shrubs. Because a plumeria tree loses its leaves in winter, the shrub-like tree can resemble a collection of branches growing from the ground. However, in spring, the plant’s beautiful foliage and spectacular plumeria flowers return to add an exotic touch to tropical gardens.

Yellow- footed green pigeon with a Mahua flower. Mahua longifolia is an Indian tropical tree found largely in the central and north Indian plains and forests. It is commonly known as mahuwa, mahua. The mahua flower is edible and is a food item for tribals. They use it to make syrup for medicinal purposes. They are also fermented to produce the alcoholic drink mahua, a country liquor. The liquor produced from the flowers is largely colourless, opaque and not very strong.

Wow, it's been three years since I took this photo. I can't believe it myself. This whole last three years has been quite a blur. Yesterday, after seeing the notice on my computer for months, I finally updated my computer os, then updated Adobe Lightroom, PS, etc. I opened my external hard drive and this is the first (and only) photo I looked at and just couldn't resist bringing up a photo to process. Since this automatically opened in Camera Raw, that's where I processed it. I would have normally put it in Lightroom, but I thought it was good practice anyway to use Camera Raw again.

This was a group photo trip to the Butterfly House in Dallas. It's a permanent building as one of the museum attractions in our huge Fair Park. This is a large 2 story atrium with walkways through through tropical trees and ferns.

I really have to get to work now on my eBay business. I'm really hoping to do at least one outing in the spring this year. I miss you all.

Our downtown streets here in Miami are lined with Royal Poinciana trees. Their delicate, lacy, fern-like leaves throw fascinating shadows on sidewalks, people and objects below.

In June blossoms appear. Glorious red buds unfold revealing a pleated ivory- and gold shield and surrounding red petals. The shield (or standard) petal creates a vibrant contrast displaying the central cluster of black-edged, red-stemmed, pollen-laden stamens.

After a week or so, the petals begin to fall, covering the ground in blazing red blossoms.

Having had good results from this lens with close-up and macro shots, I was keen to see if it could successfully be used for larger subjects, even architecture. I recalled that here in Vienna we used to be able to buy very old-fashioned post-cards and greeting-cards of the city's attractions in black & white, obviously from old negatives taken with view-cameras, some of them with soft-focus lenses. I've tried to create a similar effect here. I hope you like it!

The "Palmenhaus" at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna is a construction of iron and glass, built in 1882 to house the Emperor's growing collection of tropical and sub-tropical trees and plants. It's still going strong 140 years later!

By the way, if it's sharpness you're looking for, don't zoom in - you won't find it - at least not here!

If you find soft-focus interesting, feel free to browse my albums...

A note for "Sliders Sunday":

A good black & white converter provides great possibilities to influence the final image. Here I applied an orange filter overall, before adjusting the b&w reproduction of individual colours. The final step was some "dodging ", mainly on the upper corners, to produce the old-fashioned vignetting effect.

The rambutan (;taxonomic name: Nephelium lappaceum) is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae. The name also refers to the edible fruit produced by this tree. The rambutan is native to the Malay-Indonesian region, and other regions of tropical Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits including the lychee, longan, and mamoncillo.

The name 'rambutan' is derived from the Malay-Indonesian languages word for rambut or "hair", a reference to the numerous hairy protuberances of the fruit, together with the noun-building suffix -an. In Vietnam, it is called chôm chôm (meaning "messy hair") due to the spines covering the fruit's skin

The fruit is a round to oval single-seeded berry, 3–6 cm (rarely to 8 cm) long and 3–4 cm broad, borne in a loose pendant cluster of 10–20 together. The leathery skin is reddish (rarely orange or yellow), and covered with fleshy pliable spines.. The fruit flesh, which is actually the aril, is translucent, whitish or very pale pink, with a sweet, mildly acidic flavor very reminiscent of grapes.

"Sea Shell, Sea Shell,

Sing me a song, O Please!

A song of ships, and sailor men,

And parrots, and tropical trees,

Of islands lost in the Spanish Main

Which no man ever may find again,

Of fishes and corals under the waves,

And seahorses stabled in great green caves.

Sea Shell, Sea Shell,

Sing of the things you know so well."

The Malvaceae, or the mallows, are a family of flowering plants estimated to contain 243 genera with 4225+ species. Well-known members of this family include okra, cotton, and cacao. The largest genera in terms of number of species include Hibiscus (300 species), Sterculia (250 species), Dombeya (250 species), Pavonia (200 species), and Sida (200 species).

Large deciduous tree, occasionally on deciduous forested hills and slopes. The tree is commonly known as Kullu (in Hindi), Kandol (in Marathi) and Indian Ghost Tree (in English)

Gum karaya is exuded from Sterculia urens, a large bushy tree growing to about 30 ft (10 m) in height on the dry rocky hills and plateaus of central and northern India. Originally introduced as a substitute for gum tragacanth, many uses were found for it and its commercial quantities rapidly increased until its use became second only to that of gum arabic.
