In morning's hush, it greets the day,
A sunlit crown in soft display.
Its petals glow with summer's cheer,
A burst of gold that draws you near.
Bougainvillea with pink blooms is a popular variety of this vibrant and hardy flowering plant. The pink variety typically has striking, bright pink or magenta-colored bracts (the colorful leaves that surround the tiny, less conspicuous flowers). These plants are known for their ability to add a burst of color to gardens, patios, and landscapes, especially in warm, tropical, or subtropical climates.

We made the Tuka Beach Hut, inspired by the bamboo huts made locally by Filipino carpenters using sustainable materials and designed to withstand typhoons.
"Tuka" means beak, and it is the shape of the roof and walls of the hut. 😊🍃

Cranberry Hibiscus (Hibiscus acetosella). This beautiful, low-maintenance and useful plant is one of my favorite plants in our Florida food forest garden. It’s a great pollinator plant, heat tolerant, fast growing for chop & drop, and the edible leaves and calyces can be used for teas, juices, and in salads.
A burst of crimson flora so bright,
In sunlit bloom, a lovely sight.
With petals soft and edges fine,
A touch of beauty, nature’s sign.
The plant, in hues of red and green,
A lovely garden, calm and serene.
Cranberry Hibiscus, bold and free,
A symbol of nature’s harmony.
Under the vast blue skies of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, local fishermen cast their vibrant, colorful nets into the largest sea, weaving a daily tapestry of tradition and livelihood. Each throw of the net tells a story of resilience and connection to the sea, capturing the beauty of their way of life. The vivid colors of the nets against the deep blue waters create a stunning contrast, embodying the harmony between nature and human effort.
Daily ritual: coffee, backyard, water plants, chase butterflies, snap photos... repeat. The mango tree, a backdrop, its tiny flowers mere blurs. Today, sunlight kissed them, revealing a starlit crown. I stopped, breath caught. Shame bloomed, hot and sudden. Two years of blinkered vision. How could such beauty hide in plain sight? From now on, my mornings begin with these miniature suns, each petal a brushstroke of nature's art. The once-familiar tree, a portal to a hidden world. No more blurs, only stars to admire, right here, in my own backyard.
