"You can not give a pair of wings to a dolphin.

and wait for it to fly

Neither can give flippers to an eagle

and wait for it to swim

It is wisdom to accept each and also to each other

according to their nature and affinity"

A sensational 'Oceanario' aquarium with turquoise and transparent waters.

Dieses Foto entstand während eines Besuches im Tropenaquarium Hagenbecks Tierpark.

Oceanarium | I confess that at first I had thought that the oceanarium was one of those small aquariums where fish live suffocated in glass domes. But it's nothing like that. The pools here are built using the island's own corals, and there swim sea turtles, cat sharks, barracudas, mere dolphins and so many other species of sea animals.

What I liked the most here was watching the shark feeding moment and the dolphin show, but don't go thinking that you can swim with them. On the island, only keepers have access to animals. From the oceanarium to my next destination, it was about 20 minutes on a speedboat, and I confess I was looking forward to arriving soon.

The Black Volitan Lionfish (Pterois volitans), also commonly known as the Red Lionfish, Turkeyfish, Butterfly Cod, or simply Lionfish, is a stunning and fascinating fish species.

Appearance:

While sometimes called "black," they typically have a varied coloration with red, brown, tan, and black vertical stripes along their body. Some individuals might have a very dark brown that appears almost black.

They have 13 venomous dorsal spines and long, fan-like pectoral fins.

Adults can grow up to 47 cm (18.5 inches) in length.

Habitat:

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, they have become invasive in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea.

They prefer coral reefs, rocky areas, and lagoons.

They are solitary fish and most active at night.

Diet:

Carnivores, feeding on small fish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates.

They are voracious predators and can swallow prey whole.

Venom:

Their venom is delivered through their dorsal spines.

A sting can cause severe pain, swelling, nausea, and paralysis.

In rare cases, it can be fatal to humans.

I think it was my second trip to Japan when I first visited a small (tiny by American standards, about 3 or 4 hundred square feet at the most) aquarium shop in Tokyo called Aqua Zoom. Back then it was down a small street right across from the Kabuki-za in Ginza. It was the best room of fish tanks I’d ever seen, nothing in America could even come close to the quality on display there. The plants, the fish, all perfect, not a brown leaf or tattered fin in the whole place. That was the first place that I saw the fish magazine called Aqua Journal the best fish and plant magazine in the world (my opinion). Every picture is of the highest quality, the tanks are perfection, not the 1970’s recycled pictures that still show up in our magazines. This magazine is made with pride, and every time I’m over there I buy every issue that I can find. The shop moved to the North East of Tokyo into a department Store, it sits at the bottom of a half round staircase open above to the upper floors. It’s been many years since I was there but the last time I was in Tokyo I was walking down the street and saw this beautiful tank at the entrance of another department store. The sign on it said it was set up and maintained by Aqua Zoom I was really happy to know they were still around.

I find it amazing that something so beautiful can be open to the public right on the sidewalk without it being destroyed.

A big thank you to Viktorlantos for finding the website for Aqua Zoom! www.aquazoom.jp/

I feel bad that I can’t find a web site for Aqua Zoom to share with you if anyone knows of one please let me know.

Ok here it is after 3 days solid work and a 50% and an 80% water change my aquarium has been reborn.

It needs more work still, no where near the quality it once was but it will get there!

Just needs a month of love and about £30 more plants.

Cowfish (Lactoria cornuta) & clownfish (Amphiprion Bicinctus o pesce Pagliaccio)

OK here it is one month on, a whole load of water changes later, tada.

Lights on for 6 hours, Ph 6.8, 50%water change weekly, and 3 more plants since last time, thats about it really.

I think 2 months time the plants will have taken hold and it will look more natural, fingers crossed.
