Seven teams of new and young professionals went head-to-head in a night of fast-paced, friendly competition at CTCPA Trivia Night at Black Bear Saloon in Hartford on Thursday, November 13. I'm used to playing for cash, not souvenirs. But since I was on vacation I had to take what I could get.
This is SOME of the exciting prizes won by the Beachcombers. I think we won calculators on the last day, not pictured here.
Some members of my team are apparently frequent cruise takers. When we won they said, not ANOTHER key chain!
A Neighbourhood Watch sign, just off Portobello Rd that tickled my fancy - a bit different from the boring kiwi signs.
The 2nd incarnation of my daily trivia team, and our first victory. I had assembled a group as the "Nautical Nerds" on Day 1, but after Day 2 I didn't see them again. My wife was convinced that as team captain, I steamrolled my teammates and chose my answers over theirs.
To be fair, given a question like "What was the top-grossing film of the 1950's?", and a situation where we had two decent answers - "Ben-Hur" and "The Ten Commandments" - a choice simply has to be made. And someone has to make that choice, and deal with the consequences, good or bad. That's why we have team captains.
So, by day 4 I re-formed the team with new blood, and also altered the name to "The Marinerds", a much more elegant portmanteau name. And we won! Champagne for everyone? Well, everyone in our team, anyway.
