The greatest courage is the courage to start over.

The greatest virtue is to care deeply.

The greatest ignorance is ignorance of beauty.

The greatest sin is indifference.

The greatest reward for a life well lived is to have no regrets."

……In my music room there are numerous ‘misfits’ if things were to get a little mixed up! This genre crossing LP selection here has a misfit in many ways - Red to Black is obvious but Tricky & Bach are composers that are poles apart, as are Tricky’s Flame Red ‘The Hell EP’ and Black four LP set of ’St Matthew Passion’ by Bach that I used to take the shot. All done for Macro Monday’s theme of ‘Misfit’ - which would you choose??? HMM while you ponder, Alan:-)…….

Something tricky this way comes...

It seems hard to believe, but this was one of the more difficult descents on our trip! This wide track consisted of stones and a kind of gravel and was very steep in many places. I really had to watch out at every step I took, because the risk of losing your balance was there all the time.

Okay, I wouldn't have fallen very dangerously, but I didn't feel like twisting an ankle on one of the first days of my journey.

Thoughts! by Kimi Eleonara

This is the descent down swirral edge from Helvellyn, it is steep and the path/pebbles are very slippy...my knees are still cursing me!! The peak in the distance at the edge of the ridge is Catstye Cam

Yes, Dickey Falls is the actual name of this falls!! It was tough to capture as I had to stop on the side of the highway and walk down the bank to a clearing and shoot from across the river. This was the clearest shot I could get. I shot some up closer but liked the way the hill crossed in the foreground and kind of led you into the falls. The close up was just rock and water. Kris.

Aren't they lovely? It was a bit tricky making this shot as i wanted to use natural light and the cats bolted for the door as soon as i opened it for the sunlight to come in. They are my cousin Grace's cats and they are not used to my place yet.

I wanted to capture the relection but the photo would have been a dull one without the cats. After a bit of coaxing I managed to place Snowbelle on the right while Yuki walks in on the left to check out what i was doing. Her inquisitive look was a bonus.

A short interruption to come back to 2023. Here is a Brown Thrasher, the first time I remember getting a clear photograph of one. Filmed at the Cruickshank Sanctuary. This one was not at all tricky to glimpse as it was singing in this dead tree. Yes I was shocked to see it and wasn't sure with the ID until I got home. I checked eBird and there have been many sightings and 12 photos posted from Cruickshank of the Brown Thrasher. Of course, I was there to see the Florida Scrub Jay, some of the few remaining live in Cruickshank scrub. I'll get back to that shortly.

It can be tricky to glimpse a Brown Thrasher in a tangled mass of shrubbery, and once you do you may wonder how such a boldly patterned, gangly bird could stay so hidden. Brown Thrashers wear a somewhat severe expression thanks to their heavy, slightly downcurved bill and staring yellow eyes, and they are the only thrasher species east of Texas. Brown Thrashers are exuberant singers, with one of the largest repertoires of any North American songbird.

What looks like a 3D surface actually is the flat surface of a finely woven fabric. It's the small pouch LOQI tote bags come in. I don't use it to store the folded-up bag when I'm not using the latter. I'm keeping extra camera batteries, SD cards, and other photo-related small things in these pouches. The pattern that creates such a nice 3D effect is the "Sagmeister & Walsh Beauty Pattern", a mesmerising white-on-black pattern that I'd describe as "space worms" ;) And of course, the printed pattern is much smaller on the pouch than it is on the bag.

This is a simple one-shot image but it was a little tricky to find the right angle to get the best and most harmonious bokeh effect. I'm aware of the fact that from this angle, the "focus line" is wafer-thin. But it's there, and I think there's enough sharpness to make the image work.

I used one single (two, please see my P.S.) light source, the natural light photo lamp from above (and natural light from the windows, of course). Processed mostly in DXO and LR (the basics), with finishing touches in Analog Efex.

HMM, Everyone!

P.S. I forgot to mention that I also put my small LED flashlight inside of the small pouch for some backlight.

The minions had never ever not even once thought that eyeballs were candy until they heard a group of people speaking appreciatively about eye candy.

It was decided on the spot.

They frantically surfed the dark web and found a crew with a truck who eagerly agreed to collect and deliver every single eyeball they could find.

Don't ask.

So this year for Halloween, the minions are passing out eye candy to all the trick or treaters.

The trick or treaters are passing out.

Chances are, if you have ever picked up a travel brochure of Arkansas, you have come across a photo of the stunning falling water falls. Unfortunately, it is pretty tricky to find for such a prominently featured waterfall. The waterfall is located in the Richland creek recreational area and is relatively easy to miss, as I found on my first venture. However, I was much more determined on my second visit and finally found the waterfall.

At most waterfalls, it is often difficult to compose a unique shot. The main culprit is the actual fall itself, being such a prominent subject often forces the photographers had when it comes to framing. But that’s not the case at falling water falls. The surroundings are very picturesque, and it's possible to compose images from atop the falls or from either side of the easily crossable stream. I also had the added advantage of fall colors and many very colorful leaves in the water. My main challenge was recovering some of the bright spots in the frame, but I like how this image turned out.

Blacks Gap, 3 shot vertical pano. Took a bit to get the lighting like this, was difficult with the trees casting shadows, ended up reflecting light from a gum tree on 1 flash unit. Photoshop edit.

Shot for Saturday Self Challenge 24/10/2020 ---Texture

Well this week's challenge ended up a bit tricky with three possible shots but none I was entirely happy with , from a tin mine model of mine captured in macro and placed over an existing engine house of the same proportions in it's surroundings , a macro into a geode and a flint wall .

However , a morning out to Bushy Park where I took a shot of a tree the previous week and a tool closer capture of it with texture in mind , but still not good enough for what I was after .

And then !! Saw one of the famous free roaming deer of the Park who obliged with shots through the ferns and then when I was a bit closer the deer then just sat down to take things easy and this shot was on the card . Fading Ferns , Fur & Antlers - and there were three different textures in one shot !!

Bushy Park in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is the second largest of London's Royal Parks, at 445 hectares (1,100 acres) in area, after Richmond Park. The park, most of which is open to the public, is immediately north of Hampton Court Palace and Hampton Court Park and is a few minutes' walk from the west side of Kingston Bridge. It is surrounded by Teddington, Hampton, Hampton Hill and Hampton Wick and is mainly within the post towns of Hampton and Teddington, those of East Molesey and Kingston upon Thames taking the remainder.

I have been taking beaver shots for a decade now and this is the second time I succeeded in catching the tail out of the water during the beaver slap; what is trickier is trying to focus in the fog. It is definitely all about timing. Someone hired a beaver trapper and cleaned out most of the beavers so it is not often I see one at our lake. Taken from my kayak.
