Traintours, 'The Welsh Thunderer' railtour from Staybridge had visited Pwllheli on 7th June 1986 but problems were encountered that resulted in the pair of Class 37/4s that had arrived with the 1J20 from London Euston being used to haul the railtour back to Shrewsbury. Recorded crossing the Afon Arto at Pensarn, 37428 & 37426 complete with headboard were sounding great!

Joe and I ventured out into the country to check out the Battle River Railway trestle near Wainwright Alberta. It was a beautiful day for a drive and well worth the effort of climbing down the hill with our camera gear.

Aurizon's train 9811 has almost finished crossing the trestle bridge at Warra. It is a great site for photography of trains, but alas they are mostly coal trains these days.

One of many ongoing approaches, where I move through the world as a harvester of images stumbling, strolling, lurching, equal parts accidental, and intentional. My concerns circumnavigate around questions that resist easy answers: time as texture, presence as performance, possibility as glitch. I trace the contours of decay and growth, hope and entropy, searching for the quiet collisions where meaning might emerge. Each image is less a document than a provocation an invitation to reconsider what we 'see', and what we ignore.

My last "Postcard from Mendocino" Flickr friends, in this set. I will now turn to responding to your visits and comments. Thanks so much for stopping by! After a time I will return with new photos of Venice and Paris. Ciao for now!!

Description: This is the view taken from a country road near my home. The Pacific marine layer of cool moist air creates a peaceful atmosphere in this part of the country. Like other residents along the west coast of the United States - from San Diego all the way up into Oregon and beyond - those of us who live here enjoy the refreshing sweet air brought in with the fog bank that constantly moves out to sea, or towards the coast, depending on the temperatures inland. Here in coastal Mendocino this mist, combined with the rural character of the county, makes one almost think of Ireland or the coast of Cornwall in England. However, unlike those places it is only green here for a few months during our rainy season. Then as the dry months set in, the hills turn to gold. This photo was taken on a typical morning in April, at dawn, from Albion Ridge.

The fog keeps us cool in summer, and for centuries it has nourished the giant redwoods.

I LOVE Puffing Billy and my pretty Trestle Bridge.

Considering how long it has taken me to get photos of this Melbourne Icon, its going to get posted.

I actually wonder if there ARE people who still go out and train spot.

When I was a kid I used to see them all the time on the railway bridges with little notebooks in hand scribbling away furiously. Even as a kid I could never understand what the fascination was.

STILL DON'T!!!!

Passengers starting their journey at Belgrave Station will experience Puffing Billy’s most famous landmark - the iconic Monbulk Creek trestle bridge.

The Rail Bridge over Hanford's Creek is a rare opportunity to view a largely intact timber trestle bridge. The distinctive construction method used to build this bridge makes it architecturally significant to Victoria and is visited by train buffs from all over the country.

It was constructed for the Victorian Railways in 1890 by McDermott & Sons for the Victorian Railways along the Wandong-Bendigo line, near Pyalong.

The line was primarily used to deliver timber shafts to the Bendigo mines before it closed in 1968. Wool and sheep were also transported on this line.

Noojee Tresle Bridge, located not far from the Gippsland Village of Noojee, is 102 m long and 20 m high and is Victoria's tallest surviving timber trestle bridge. Built in 1919 to extend the train line from Nayook to Noojee the bridge is a legacy of the old railway that ran from Noojee to Warragul. Originally constructed in 1919 it was completely burnt down and rebuilt in 1939. More Information
