Vader Lewis County Washington

This curious fox squirrel stood up on its hind legs just long enough for me to snap a photo. Its upright stance and focused gaze made it seem like it was keeping an eye on everything around.

 

I spotted it in my yard in Arkansas, where these squirrels are frequent guests. They often forage through the grass or climb the nearby trees looking for food.

 

Fox squirrels are the largest tree squirrel species in North America. Their reddish-orange bellies and bushy tails make them easy to identify, especially when they pause like this in full view.

I went on my customary evening nature walk when I had the strange feeling of being watched. I was right...

He has decided to continue his journey across the bridge. Coming at a trot, looks like it will be me who must yield and step aside!!!
