An old dead tree out back is a favorite spot for the many species of woodpeckers that live in my woods, including this female red belly.

The forest forgot but one tree remembered.

Going after a previously stored snack in the granary tree. Acorn Woodpeckers live year-round in oak and pine-oak woodlands of western Oregon, California, and the Southwest through Mexico and Central America. In the fall, acorns are stored in tree trunks to be used year round.

A unique looking tree. I think it's a bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) - a deciduous conifer.

It was a mere 50 degrees...had to explore outside...

Spring, European edition. Some colorful spring blossoms saying hi along the River Tay in Perth, Scotland. Spring is one of my favorite seasons (along with summer, fall and winter) of the year wherever I happen to be, but it is especially good if I happen to be somewhere else (especially in Europe).

Had to get a shot of these as arrived back in Carlisle from Scotland on monday , I was waiting at a signal so grabbed a shot out of the door .

It was pruned last summer so it has not blossomed as well. The neighbors look forward to it also as it is out front.

All our bushes against the building seem to die as it is too shady. Any suggestions on what bushes to plant along the foundation?
