Estuary of the river Sieg in the Rhine. Because of frequent flooding, the path is slightly increased
After a full day of backpacking, getting up the next morning, we were given a gift of this calm morning view of Chewing Gum Lake, located in the Emigrant Wilderness backcountry area of the high Sierras in California.
This towering, neighborhood tree stands on a vacant lot dwarfing the other trees around it. I often wonder what stories it could tell and how it came to dominate the horizon, defying storms and the sawblade. It has a covering of new leaves now, which gives me hope that my country and our democracy will endure through this time of "Trumpian" darkness.
"Trees are sanctuaries, whoever learns how to listen to them, can learn the truth."
~ Herman Hesse
"Solitary trees, if they grow at all, grow strong.
~ Winston Churchill
This tree went down in a summer storm a few years ago. Now it looks like a tree man standing out in our field. Especially in a snow storm like the one we had yesterday.

The sky was blue and the leaves green intense, but I decided to turn it into my black and white.

Thank you for your visit, most appreciated!
I took this Image when direct sunlight was overhead and this caused the Suns rays to strike the trees below, providing interesting shadows and light. I placed the forest path directly centre and used the trees to frame the shot. I took 5 shots and created a Panorama. The camera was hand held, as I did not have my tri-pod with me. The Sony a7ii has brilliant stabilisation built in. I exposed for the sky then underexposed by 1 stop hoping this hopefully would give me sufficient dynamic range in Lightroom to play with. I just love light, shadows and colour. Hopefully it worked.
We got walloped with a huge snow storm and a foot of snow a few days ago - even the birds were taking shelter!
Just two trees seemingly on their own sitting on the hillside . I stumbled across these and I just love trees so wanted to grab a capture albeit in the misty rain. This was when we hiked through the mountains in Glencoe.
PS: Away now travelling for the next few days to Phoenix so wont be online much but will try catch up as and when I can my flickr friends.
the imposing cropping is intended to envelop the viewer and help develop a more immediate connection with the photograph.
This view up into the tall tree today was enough to make me come back and get some captures.
Triptych from this tree also below in the comments.
for us so that we can inhale them to stay alive. Can we ever forget that? Let us love trees with every breath we take until we perish.”
