Distant shores await me,

Exotic ports of call

Longitudes and latitudes,

A paradise for all

From the equator to the southern cross,

And destinations in between

The world is but a treasure trove,

Of paradise unseen.

The Roosevelt Bridge is a major highway segmental bridge across the St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. Carrying U.S. Route 1 (Federal Highway; unsigned State Road 5), it was built to supersede the old Roosevelt Bridge, which had twin parallel drawbridges, one for northbound traffic (opened in 1934, 27.203228°N 80.259612°W) and the other for southbound (opened in 1964, 27.202475°N 80.259762°W).

The new bridge, completed in 1996, is raised and much longer than the older twin drawbridges. The southbound span of the old bridge is still functional for road and boat traffic and now carries two-way road traffic for what is now known as Dixie Highway, County Road 707. The new high-level Roosevelt Bridge is approximately one mile long and is made of two three-lane sections running parallel to each other. The northbound bridge was completed first, and housed two lanes of both north and south-bound traffic until the second bridge was finished.

If but only for a beach alongside the sea,

Be it Maui, Bimini, or Florida Key.

There’s no other place that speaks to my soul.

Like a blue lagoon, or banana wind shoal.

From latitude to longitude, and the elusive southern cross,

Everything under a tropical sun, nourishes my mental floss.

Well, that's it for my city-captures of historic Saint Augustine, Florida. It was our 7th consecutive year here on the 4th of July. It's always fun! I got 50 keepers. All taken in one day, and then it took me the entire month of July to post them. Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did capturing them! I still have one nice Saint Augustine sunrise to post and also a nice grouping of avian captures, also taken in Saint Augustine. And then after that I have a huge-backlog of South Florida sunsets that I still have to work on. Some really good ones! But for now it's on to August in this tense and stressful year. And if the the virus wasn't enough, we will be waking up tomorrow to a Category 2 Hurricane just off our shores! What a year! Hoping everything is good by you, where-ever in the world you might be. Thank you for looking. Best Regards from South Florida U.S.A.

•Dark phase all dark gray with a reddish neck.

•White form all white with two-toned bill and dark grey legs.

Immature Description

Similar to adult, but dark phase paler and more washed out."

To the happiest hour from coast to coast

If I were a cloud

I’d choose a tropical sky

And drift above oceans

To the heavens so high

I’d admire my reflection

In the deep blue sea

And create magical shapes

For the world to see

I’d carry rain to the mountains

And shade to the shore

Traverse countries and continents

Mysteries to explore

If I were a cloud

I would fly

Sky high.

Stuart is a city in and county seat of Martin County, Florida, the United States. Located on Florida's Treasure Coast, Stuart is the largest of four incorporated municipalities in Martin County. The population was 15,593 in the 2010 census. It is part of the Port St. Lucie, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Stuart is frequently cited as one of the best small towns to visit in the US, in large part because of Stuart's proximity to the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon.

When Stuart was incorporated as a town in 1914, it was located in Palm Beach County. In 1925, Stuart was chartered as a city and named the county seat of the newly created Martin County.

The city of Stuart is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World, because of the many sailfish found in the ocean off Martin County.

St. Augustine Lighthouse is located on the north end of Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, Florida. Built in 1874 of brick, the St. Augustine Lighthouse is 163 feet high making it the 8th tallest lighthouse in the United States today. It's all about the light.... finding it and following it to safe harbor. The light can be seen from 25+ miles out to sea. Visitors can climb the 219 steps to the top for great views from this beautiful and fun tourist attraction. It was recently re-painted last year! Fun to visit!

[FYI: Tallest building in town is 6 floors = 60 feet.

This lighthouse, towers over that at - 163 feet high.]
