I first saw a photo of this relief in Flickr™ years ago, and was curious to see the original ever since. It sits on top of a wide doorway leading to the Siren's Cove (of course). This is a panorama put together with PTGui.

Angel Island: Camp Reynold Barracks - this place was originally built during the American Civil War. If we had been around here 50-100 years ago we'd have also seen a row enlisted barracks on the right, but those were demolished many years ago. Today this is what it looks like.

Two matchbook covers from the Treasure Island restaurant and nightclub at 1625 K Street NW, from the 1940s. The restaurant opened as the Chinese Treasure Island in 1945 but very soon its managers decided to drop the "Chinese" and just call it Treasure Island. It was in ground floor space in the Commonwealth office building that had been built in 1941 and was one of the first of the office buildings that would eventually line the K Street corridor. Before 1941, 1625 K had been the address of the "Little Green House on K Street," famous as a rendezvous connected with the 1920s Teapot Dome scandal.
