Image captured on Florida's Treasure Coast, so named because of the Spanish Treasure Fleet that ran aground here in 1715. This time it's just modern cargo netting, but who knows what it will be the next?

This historic Treasure Coast home was turned into a visitors center in downtown Ft. Pierce. The structure was built in 1905.

In 1943 the House of Seven Gables was turned into a house of prostitution and was frequented by servicemen during WWII.

In 1987 it was sold at auction and used as a taxidermy studio. In 1997 the house was donated to the city of Fort Pierce and moved to its present location on June 31, 1998.

In 2000 the St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce opened the house as a visitor's center providing information about things to do in the area and places to stay and eat at. The volunteers who work here answer visitors questions and also give free tours of the house. If you are in the area it is worth a stop especially since the A. E. Backus Museum and Gallery and Manatee Observation and Education Center are located on either side of the House of Seven Gables.

Another low flying shot I took at the beach with one of the drones. Beachgrass blowing on a soft ocean breeze lit by the suns love and marking the end of lands reach.

The sun rising over the Atlantic on the Treasure Coast of Florida in Vero Beach. The silhouette of the tattered "Boiler Flag" can be seen on the right. This flag marks the spot where the SS Breconshire sank after hitting the reef on April 30, 1894. The flag pole is anchored to the remains of the ships boiler.

A wonderful boardwalk path through the mangrove hammock at Toni Robinson Waterfront Trail.

The ocean clarity has been incredible.

Aerial view of the northern most stretch of what would be considered Vero Beach just south of the Sebastian Inlet.

The Anastasia Formation extends for 2 miles north along the shoreline with cliffs up to 15 feet high at the House of Refuge. Looking south from the end of the boardwalk, Bathtub Reef is visible.

Immediately ahead is an outcrop with small burrows, aminated crusts, solution pipes, a notch and an abrasion platform, and a mass of collapsed rock. Moving north along the beach moving toward the House of Refuge, there are several outcrops with conspicuous notches.

At the House of Refuge are prominent planar bedding, many fossils (including Busycon), small and large burrows, thick laminated calcium carbonate crusts, lithified infillings, solution pipes, notched cliffs, promontories and small coves, and many large masses of collapsed bedrock.

Crossed paths with a cute (albeit grumpy-looking) juvenile Gopher Tortoise at a local park. He/she was busy munching away on greenery and was relatively unphased by my presence, pausing only for a second as I knelt on the ground with my camera. I snapped a handful of photos and quietly observed from a distance. And before I moved on, I made sure to tell him/her how cute they were. 😍

The Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) is a native species to Florida and is protected by law. Although it doesn’t happen often because human development encroaches on their habitat, it’s always a delight to see these creatures in the wild. 🐢

A view down the beach today as one of Hurricane Helene's feeder bands came through. This image was taken just south of Vero Beach, Florida on the Treasure Coast which is on Florida's east coast. The wind was howling and the sand was stinging anyone who tried to take a peak at the beach. This is nothing compared to the punishment that the Gulf Coast of Florida is getting. Out thoughts are with the folks that are closer to the hurricanes path.

Some mid-morning dolphin action in the St. Lucie inlet. These playful creatures captured the attention of so many people, both in boats and on the docks. I snapped a lot of photos, most of which were misses, as the dolphins were moving around the inlet rather quickly, and trying to time them surfacing was a challenge. But I did end up with a handful of shots that turned out well. Always a delight to see these animals out there doing their thing! 🐬🌊
