For the Perseid Meteor Shower this year we traveled to a low light pollution location near Encampment, WY. We found our campsite here for Saturday night and I thought I would see if I could catch some meteors reflecting in the pond. Achievement unlocked~!

Shot Notes: this is a composite of all the meteors seen from this location over the entire evening. For foreground detail I used frames from when the moon was still out, and the actual background image is a two-frame panorama (vertorama) so I could get the shot I envisioned in the field. In testing out the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 on the Nikon D500 I was surprised to find coma distortion on the edges of the frame, contrary to what the Lens Tip review suggested. If any other owners of this lens have experience the same, please let me know!

Traveled a beautiful bear

And all I could do

Was just sit there and stare

LOL, yeah, I'm a poet!

I've traveled and seen much beauty, but the Oregon coast is perhaps the most dramatically beautiful coastline I have experienced. It is so Lush right up to the ocean and the rocky cliffs are dramatically stunning. I had to be so very selective in where I stopped to photograph, else I would still be on some rock outcropping seeking another beautiful shot.

Taken north of Neahkahnie Beach & Manzanita, Oregon at Treasure Cove.

Having traveled extensively in July and early august, I got buried in neglected tasks which kept me off the posts of friends and away from the fall migration. this past weekend we tracked north to see the last of the migrants come across.

Traveled to this World Heritage site on a wet, windy day on New Year's Day and so lost my ambition of using a tripod... Quite pleased with this though in Panoramic... I put this in Panoramic as you are positioned quite a way back from Stonehenge and end up with a lot of grass as the foreground!

Yesterday morning I traveled early to the upper reaches of the Tieton River basan above Rimrock Reservoir and found 5 Sparuce Grouse. The light was poor but I managed to get a few photos. It was 37 F when I started hiking and intermittent light rain was falling so it was difficult to keep the camera dry and at the same time get photos in very dim light. Fortunately for photographers these birds are not timid. Then again, maybe it is unfortunate that people and presumably coyotes and other predator can easily approach them. There are only 2 places in Yakima County, Washington where these birds have been seen in recent years They are rare in this part of Washington State. These birds

are the Franklin subspecies.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Numbers 20:17 “Please let us travel through your land. We won’t travel through any field or vineyard, or drink any well water. We will travel the King’s Highway; we won’t turn to the right or the left until we have traveled through your territory.”

I traveled far and wide through many

different times

What did you see there?

I saw all knowledge destroyed

I traveled far and wide to prisons

of the cross

What did you see there?

The power and glory of sin

What did you see there?

The blood of Christ on their skins

I traveled far and wide through many

different times

I traveled far and wide where

unknown martyrs died

I saw the one-sided trials

What did you see there?

I saw the tears as they cried

They had tears in their eyes!

We traveled up to the Colorado mountains to see if the Aspen leaves were showing color change. It hasn't been quite cold enough for the vibrant reds and yellows but so much promise yet to come.

Town Line Road

As we traveled down the road we saw the sandhill cranes gathered by a small little body of water in the fields. The sun was just waking up and the beautiful glo on the cranes was so beautiful that we could not help but stop. Also the reflections and touches of fog in the fields made this a moment that I wanted to capture. Hope you will enjoy !!

Have a wonderful and blessed evening to all my dear friends !!

From Rocky Mountain NP I traveled South to a small town called Ward and ventured into the Brainard Lake Recreation Area. From here I took a small dirt road leading to Left Hand Reservoir.

At this small lake there is a mountain range surrounding it. The wind was whipping, and it started to flurry as the clouds began to build and darken. As you can see, the pine trees here grow thick and the mountain in the distance was ready for its first blanket of snow.

I was alone here and like many other areas I have explore the silence was deafening.

Thanks for stopping by

Yesterday I traveled for 90 minutes to the other side of the Cascades for less cloudiness and a remote site without other people. Instead of sunshine, I got 6 hours of fog in a remote canyon with terrible visibility. I loved the solitude and the sound of flowing water. My only photographic prize of the day was this Canyon Wren at nearly point blank. Anyone who has shot them as little brighter brown spots on distant rock outcroppings can appreciate the specialness of being this close.

I traveled to a Swedish coast resort Ystad. Ystad is a locality and the seat of Ystad Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 17,286 inhabitants. The town has two large medieval churches: The Church of Saint Peter (also known as Klostret) and the Church of the Virgin Mary (Mariakyrkan), both highly influenced by the gothic Hansa architecture.

Pacific Coast Full Moon. The Road well traveled

We traveled about 12 miles out on Spencer Flat Road and then hiked over 8 miles round trip on sand and slick rock to go see this: the Cosmic Ashtray. It's a huge sandstone bowl filled with sand with a large plug of rock in the middle. The bowl is 200 feet wide and 60 feet deep. The dome in the middle is 35 feet tall.

Having traveled more than 25 miles and climbed 1400 ft in elevation the Conway Scenic Railroad's Mountaineer excursion has reached its turnaround point at the top of Crawford Notch along the famed former Maine Central Railroad Mountain Sub. The classic first generation power is running around just west of the Gateway beneath the watchful stoney gaze of Elephant Head. CSRR owned GP7 573 led west trailed by F7 4268 (the ex MEC and B&M duo were built by EMD in Sep. 1950 and Oct. 1949 respectively).

I traveled Canada extensively in the early 1990s before the shortline movement from the US spilled over to north of the border. So in the later years of the decade it was fun to go back and shoot some of the former CN and CP lines with new operators

In 1997 shortline holding company OmniTrax made a splash into Canada by operating some former CN track in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. These were fairly large operations that included the over 600 mile long line to Hudson Bay, and a 100 mile line from near Saskatoon to Prince Albert. Making things interesting was the fact they acquired 20 CN MLW M420Ws and the six BRC C-424s. In addition a former INCO RS11 and three BCR M420 B-units along with some interesting EMD Geeps. They also announced some nice paint schemes along with logos based on local interests.

But like most things OmniTRAX this was too ambitious. Not much happened in the way of paint. And most of the ALCos and MLWs quickly fell into disrepair.

I did manage one chase on the Carlton Trail of their daily Prince Albert to Saskatoon freight on the Warman Sub. Here a former CN M420W leads a BC Rail M420B and an ex-Southern Pacific GP9.

My favorite drive in RMNP...Old Fall River Road, a 9 mile one lane, one way dirt road that leads up to the Alpine Visitor Center and connects with Trail Ridge Road. I went up there last weekend really early and was able to enjoy this scene without any interruptions except for the sounds of a nearby waterfall and birds singing their morning songs. Also saw a bull moose, lots of marmots, and elk along the way.

Happy first day of August!!!

I traveled to the Ralston, WA area this morning hoping to capture a special red barn surrounded by fields of ripening wheat only to find all the wheat was GONE! So I quickly rushed back to this secondary location where the wheat still had some green color.

If you look carefully you can see the little path that runs alongside the canal. Please view large.

Siliguri to Darjeeling road is very beautiful as you we can see green tea gardens and and there are some roads leading to pine forests and along the hill road the scenic view is very nice all along!!

I traveled back to what was my home property a decade ago. It was fascinating walking the 7 acres with my much increased bird by sound skills. Within 10 minutes of arriving, I knew this Gnatcatcher pair were present along with an Ash-throated Flycatcher. I don't think I knew they existed when I lived there. At least one thing is improving with age!

I Traveled to Ocean City NJ at 4am to see some cool birds! Tons of flight shots, nesting shots and interaction shots but for now I decided to post a few environmental shots I thought looked good. Fun couple of hours.

I traveled to shoot wildflowers, but came here knowing that mountain backdrops can add interest to a frame. This hike was to an overlook of Gothic Valley in the Elk Mountains, but this shot looks the opposite direction, to the Ruby Mountains.

From 17th of August until the 31st I traveled through Iceland, mainly the classic tour taking the 1, and here and there doing alternative stretches, but I didn't go inland, because of lack of time. (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10155536506856759&set...).

Two weeks is clearly not enough to see this fantastic country with all its dynamic landscapes thanks mainly through its active vulcanism that can be seen everywhere. Active volcanoes, boiling landscapes, huge lava fields (old en new), moving tectonic plates etc.

And although the weather was very poor (the Icelandic people said it was the worst summer they could remember), there was so much to see (and to photograph) that I drove almost 5000 km's and took ca 2700 pictures (thank god the sun wasn't shining all day because I could easily have taken 6000 shots then).

Most of my pictures will not be very surprising because you can see them everywhere on Flickr, and maybe one day all will go back to do another less obvious tour there. It is worthwhile for sure.

The shot here is the Jökulsárlón Glacier that is part of the Vatnajökull National Park. An incredible big mass of snow and ice. Unfortunately the weather was very dark and regrettably we had to move on next day. It took me a while to figure out how to portrait this big lagoon with all the icebergs, because I wasn't happy with the result of my wide angle lenses. the images are rather empty.

This time my 100 mm tele/macro lens gave me the result that I wanted, and this is one of the finest, that shows all. The icebergs in the lagoon, the colors, and the underlying massif.

I will do some cherry picking from my shots in a random way, because there is just too much to show. This one was taken on the 10th day of the trip.

The highly educated Prince-Archbishop Albert I of Käfernburg, having had traveled in Italy and France, decided to construct the new cathedral modelled upon the Gothic architecture that had intrigued him in France. The French style was completely unknown in Germany, and the hired craftsmen only gradually mastered it.

The construction of the choir started in 1209, only two years after the fire that destroyed the previous church, but this choir is still in a very Romanesque style, initially still using romanesque groin vaults, combined with a gothic center stone, which however is not needed for Romanesque groin vaults.

The Gothic influence increased especially between 1235 and 1260 under Archbishop Wilbrand. As the construction was supervised by different people in the span of 300 years, many changes were made to the original plan, and the cathedral size expanded greatly. The people of Magdeburg were not always happy with this, since they had to pay for the construction. In some cases already constructed walls and pillars were torn down to suit the wishes of the current supervisor.

Construction stopped after 1274. In 1325, Archbishop Burchard III. von Schraplau was killed by the people of Magdeburg because of extreme taxes. Folklore says that especially the beer tax increase caused much anger. Afterwards Magdeburg was under a ban, and only after the donation of five atonement altars did the construction of the cathedral continue under Archbishop Otto von Hessen. Otto was also able to complete the interior construction, and formally opened the dome in 1363 in a week-long festival. At this time the cathedral was dedicated not only to St Maurice as before, but also to Saint Catherine.

In 1360 the construction stopped again after the uncompleted parts have been covered provisionally. Only in 1477 did the construction start again under Archbishop Ernst von Sachsen, including the two towers. The towers were constructed by master builder Bastian Binder, the only master builder of the cathedral known by name. The construction of the cathedral was completed in 1520 with the placement of the ornamental cross on the north tower.

From majestic Bad Münstereifel I traveled about 21km to visit a historic site called the Kommern Open Air Museum to spend the afternoon, if interested I would allow for at least 4 hours to really get the feel for the place.

There is great parking after entering the first gate to enter the museum grounds and would seem to hold several thousand cars and assorted buses, this is followed by a short walk to reach the main pavilion to purchase entrance tickets.

The park is one of the largest outdoor museums in Europe at 100 Hectares and is home to over 69 different buildings from the former Prussian RheinProvinz all transplanted to this location and broken down into five sub regions.

The goal of the museum is to present rural life in the 15th century in an easily accessible manner that is fun for a family outing, do bring good shoes as 100 hectares takes some walking to cover as history is brought to life for the viewer.

I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm 1/60, f/5.6 ISO 100 processed in LR, Topaz Denoise, PS (Lumenzia curves masks and DXO Nik Color Efex)

Santiago Island

The Galapagos

Ecuador

South America

We traveled between islands in the Galapagos on a private yacht called Queen of the Galapagos pictured here. Traveling would be done while we slept at night so when we woke up we were at our next destination. Sometimes the engines would be quite loud and the ship would pitch to one side or the other. This could be annoying, but still very worthwhile when you woke and realized you were actually traveling in the Galapagos. The islands are regulated to keep too many people from coming to each island and destroying the environment. So when someone books a trip there, you may be seeing different islands than expected because of the regulations. They vary each time you go. To be sure the wildlife on the islands is not disturbed, a government guide must travel the islands with you to let you know what can and cannot be done, and to make sure nothing happens to you while visiting. .
