Le Suquet is the oldest neighborhood of Cannes. It has cobblestone streets big enough only for people and few cars so it’s a nice area of Cannes to wander through and get yourself lost along the winding streets. Many of the streets are actually narrow staircases only. It was originally a Roman settlement located above the city on Mont Chevalier and it overlooked the bay. While walking through the neighborhood you will get a feel for what Cannes was like in the 18th and 19th centuries.

As you walk along the road don't forget to look up to see the Alhambra, which sits on top of the hill right across the river. During the Albaicín heyday, this Moorish community had a large number of Mosques located throughout the neighborhood, but during the Christian reconquest in 1492, the Muslim population decreased as practising Muslims were forced to leave by the Spanish Monarchs. Many of the mosques located within the Albaicín were destroyed and replaced by churches. This is the Church of San Nicolás located in the Moorish district of Granada, Spain.
