Qutb from another perspective ~~~

Qutb-Minar in red and buff sandstone is the highest tower in India. It has a diameter of 14.32 m at the base and about 2.75 m on the top with a height of 72.5 m.

Qutbu'd-Din Aibak laid the foundation of Minar in AD 1199 for the use of the mu'azzin (crier) to give calls for prayer and raised the first storey, to which were added three more storeys by his successor and son-in-law, Shamsu'd-Din Iltutmish (AD 1211-36). All the storeys are surrounded by a projected balcony encircling the minar and supported by stone brackets, which are decorated with honey-comb design, more conspicuously in the first storey. It’s main tourist attraction is the Monastery and Royal Site. It's located northwest of Madrid at the base of the Guadarrama Mountain Range (Sierra de Guadarrama). San Lorenzo is a beautiful and picturesque town, which didn’t exist and wasn’t developed until after the monastery was built. It functioned as a retreat from the city of Madrid and as a royal hunting lodge.

Khardung La is a mountain pass in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The local pronunciation is "Khardong La" or "Khardzong La" but, as with most names in Ladakh, the romanised spelling varies. The pass on the Ladakh Range is north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys.

The Basilica of El Escorial has a magnificent alter to view and apparently quite a bit of the gold the Spanish brought back from the Americas ended up here in El Escorial. The basilica also has a dome designed after the dome at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The dome rises nearly 100m into the sky.

Le Suquet is the oldest neighborhood of Cannes. It has cobblestone streets big enough only for people and few cars so it’s a nice area of Cannes to wander through and get yourself lost along the winding streets. Many of the streets are actually narrow staircases only. It was originally a Roman settlement located above the city on Mont Chevalier and it overlooked the bay. While walking through the neighborhood you will get a feel for what Cannes was like in the 18th and 19th centuries.

While walking through the Albaicín, you will hear music, specifically flamenco and other traditional Spanish music echoing off the walls. This musician was playing their guitar in the Albaicín, under one of the gates of the city. During the Albaicín heyday, this Moorish community had a large number of Mosques located throughout the neighborhood, but during the Christian reconquest in 1492, the Muslim population decreased as practising Muslims were forced to leave by the Spanish Monarchs. Many of the mosques located within the Albaicín were destroyed and replaced by churches. This is the Church of San Nicolás located in the Moorish district of Granada, Spain.
