On this woven, smeared because of doing my training runs. That's really not nice. Sometimes you can only run with spikes shoes. But then comes a firmer underground, then you can not walk with the spikes shoes anymore. But the worst thing is this mud and dirt .... I'm looking forward to the spring when it gets warmer and the running tracks are more firm and dry.

Taken with a 400mm lens from the top of the Centenary building at the University of Tasmania - looking down to the football training below. I was getting some shots looking across the river and decided to be creative with some long exposure sports shots.

Heidi thinks it’s important to train your humans. Once you know how it‘s done it‘s fairly easy she says. You just need to let them know who‘s the boss and find out how to push their buttons. So if you think your human is lazy and the floors need cleaning, just pee on all your paws while in the litter box and then go tour the whole place. You’ll be surprised how fast your servants jump from their couch and start a thorough house cleaning.

Have a happy weekend everyone! I‘ll be doing some cleaning, I guess 😂

training shot with a bit of HDR and some new to me techniques in affinity photo. Not the best shot of the world yet, I'll see where this gets me.

I popped down Loch Eilt to a location where I could look across at the Fort William to Mallaig line. Quickly I saw I hadn't got the right day. I need the waters to be flat calm to get a nice reflection. And some nice light on the hills would help. The train, the Jacobite, was only slightly late but when it came, horror of horrors it was an old diesel relic pulling the train, and not a famous Black Five.........todays' train, no steam or smolke, definitely couldn't be called the Hogwart's Express. I tried imagining how many passengers would be disappointed the steam engine had been replaced with a diesel: it's just not the same.

So I had decided on a two frame stitched pano shot but that went wrong too! I seem to have cut off the end of the train in 'merging' the images. So with a steam train, streaming smoke and steam against the mountains, reflected on still waters it might have looked something, but...not today! At least I don't have to travel far for another try, but I can't predict what the conditions are like on the other side of the mountains from home!

At the foot of a mountain, a CP Train passes within metres of a restored, yet abandoned church. It is on private property so this shot is from the roadway across from the farmland. Timing the passing of the train was not too challenging, considering it was pulling a multitude of cars, and moving slowly.

This area is still plush and mostly farmland. It is late September and colours are beginning to change. The trees will not colour up like those of northern Ontario, where Maple Leaves adorn the forests. However, these colours have altered, and will continue to do so as Autumn approaches.

Training because I am constantly learning to take pictures, but this time I went further and did two poses to make this photo with the collaboration of my friend Mary.

The photo was inspired by one that my dear daughter Coco (+) took some years ago.

Before the seasonal Rocky Mountaineer trips between Denver and Moab, Utah, begin on April 16, the company is running three training/familiarization runs over the route. Today, March 28, 2023, the first training trip is shown returning to Denver at mile 14.5 on Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision. This location is just west of Leyden siding. RMRX engines 8020 and 8021 power the 10-car train. Photo by Joe McMillan, 3:27 p.m., 45 degrees.

A training session for firemen of the Richmond, Virginia area…

Here's another oldie from the archives and the caption I wrote when originally shared on RP:

This is odd looking little mixed train is used for student training out on the isolated and little used Ft. Richardson classification yard. The twin geeps are used to practice switching with newly hired brakeman, and the dome coach is used as a fancy taxi between the base trackage and ARRC's Anchorage Yard office. The lone flat car carries an emergency response command center container that is outfitted with refrigerators and a microwave and tables and other conveniences to provide a break room and lunch area for the trainers and students.

This view looks compass east on the base as GP38-2 2002 (ex BAP 109 blt. Nov. 1978) leads the little train around an s-curve on the Fort Rich yard lead enroute back to the ARR mainline at MP 119.8 just north of the Davis Hwy. crossing. The tan buildings in the background is home to D Company, Anti-Terrorism Battalion, 4th Marine Division, and comprises the sole Marine Corps mission unit stationed in Alaska.

There's not a lot that can stop a dedicated runner on a bitterly cold, frozen February morning in the North East of England. I'm surprised the bloke's got leggings on, mind - didn't think it was that cold.
